You can get aloe Vera at any health food store. If you don"t have one, you can buy it online. Lily of the Desert liquid aloe is also good, available online. I find it helpful.

I have never tried Aloe Vera, just for the other side, I have heard several people on here say that it bothered their stomachs, but that was not the pill form.

Don't try to quit cold turkey, for one month take the nexium 2 days followed by one day of prilosec, after one month go prilosec every other day, one month later go to straight prilosec. One month later go prilosec 2 days followed by zantac every third day. One month later go prilosec followed by zantac every other day. Finally go zantac every day and start tapering off with a careful alkaline diet.If you try to quit all at once you will never get off of the ppis.

Thanks to all that responded. My worry is that Aloe Vera will give you loose bowels...Lots of adds about it helping with reflux...just wondering if anyone here had any luck with it...My uneducated observations with Diver is that it is caused mostly by inflammation caused by stress, diet, and who knows what else...I thought maybe Aloe Vera might be a good anti-inflammatory drink...But, i will definitely give BILLS idea a try..Getting off of Nexium is a goal for me..I think itís starting to give me sore bones, and maybe causing Diarrhea...I hardly ever get it...but lately getting it more and more...

Badguts, I thought about aloe too. I've read a few posts in this forum that swear by it. My only issue is it looks like it can cause diarrhea. I already have bad diarrhea which is causing a lot of problems for me. I don't want to make it worse.

I think I'll stick with what I know and not experiment when I'm still trying to recover from an attack. When/if I'm better I'll probably try aloe to see helps my body reacts.

I am trying to get off Nexium also and my naturalist put me on aloe vera pills and dyclerated licorice chewables that I take 20 mins before meals. I've not had any diarrhea so far (been on it 2 weeks) but I have noticed that the constant pain I have diver is gone. Don't know if it will last but it seems so good not to have that nagging pain on my lower left side. I am taking nexium every other day now and will soon try every 2 days...till I can get off..Both of my hips are sore and I am wondering now if it is from the Nexium. I've been on it every day for abut 4 years...on the advice of my gastro Dr. Nexium was intended as a 14 day tx only and the Drs are putting us on it for a lifetime!

Ann, is there a certain brand that's better. Where do you buy yours?

Aloe Vera juice is definitely worth a try- Aloe contains enzymes that can aid in digestion. It also lowers the acidity of the gastric juices found in the stomach and is a powerful anti-inflammatory. To limit the laxative effect, use the pure gel from the center of the leaf and not the green skin on theoutside. I found info on how to harvest the fresh gel from the leaf here: Hope it helps!

Have not tried aloe but I swear by DGL and the Canadian version of gaviscon for reflux. I am convinced that PPIs interfered with my intestinal system and brought in the diverticulitis

I tried it last year and it gave me terrible diarrhea and stomach cramps,

Be careful about which you buy and don't believe all the claims for it.

I think it might possibly help some people who are suffering DD because of constipation. But I have heard that it can make you dependent on it, just like any other laxative - probably helpful if taken occasionally.
