1) I was told to do the Dulcolax / Miralax prep. How awful does the Miralax part taste and what did you mix it with? I was told I could mix it with any clear beverage--Crystal Light, Gatorade, Soda, tea, water...

2) How long after you drink the Miralax do you have before the "cleansing" starts? Is it fast acting, like Senna?

3) If I'm unable to drink the whole 2 quarts of laxative, will I still have a good prep?

Thank you, Colonscopy Veterans, for your help/advice.

I am using the 4 tablets of dulcolax and then 2 hrs later 238 grams of miralax mixed with 64 oz of a clear gatorade. I have to drink an 8 oz glass every 10 minutes till gone. They want you to have the electrolytes so you dont get dehydrated. Hope this helps! Mine is on Monday.

Tanya, I'd love to hear how the Miralax in Gatorade tasted--specifically, what flavor did you choose, and how bad was it.

Thanks!

Yes fleet cleans you out alright,I live in Australia the doctors here are starting to recomend the fleet rather than the old method where you need to drink 2 litres of that salty stuff. The fleet works quickly usually around 15 minutes after drinking it. The best partis the taste there is none and u only need 500 mls of apple juice spread over 2 glasess I think it is great I will never go back to the old one check withyour doctor see what he says

Tanya, mine is July 28, so I have two weeks or so to worry about it! HA! BEST of luck to you, and I'll be checking in to see how the Miralax/Gatorade "cocktail" tastes!(The doctor **said** it was tasteless, but I'd rather hear it from other people!)

Thank you Tanya! I am so glad your colonscopy came out good. It is so scary to have something that may be wrong...and not know for sure.

Concerning the Miralax/Gatorade... I am glad to know the taste was NOT rancid rodent! LOL! However, you said you couldn't keep the first bottle down--does that mean you vomited, or that your "cleansing" began?

About how long after you started the "prep" did the cleansing actually begin?
Did the Dulcolax make you start, or did it start when you started the Miralax?

Sorry, I don't mean to ask a million questions, I'm just nervous about my own upcoming colonscopy.

Well I took the dulcolax at 3 and started the gatorade at 4. Got down the first bottle at 5ish and between 530-6 I felt really horrible and did vomit Sorry.. I talked to my mother in law and she had the same reaction but felt it was from the pills. So who knows... I did still get the bowel movements going by 6 and all was done by 8-9... That was only drinking one bottle. I did not end up doing the second one of course didnt tell them that but they still had a clear view.. lol Good luck with yours!!

Thanks Tanya, for sharing your experience w/me. I was curious as to how long it takes for things to "kick in."

I have had two friends say they did the Miralax for a couple of hours until their bowel movements were watery & clear....and then quit. Both of them did about 1/2 to 3/4 of the laxative that was suggested--and both had successful colonscopies. If that's all it takes, I wonder why we're tortured by having to drink so much?

Another friend also suggested eating very lightly for about 3 days before the procedure...no salad, raw vegetables, no meat... She said she ate things like pudding cups, pasta w/ parmesan cheese, jello jigglers, applesauce, baked potato (inside part only) etc. I think that would be helpful but we'll see what I do next week.

About 3 hrs after the dulcolax it started and I had half of the miralax as I only drank 1 32 oz bottle of gatorade. I had mixed both bottle in a pitcher then poored it back in the bottles. it didnt all fit so I drank what was in the pitcher and 1 full bottle. that was enough and about an hr after finishing it the bowel movements started. Good luck to you on yours!! Let us know how it went for you!!

There is also a "pill" you can swallow that is a camera. You strap on the transformer belt (the size of a small paperback) and swallow a camera. It transmits 2 pictures a second and then passes into the toilet and is flushed. Takes approx 8 hours to go from mouth to toilet. If you cant do a normal colonoscopy, ask your doctor about the camera.

My colonscopy went well. It is NOT the horrible procedure it's made out to be, thanks to being sedated. I did find out I have a real problem w/diverticulitis, but we'll see what the dr. recommends next week.

I want to thank everybody who posted their experiences & advice. It helped me feel more calm & informed.

I am undergoing the 4 Dulcolax/ 64 oz. Gatorade/238 g bottle Miralax prep as I type this. I began 45 minutes ago and have had over 24 oz. so far. No urge to poop yet. I have always hated Gatorade, but they must have done something different since my last experience many years ago. I am drinking the Orange G2 type. The doctors office specifically said that Orange was OK, and the label does not mention any type of dye. Amazingly, it doesn't taste bad - just pretty sweet; none of that salty taste I remember. The Miralax has no taste whatsoever. Do not know what type of reaction I will have or how long it will take to start to work. Also have no idea how long the emptying will take in total. The old prep used to take me 6 hours or so.

I recently had a camera test completed on my small intestine. I used the Miralax/ gatorade prep. I drank the solution according to the instructions my Doc gave me. I had very poor results. My small intestine was still full of poop so the camera took pictures of a very dark small intestine. I don't know what happened. He wants me to repeat the test. Next time as awful as it is I will use the older preps. At least I know they have worked before.

Did the 4 Dulcolax and 64 oz of Gatorade with the 238g of Miralax. The first 32 oz with the mixture were to be drank yesterday a couple hours after taking the Dulcolax.

It has done nothing. Nothing at all. Started this routine as directed yesterday afternoon. It is now 6:25AM on the day I am supposed to have the coloonoscopy. I am to drink the other 32 oz of Gatorade and Mirlax this morning.

I sure hope something happens, or it looks like I will cancelling the procedure.

Not happy right now.

Joe -

My instructions for the colon prep before the resection surgery was to take 4 Dulcolax tablets at 4 pm and then start drinking the 64 oz of Gatorade and 238g of Miralax mixture, every 15 to 20 minutes apart, at 6 pm -- and to continue drinking the mixture until it was gone that same night. I chose every 20 minutes, because 10 minutes was too soon when I drank the GoLytely mixture before my colonoscopy (vomited after the first 50 minutes or 48 oz). My bowels started moving at about 7:20 pm, I believe.

Hopefully, your prep (and colonoscopy) went fine this morning after you drank the remaining 64 oz.

Keep us updated and good luck to you!
