Hi LoriI'm at my wits end... I was under the impression my issues were normal! My surgery was in 2005. I have 6 inches of large intestines remaining. I was re-routed to prevent having a bag. I was in adults diapers for two years-again being told this was normal. I have yet to have solid stool since, and I have not been above 99lbs since 6months post-op. I went into surgery at 157 lbs looking full term to deliver a child. I literally have 10-15 BM's a day, and I have to run a couple of times if my husband and I go out for dinner. I think I will be finding a new doctor . Yes, this was an emergency life saving procedure for which I am thankful. Surely something can be done to help my situation. It is almost 2:00 AM here, and I am awake due to visiting John.. AKA the toilet- where I have spent most of my time for 8 and a half years.
If I were you, I would definitely seek the opinion of another colorectal specialist. My Dr told me I would lead a normal life within a year, and that the first 3 months are the worst. 8 and 1/2 years is a long time to deal with this. Maybe your situation is unique, and there were other issues when you had the surgery, but if you want some answers, go see another Dr. Let us know how you do.
