To those who have had the surgery....did your surgeons recommend a colonoscopy after 9 months to a year later? I had my surgery on Jan 7th and my Dr said she would like to do a colonoscopy in the fall.

Cinzia. I never had a follow up colonoscopy. Apparently the surgeons, decided that I was doing okay.

Cinzia. Yes, my surgeon said I would have a colonoscopy in about a year from my surgery last November. Another surgeon said it might be earlier than that. They said I am doing well but I think it's a routine procedure here. I had no problems with spreading, lymph nodes and connection was good. No bag. Blood tests every three months and follow up appt every six months. T3 N0 M0. Good luck...

Cinzia, I had a follow-up visit 6 months after surgery and on that visit, they scheduled a colonoscopy on the 3rd anniversary of my surgery. Nothing before then, unless something develops.

Hi. This is a confusing question, but here goes. I recently had a punch biopsy for spots all over my back which appeared after my stay in hospital for bowel surgery. This biopsy showed perivascular dermatitis with no dysplasia or malignancy. My question is whether this good result showing no malignancy could be reflected in a good CEA blood test reading which is due in a month. Or are the two tests completely unrelated? My reasoning is that if no malignancy was detected in one, then it is unlikely to show in the CEA test, or am I being over optimistic...

All I can say is "good luck, John!" The prognosis looks to be on the optimistic side.!

Here we go again! Dr said the 'abs' near the top of my scar was a hernia. He's not bothered, just keep an eye on it. I am bothered though, as it's not normal and is quite a bulge now. I would like to know what is actually pushing through and what to do about it. I think I'll have to talk to the Dr again. Bowel cancer, wound infection, spotty back, adhesions and now a hernia! But I feel ok...
Stay positive everyone!:)

I had my resection on the 18. I'm still in hospital and now have a very small contained leak..has anyone had this, they think it will resolve itself if not I have to have surgery again...has this happened to anyone and how did they fix it.

John: I have a hernia too, but it has not bulged through. My Dr also said to just leave it alone. You seem to have run the course with your surgery, but I am so happy you are doing so well. I feel you will continue to do so. You are an inspiration, with all you have gone through. I think your positive attitude works

Thanks to all, for the feedback, on post surgery colonoscopies. Will probably have one in the fall, if my surgeon still thinks it's necessary. I personally could pass on it.

I went back to my GI this Wednesday..... Still not having BM unless I take Laxative.... all the fiber did nothing but blow me UP!! He gave me a script for Linzess and we are going to do a Colonoscopy I have it scheduled for 4/30 but we are heading out on a cruise this weekend and when I get back going to see about moving the date up for the Scope. my GI is thinking I might have Scar Tissue issues at reconnect sites in my colon from my resection.

Anyone go thru Scar Tissue or Blockage of any sort? What did they do to fix it.

My fingers are crossed for NO Surgery, and can do something during colonoscopy to open it up.

Thanks

Ava. A few people have had scar tissue problems. If you could read back a few, hopefully you may find what they did.
randi. Too early, probably, it takes longer for some people too. I could not bear anything tight around my waist for a long time. still can't acutally, but it is not a problem, as there is no pain, now.
God bless.

I'm 13 mos. post op (full open for diver. 12 inches removed). I'm experiencing some pain in my lower pelvic/pubic region (almost as far low as you can go), kind of near the hip bone. It is mostly only tender to the touch, though there are some moments where I have flashes of pain in this area. The rest of my abdomen is fine, and I've been having regular bm's.

Any ideas?

Routine CEA test just done. Now the waiting. You can't help feeling nervous, even though it will PROBABLY be ok. Incisional hernia is a pest though. Might pay for a specialist to find out about it. 4/5 month wait if you use the public health, I.e. hospital. Had to cancel my private insurance as the premiums rocketed up when I reached 60. Just when you start to need it most! Maybe it's different in other countries.
