Lilly - Viva Zyprexa: a "sick marketing mindset"
Connecticut has become the latest US state to sue Eli Lilly after claiming that the firm marketed the antipsychotic Zyprexa for unapproved off-label uses, and hid side effects such as weight gain and diabetes.

'VIVA ZYPREXA' was another sales acronym to push Zyprexa
In fact, a 2002 company internal memo specifically instructed its sales representatives not to discuss diabetes concerns with U.S. doctors, the newspaper reports. "We will NOT proactively address the diabetes concerns," the Times cites an internal Lilly memo as saying.
Zyprexa remains on the market in the United States and more than 80 other countries.
How does Zyprexa cause diabetes?
It has been "theorized" that Zyprexa causes diabetes by poisoning the pancreatic beta cells causing them to die off?(if this is true then it's really scary stuff)
On July 1, 2002, Duke University issued a Press Release about the most recent finding that links the new anti-psychotics to early onset diabetes. The team of researchers--Elizabeth A. Koller, M.D. from the FDA, and Murali Doraiswamy, M.D. from Duke-- analyzed FDA's adverse drug report database, MedWatch (which receives 10% of adverse drug reports). They identified 289 cases of diabetes in patients who had been prescribed olanzapine (a.k.a. Zyprexa), Eli Lilly's most profitable drug.
This I do know ...that at my local clinic the Doctors have stopped prescribing Zyprexa except as a temporary PRN for acute cases only.
WHY? for two reasons:
1) The reason they give it out at all is because it is a fine med where indicated for specific symptoms and does the job very well
2)They stopped it as daily maintenance because they believe in their own hearts that it is the worst offender over the other atypicals AND because their patients refuse to take it on account of all the bad Zyprexa PR

WHAT I KNOW FOR CERTAIN IS ZYPREXA CAUSED MY DIABETES, PANCREATITUS, HUGE WEIGHT GAIN, NEUROPATHY, AND A HOST OF OTHER HEALTH PROBLEMS. I KNOW THAT I HAVE SEEN MY HEALTH GO FROM GREAT TO 'SORRY WE HAVE DONE ALL WE CAN YOU NEED TO CALL IN THE FAMILY' BY THE DR. I KEPT FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE AND ALTHOUGH I WILL NEVER GET MY HEALTH BACK PEOPLE, DR'S, ANYONE READING THIS FORUM, IF YOU KNOW ANYONE BEING GIVEN ZYPREXA ASK THE DR TO PUT THEM ON SOMETHING DIFFERENT. ANYTHING BUT ZYPREXA. ZYPREXA IS DEATH. I AM DYING PROOF. IF YOU ARE NOT ENVOLVED IN THE LAWSUIT AGAINST ELI-LILY THEN SPREAD THE WORD. JUST ASK THAT THE MEDICATION BE CHANGED. ZYPREXA CAUSES ALOT MORE THAN THE FEW THINGS I LISTED AND I AM CERTAIN THAT ALL WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT BUT UNTIL IT DOES, HELP THE ONES WHO ARE ON ZYPREXA CHANGE TO SOMETHING ELSE. I THINK IN THE ZYPREXA CASE WAY TOO MUCH HAS BEEN 'SEALED', AND 'HUSHED' TO THE POINT WE ALL WILL DROP DEAD BEFORE ANYONE WILL NOTICE.

I took Klonopin and Paxil for 15 years to treat my anxiety disorder. I had to detox from the Klonopin this past spring. I got off the Klonopin and switched my Paxil to Lexapro (sex side effect issue). I am also a recovering alcoholic. My doctor did not want me on Benzo's anymore (says it increased alcohol cravings). I stayed on Lexapro only for 9 months, but my anxiety came back strong on just the Lexapro alone. I almost resorted to taking Xanax before I switched doctors. My new doc gave Zyprexa from http://z-olanzapine.com a chance. I am on my 7th day and I haven't felt this "normal" in 5 years. I take 5mgs at night and it has ended the "chatter" in my head, and removed my anxiety. Great medicine so far.
