Firstly hello,

i was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and a fistula between my bowel and bladder, so i am prone to water infections, currently 5 weeks into one with no signs of it letting up, i feel run down all the time, lower hip/colon pain, and as you can imagine, i feel im bugging my GP (doctor) by ringing once a week to make another appointment, i know i shouldn't and i know i need there help but i just get packed off every time with antibiotics. but i think these days are long gone, i have a referral to see a socialist but its a short while away. i dont know where to turn next...

currently managing my pain with hot baths and showers, which also seems to stimulate the colon and make me want to go...

Sorry i just need to speak with someone that knows whats happening to me...

Good day Stephen, you are right to be worried and upset. Unfortunately, until surgery, antibiotics is the way to go. You should try probiotics to build up the good bacteria in your intestines, it'll help you with your fatigue, bloating...

Also, look around these posts. There are some men with the exact same issues as you. there is light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe our friend Joy can write to help you. She is veeeery smart !!!!

Hang in there

Natalie , Thanks, i have been back again this evening as me urine wasnt right looking, had an emergency appointment, and spoke with the on duty registrar and the on duty surgeon, which got me worried, but came away with 2 new tablets to try and resolve me,

metronidazole and co-amoxiclav. will see how i go on these, but at the minute just feel ill, very ill.

just had a burger king ice cream to cheer me up, bet that will work better than any meds.

Hi Stephen
I know how worried you must be, I am due for a resection in the next month. The tablets you are on now should do the job but if not go back to your doc (mine said he doesn't mind if I go every and see him every day)I am thankful for the NHS at times like these especially when you read other post from people who can't go to doc because they can't afford it. I was diagnosed last May and managed to ward off flare ups with antibiotics, then in January I was in hospital for 2 weeks with an abscess, again treated with antibiotics. I don't think people know how bad this disease is until they get it. Just make sure if you feel bad to go back to docs.

Hi Stephen, Sorry to hear about the extent of your problems. Diver is bad enough but also having a fistula must be terrible. You don't mention if you have been give the option of surgery, I would think that would be an option but perhaps they want to clear up the infection first. I hope that you are drinking LOTS of water. I did not have a fistula and I believe they are more common in men. Perhaps if you post with "need advice from anyone who had a fistula" or something you might get some hits from people who have had the same experience. Keep us informed on how it goes. I hope things start to improve for you. Unfortunately there are often side affects to the antibiotics which make you feel even worse. I agree with Natalie that you should take probiotics to help repopulate the colon and help with getting more regular bms! All the Best, Joy
