Hand Eczema and iPhones

I don't have hand eczema anymore, but had it bad on my hands when I was a child. Years of cortisone creams have made my fingertip skin sort of thick and dry. I find that when I try to use touch screens on iphone or ipad, it doesn't always recognize that I am touching it. Has anyone else experienced this? I opted for the Blackberry instead because it was just too frustrating.
