No - what is shirai borage therapy lotion and shea butter? Has ti helped? My daughter has terrible eczema it comes and goes weekly. I feel like i've tried everything and can't find anything that consistently works - even the steroids don't help at times.

My son who is 3 year old is also sufferinf from severe eczema. He has it on his face, buttocks, genitals, inner thighs, behind the knees, neck lines, etc. Severe itching, frequent urination(no urinary infected as per lab report), severe sleep disturbance is also noticed. I am having a history of nickel allergy, resulting in eczema on my hands and face. I am not able to figure our what is causing the sudden flare up in my son - Is it nickel(lots in chocolate), chlorine, hard water(I saw recent reports pointing some light on this), formaldehyde present in cotton fabrics(my sister is allergic to this)? I am trying emollients, avoiding soap, try to soften water. Please help me with any info that will make my son's eczema better that mine. I cannot stand his pain.

My 3 year old grandson has had severe ezcema since birth. Suggestions tp start with:

Have your son tested for food (milk, soy, tree nut, wheat, fish and shellfish, peanuts, eggs) and environmental allergies (like dust mites, trees, and grasses) RIGHT AWAY. Eliminate them from his diet in the meantime.

Change your family's detergent to a free and clear product, with no bleach or fabric softener.(We use All free and clear)

Read food labels religiously.

Start doing massive research!

Contact me at icountitalljoy@Hotmail.com for lots more info. I wish you much success.

My 3 year old son has eczema that has gradually gotten worse. When he was 1 it was a small spot on his elbow. Last year it was both elbows. But this year it is worse. Its on his butt, back, elbows and slightly on his stomach. It is seasonal with him. No problems in the summer. He HATES lotion. He says it hurts. I go sparingly on his baths. He gets a bath every 2-3 nights and I just clean him up in the mean time. I don't want him to get even dryer. My next step is to request a soap or something from a dermotoligist because he didn't like the creams. He had a burning sensation.

My son is almost 4 and suddenly has chronic eczema on his back, chest, now it has appeared on his genitals and thighs. I have been using a high quality Emu Oil with a jojoba oil and shea butter that has sandalwood and seems to help. I put it on before bed and in the morning. I do not know what the cause is? I breast -fed him for over 2 years and eats a diet of organic foods with minimul dairy products. I think I may try cod liver oil. ANy suggestions??

I also have been using natural fragrance free laundry soap for years. So I do not elive this to be the cause. I do not think there is anything I have been doing that is different that would cause this, but it is possible. He did not have any problems as an infant. He has once before a year or so ago has dry patches on his cheeks that was cured with California Baby Calendula cream. Has anyone else had this problem with their child-sudden flare up of chronic eczema?

I agree with Joy, the first thing to do is try to get your child tested if it's food allergies.

I also found California Baby Calendula Cream & Weleda Baby Calendula Cream very helpful.

Please do not try anything funky on your child. I have been through the ringer with mine- he is 8 now and we have done everything. Try a ceram called Cerave or Vanicream. We also do not use regular soap we use something called Free and Clear. www.nationalallergy.com

Also, please check the soaps. Everything contains Cocamidopropyl betaine- a derivitive of coconut oil...found out that was irritating my sons skin..it is in shampoo-baby shampoo, soap, handsoap, and lotion....we use Neutrogena for sunscreen. People with eczema will find that they respond well to anything that has titanium dioxide in their sunscreen. You may want to cut out all citrus foods. You shoudl use a purifier in their room and if possible in everyroom. Get rid of the stuffed animals, carpets....dust is everywhere.

advice to all you parents with small children with eczema..do what wasnt done for me...instill lots of self confidence. raise them to relax, dont stress them out it makes it even worse (mines got worse once i started college and that was stressful put along with the rest of lifes crap) but prepare them for when they start school...that was the worst part of my life when it came to eczema..it goes from people thinking your diseased to eventually you get to highschool and people understand it, nevertheless are grossed out about it...heck it grosses me out and ive seen MUCH worse pictures online.as soon as they start school and start telling u that they are being teased it is sooo important that you teach your kid not to be ashamed over this curse, because itll just make it worse on their heart..believe me, i know..im so depressing i know..but unless you live the way we do you really wont understand. its like that book the scarlett letter...it just sucks that we cant be FREE without the stares questions and gawking...like this weekend i went to the beach by myself no friends or anything..it was a beautiful day and my skin was not on its worse day, but it felt good to just take off my shirt and expose my scars (from surgery as infant) and not clear skin and just not give a crap what anyone was thinking or looking. see around friends at the beach in that situation i wouldnt be comfortable and enjoying life..if i could go back to my elemntary days id tell whomever it was after some remark "screw you, your a jerk, you are a poor excuse for a human being" YEAH! TELL EM TO USE THAT...wish i wouldve said that EVERYTIME instead of having to explain myself and not them understanding since they are children! i probably would be an even bewtter strong person right now...ive let these petty problems run my life...it never gets better...to me its worse now that im in my twenties cuz its about the time you start finding a mate..and well frankly eczema isnt attractive..not to mention when your skin rubs against theirs it can compare to sandpaper! man i want a vaccine of some sort already for this..im so tired of dealing with it

Bless your heart!! I hear you. We are doing just that with our wee ones. What is great is that they are both exceling in areas they might not if not for the eczema. I would encourage you to find that passion, that something you love and do it FULL OUT!! That will help others to know that eczema is not a curse, but a hurdle to leap over. Thank you
