After surgery Help please.

My wife had surgery for diverticulitis, part of the stigmoid colon was removed. things seemed to be going to plan but after 3 months she suffered an incisional hernia. Further surgery was performed to repair things and all has healed as well as expected. The formation of psoriasis around the scar doesnt help, however the problem she has is that after eating she is often violently sick and in constant discomfort, she tries hard to maintain a good fibre intake but it is difficult for her to eat any quantity of food. Can anyone help with advice on how long the pain and swelling remains after surgery and does she have to try and maintain a liquid diet for the rest of her life?

I can say that what she must be experiencing is not normal. I had my sigmoid colon removed three months ago and everything is working fine. Since Spain must have great expertise in this area, as witnessed by the successful operation of Fidel Castro, I would advise consulting with the surgeon on what approach should be taken.

CAK,

I ate anything I wanted, but usually only bites of it. I did not over do the fiber, but I still drank lots of water.

I felt horrible after my rupture and was not in the mood for eating the first couple of weeks things change in your system when it is removed. I also hada stoma placed and a colostomy and I think that my intestine was toching my stomach some how. I had a reversal a month ago and I still dont feel like eating sometimes. I eat in small amounts and cut out carbinated drinks. I am drinking cranapple juice it seems to settle my stomach. and alot of canned fruit and cottage cheese. As long as you are going to the bathroom that is a good sighn because i was out 2 days after my surgery and ended up back in with a blockage. You do not want to go through that. I am eating meat now in small quantities. i month post colostomy reversal. I had rupureted aug 3. Im almost back to normal the hole where my stoma was is almost closed. It was a drain hole if you need any advice I have been through almost every situation with three surgeries and a blockage.

I ate a soft diet for about a week then increased fiber and like Patt a little at a time. Its six weeks and I am eating normaly with out probs I drink a lot of water and it seems to help with the bm's. One mistake I had 2 large bowls of ice cream last night and paid for it with a lot of gas and an urgent need to go.
