Hoping someone can share their experience or thoughts on this. Almost two weeks ago I had to leave my classroom(teacher) with extreme pain in the lower abdomen. I literally was in tears. I finally found relief after getting home and after some time of cramping and pain was able to use the restroom. Then, two days later, and zero bowel movements later, the same thing happened at school. I had to leave for home immediately! I had such a horrible pain in my left lower abdomen that I almost passed out in a stairwell. Got home, same routine as a couple days before, but for the next several days I was completely exhausted and freezing to death...it was 90 degrees outside! I was scared to eat and decided it was the lettuce and Snickers candy that messed me up. Wnet to the doctor on Tuesday morning, he had not too much to say, but when he touched the left side of my lower abdomen it about killed me. He ordered a CT scan, which I had yesterday. I will not know any results until Monday or Tuesday. He asked me had it happened before...and yes, off and on for years, but never this painful in this area. Now, all I can think is that I let whatever it is get out of control, since he mentioned diverticulitis, and the next words from his mouth will be..'see a surgeon'. Does anyone think this even sounds like diverticulitis? Oh, and he asked me if I still had my ovaries, which I do, so now I get to worry why he asked that, too.

Hello Michelle. Im sorry to hear of your problem. The pain of diverticular illness and flare up is extremely painfull and I think that most of us worry ourselves about it turning out to be something more serious. Are you going onto fluids for a few days? The hospital told me to go onto lots of water and fluids for three days when it flares up.Mine has been manageable for many years but gave me a nasty attack while on holiday recently and they want to do tests. The doc asked you about ovaries to rule out any infection there. Did he give you antibiotics? If he did, it takes a few days for them to take effect.

No, he did not give me any meds at all. He really had very little to say. I have been only taking in fluids for days with occasinal nibble of baked potato and yogurt. I am scared to eat!Hoping to hear something tomorrow from the test results. I will be surprised if they say there was nothing apparent on the CT Scan because I still have trouble going to restroom and abdomen starting to bloat some again, among other strange symptoms..beginning to think I am nuts and they scanned the part of me!

Hi Michelle, The ct scan should give you a definitive answer on if you have diverticulitis. Let us know how it goes. I encourage you to read some of the strings on this forum, there is a lot of useful information here. If it is diver and you have any specific questions feel free to ask away :-) Joy

They said they scan showed nothing, but put me on Cipro for seven days. He said if I have problems again then I need to see GI specialist. I feel better this weekend than the last few, but rarely eat at all. I am too scared I will have that pain again. I have lost about 15 pounds in 3 weeks or less. He didn't seem to be concerned about this either. Guess I will just live off the basics, eat yogurt daily and drink water to prevent another flare up of the mystery again.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Sagittarius

You're in a strange mood, Sagittarius. You're feeling impatient and cross, and nothing is quite right. No wonder, with Mercury and Mars retrograde, under a Full Moon lunar eclipse! But is it necessary to be quite so contrary, so determined to do the opposite of what's expected of you? Try to sort out the problem sooner rather than later, then do something energetic and therapeutic so you can burn off your nervous energy. Then you're all set for a great New Year's Eve!
