My eczema started 4 months ago at the side and inside of my upper arm. Then went down to my lower stomach and behind. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me Hydroxyzine and Desonide. Had these medications for a month and started to notice that it's getting worse when it appeared in both hands. It was a nightmare. I itched so bad even though I was taking hydroxyzine.

Went back to my doctor the 2nd time and he prescribed me Fluocinonide. He said this will help eradicate my hand eczema. Guess what, after 3 weeks it got worse and eczema was all over my both arms, chest and back. I was miserable. I had a big flareup and it was really bad. Went back to my doctor and asked him to refer me to a dermatologist. He refused to give me a referral because he said a dermatologist will just prescribe me the same medicine. He prescribed me a stronger dose of Hydroxyzine. Two days later things got really worse. My eczema is creeping through my neck on its way to my face. I was so depressed I don't know what to do.

Fortunately, I have a brother who's a physician in Michigan. I mentioned to him my medical problem and symptoms and he said that it seems like anti-histamine is not working in my case and that I should be getting steroid treatment. He suggested I go back to my doctor and insist on getting Solumedrol and Benadryl shots and get a Prednisone presciption. I went to Urgent Care and insisted I get these shots. The emergency doctor resisted due to the fact that there are many side effects to those shots but I insisted because it's my right to get good treatment. I told him I'll take the risk. They gave it to me finally. I've been taking Prednizone for 2 days and my eczema is subsiding. No more flare ups and it looks like it's disappearing. Hallelujah, I'm so relieved!!

If my brother didn't prescribe me those medications, probably my whole body will be covered with eczema. Trust me those medications worked big time. Please if you have eczema for months, talk to your doctor and suggest Solumedrol and Benadryl shots and Prednisone RX. If you are diabetic these medications won't work. Good luck to everyone.

Cortisone creams of all types thin the skin and cause wrinkles in a short amount of time, so be careful.

carol.. LISTEN CAREFULLY. what these doctors dont tell you is that prednizone is horrible to the immune system. its like putting a bandage on a deep wound. it merely supresses your immune system.. it does not solve the problem.
the only cure/solution to eczema is figuring out what is causing the reaction- food allergy or external factor, and then elimniating it.

I am extremely frustrated on behalf of my 17 yr old daughter. She has suffered from eczema her whole life. It has been at the point for the last year where her entire body is affected. Entire. She is seeing the best Doctor's we hope, anyway, and have tried two of serious meds, enbril and Imuran and another one that begins with C...Cl something. All which have the threat of cancer. Has anyone have anything else they can add, Has anyone gone to Israel or tried Dead Sea products? More importantly is there a support group for teens especially suffering from eczema?

I am so tired of seeing so many people keep trying different medicines and creams. This stuff only treats symptoms and once you stop taking them boom the eczema is back.

Like a lot have already said, most of these meds and cream are not even good for you.

I cured my eczema through something I found online but don't want to sound like I am promoting it. I have no affiliation whatsoever.

For the sake of helping someone I will post the link and if it looks like forum spam i am sorry as it is not.

www.BeatEczema.com is the name of the site and i tried it about 5 months ago. It took about 3 weeks to see results but now everything is completely gone.

Prednizone is deadly stuff. I was given Prednizone after my Chrohn's surgery. It caused suicidal depression. My surgeon said she knew it has such effects and can surpress the immune system but she said I needed it at the time. I told her I was having strange thoughts etc. She immediately told me it was from the Prednizone. It took about a year of hell to recover from the depression. I caution one to first research this drug.

Hi,

Just to let you know I have had severe eczema in my life combined with anaphalaxis allergies etc, so I know what I am talking ablout.

If you have a severe flare up of eczema then yes, steroids will quite quickly heal the skin and sometimes it may even be necessary to have an antibiotic if the skin is infected. However, this should ONLY be used to clear up the initial bout and from there on in, preventative measures must be implemented.

You can take allergy tests for food, household substances etc to determine where you allergies are coming from.

Keep a diary of the food you eat and when you become itchy or a rash appears.

With eczema, it is such an isideous disease that you really have to stay one step ahead.

I am not a doctor but any time I have gone to the doctor in the past they are at a loss as to what to do apart fom prescribe steroids which is by no means a medicine that can be taken on-going. That is not their fault there simply has not been enough research or because there just isn't a "cure". Most people that get it under control , have had it long enough to know what works and what doesn't.

A great resource to help you with some of the above methods that I have mentioned is http://www.remedyforeczemablog.com
There are many articles about varying aspects of eczema and how you can treat it - naturally.

Two things that I also recommend are primrose oil (capsule form) and seasalt baths (the salt also helps if there is any infection.

All the very best.

i had very serious eczema so my doctor recommended a natural oil that contained omega 3.he said it would help because my eczema was caused from eating foods that had additives and preservatives.it was a sort of tablet that had the omega 3.i took it for some time and WOW my skin went back to normal although i had to stop eating the foods but i'm happy it's gone.it does help but make sure your not allergic to it.try to also stop scratching! even though it's hard.

I have been suffering from eczema for over 20 yrs. The only thing that has helped is going to a chiropractor that offers a nutrtional plan.

So, I have had eczema throughout my life over 40 yrs on various parts of my body and have NO IDEA what causes it, what precipitates the outbreaks, anything. No doctor can tell me. It comes out of nowhere and may not reappear for years. But, all I know is that steroids seem to be the only stuff that gets rid of the problem. I have not found a natural solution that causes healing. So there you are.......I'll use prednisone because it works.
