Does anyone have experience with CT guided drainage of an abscess?

Briefly, my husband has been in the hospital on IV antibiotics for five days after suffering for two years with misdiagnosed diverticulitis.

He was scheduled for a resection tomorrow but now his MD is recommending this draining procedure instead. I haven't spoken directly with his MD and won't be able to do so until tomorrow morning. My husband is receiving IV Dilaudid and is not the best source of information because basically, he can't remember much of anything for more than three minutes.

I have been searching for information as to effectiveness of this procedure but have found very little online and am hoping someone here has experience.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I would also like to say that anyone who is suffering from this horrible condition has my deep and sincere sympathy and I pray you find relief soon.

Hi Mrs. M,

Yes I have recent experience with CT guided abscess drainage. Its a piece of cake. The reason why the doctor doesn't want to operate at this stage of the game is that infection is a problem. The drainage doesn't hurt at all. They novacane your abdominal area, and you don't feel a thing, a pinch at one point.

However, because your husband had the abcess and after a few months of recovery, they are going to want to remove that diseased section of his colon. This is my experience in Jan 2010 and not it's May 2010 and I'm scheduled for the resection next week. It's best to have the resection done when infection isn't an issue to prevent having two surgeries, the 2nd to remove the cholosomy bag that will be needed in the first surgery, due to infection.

This has all been my most recent experience...Next Wed is surgery day, I got Xanax from my doctor because I've been freaking out...I feel good today.

Take care

Robin
