I was first diagnosed with diverticulitis in August 07. Had about four days of severe pain and one day of low grade fever. 10 days of metro/flagyl and still mild occasional pain...Dr ordered CT Scan and showed mild diverticulosis. Another 10 days of meds and pain was almost gone. Well this on and off mild pain has lingered; I can go for days with/without the pain. So back to the Dr and a colonscopy. It revealed diverticulitis with infection. Dr says the infection never really went away? Is this possible? Can I carry this infection without it getting any worse for six months? Anyone else experience this?

Thanks

David

Sorry, should have clarified I just had the colonoscopy today (1/28/08). I almost didn't go back to the doctor because the pain is so mild. The doctor had to really push before I even felt some discomfort. And even then I wasn't sure I felt pain. I was awake for the colonoscopy and didn't feel much pain then either. Oh well, hopeflly this course of meds will get rid of this. I just hope it is something that will go away. Good luck yo everyone suffering with this terrible disease.

I guess once you have diverticulosis you can get diverticulitius at any time. I had 3 attacks over the past year and meds always ended the initial symtoms, but I still feel some discomfort on my left side, mild though it may be, so I'm not sure it ever goes completly away. I try to eat right, drink plenty of water and cranberry juice. So far
so good.

I had a slight flare up in December that started around the third. I took the drugs for a few weeks. The pain did not subside until about the 20th. I still get a very slight inflammatory pain mostly at night. Its after midnight here and I feel a tiny pain or sensation in my lower left side. It comes at night and then subsides by day much like my arthritis. Its almost imperceptable but it never goes away completely except during the day time.

I too had a mild attack around a month ago. Had reactions to all antibiotics except for doxycycline. Bad bouts of Diahrea still coupled with constipation. Slight Pain not bad but I can tell its there. Got double whammied with the flu now so Im miserable and depressed. About to cry again for the umpteenth time.Warm Baths seem to help with the backache. I sit in there so long I look like a prune when I come out. Only three diverticuli on the right descending colon. Sure alot of hulaballoo for three little sores!

I had 3 attacks in a year and finally been OK for 4 omnths. I started to take Probiotics and allot of cranberry juice and water. The more juices and water the better. Hope this can help you.

Even after you finish your meds after an attack it still takes your body a few more weeks. Be patient and dont eat to much fiber that will make you feel awful. Crabberry Juice works the best.
I have also been experimenting with Benefibre which is a fiber that does not bloat you. If you start feeling sick again get back to the docter.

Hi Robby, yes, I used to get very nauseaous and throw up during attacks, particularly in the latter ones before I had my surgery... it seemed that the pain was not as bad but I used to get very nauseous and my BP was extremely low. Hope that helps, Joy

Make sure you drink lots of water with the fiber. Fiber without water equals constipation.

Joe,

I just posted bout my one year anniversary after surgery. I had lap surgery in Bucks County, Pa. I had a surgeon that was in a test group of a new procedure where they use compression rings to close up the colon rather than staples. I was up and about in a day, best decision about incision I ever made.

I suffered with diver almost 20 years and risked dying from a rupture, now I am disease free.

Was diagnosed2 weeks ago after constant pain for three months and miss diagnosis due to me being only 27, very frustrated with doctors. Thanks for the posted messages makes feel a little normal.
Been on antibiotics for a week and still no improvment in pain and discomfort. trying not to eat to much and always eating plain food and veggies but any food seems to agravate my condition i am on my way to another doctor for second opinion on how to manage
