Bayer GLUCOFACTS Deluxe Version SCAM

Here's a little warning they tell you (as of 11/13/2012) from their site.
"Please Note: Java 7 Update 9 is NOT compatible with Glucofacts® Deluxe. If you have this version of Java, you nust first uninstall it from your computer, then install Java 7 Update 7 which is compatible with Glucofacts® Deluxe software. Please also turn off automatic updates for Java."
If you actually do the above your Glucofacts software will work, but all of your other software that is actually updated to work with the current version of Java will not work. So don't bother with the software or waste money on a their USB cable either. That means the software you use all the time will be messed up but the Glucofacts you use once ever thirty days will work.
Bayer obviously has dolts working for it.

When I encountered this Java incompatibility problem with Glucofacts, I recalled that the same problem occurred when Glucofacts Deluxe was first introduced. Apparently the software developer has problems keeping up with Java releases.
In both cases I simply reinstalled an earlier version of Java and was good to go. I did not have (nor have I ever had) problems with other problems working with slightly older Java releases. I suspect that your concerns are non-issues.

Please note that new java revision are often released because of security issues with the actual (old) revision. It is to some extent risky to run older java revision as already known security risks will be exposed.

Point well taken; it IS prudent to keep the latest version of anything installed. My concern in addressing the original issue was only to suggest that the incompatibility with the latest version of Java is a coding screw up, not evidence of a scam of any sort. For myself, I am not uncomfortable using an earlier Java release until Winglucofacts gets things sorted out.

Except for major version upgrades, shouldn't an application developer ensure that it works across minor version revisions? I can imagine an app requiring a minimum version of Java but requiring a downgrade seems archaic.
