I just got out of the hospital yesterday after being in for 3 days of being diagnsed with Diver. I have been on mainly liquids and have eaten some yogurt, jello, and mashed potatos. I took 2 Advil PMs last night to sleep well and woke up around 5am drenched in sweat, i went to the bathroom, changed shirts, and went back to sleep for couple hours. When I woke up again my shirt was again drenched in sweat. Is this normail? Should I worry? I have not seen anything in these posts yet about sweating bouts during sleep. I'm a rookie Diver so this is all new to me and i'm very glad I have found this site. I'm scheduled for my follow up with my Doc next Friday and he wants to schedule the colonoscopy. Also everyone says to slowly up your fiber intake but when exactly would I start this (was diagnosed just this past Wednesday), and what are the measurements I would start with for fiber intake on a daily basis? Just need a little more detail sorry. I'm starting a new job on the 21st, how much will this get in the way of work life? Thanks for any input to you all! We will control this, it won't control us.

Brian-no fiber at least a week and then very very slowly start to add. Wouldnt worry much about the sweating-probably your bodys reaction to meds as well as you hopefully drinking more liquids. They will want to wait at least a few months before doing the colonoscopy to let it heal. How old are you and did they diagnosis it with a CT

I turn 32 on 4/29. I have very little appetite. I have been drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice (cran juice after reading this forum, thank God I found this site-it helps). I have had nothing but very watery diarrhea which worries me. I have a lot of rumblin-grumblin in the stomach area. I have eaten eggs, yogurt, cream-of-wheat, and a small mashed potatos only. Any suggestions on food besides what i have eaten? I'm kinda freaked out cause i'm supposed to start a new job on the 21st.

I get the night sweats when I take pain relivers...tylenol or asprin or ibuprofen. I probably would not worry about the sweating too much as it should go away when you arent on the meds.

Hi Brian,

So sorry you are going through this. I am 32 as well. I would think that you can probably go back to work. I was out of work for a week, and that seemed to do the trick. You can also eat things like grilled cheese sandwiches, bland waffles, soup, potato chips, pretzels, mac and cheese. I just tried to keep things bland. And eating smaller meals seems to help.

When I went back to work, I brought food with me. I found that eating out was a bit hard with all the restrictions, so I recommend brining some food along so that you are safe.

Good luck at your new job!

Night sweats are a sign of infection. I would assume the original poster was still on an antibiotic course at the time of the post. While on them you should begin probiotics to reestablish healthy bacterial flora in the gut--Lactobacillus & Bifobacterium & drink lots of water.
Never take NSAIDS (includes aspirin, ibuprofen)with a GI diagnosis. These will put you at risk for a GI bleed.
Once you have been given the ok to advance your diet, peel thin skinned fruits, peel cooked vegetables, avoid cruciferous, legumes, corn, seeds, nuts. Begin Benefiber (soluble fiber),lots of water. Avoid becoming constipated. Colace may be necessary to keep stools soft.

Hope this helps someone.

Brian,

The pain reliever like Advil will throw your internal thermostat off. I forget what it is called, but I read about it a few years ago. On top of that, it is not uncommon to run a fever with Diver, so don't worry about the night sweats.

I think if you make sure you take of yourself and get plenty of rest, you should be OK starting a new job on the 21st!

Best of luck to you!
