I have been on avandia for 7 years after a heart transplant in 2000. I hope this is not true. This is down right scary. I'm goin to talking to my doctor right now. I don't beleive Dr. Cartney (GlaxoSmithKline). With billions of dollars on the line those folks will say anything to keep those billions coming in.

An alergy doctor killed my 18 year old daughter 20 years ago with an 'experimental' drug. I don't take half the medicine prescribed to me now, because there's not a doctor alive that I trust. They every one think they're the know all be all god of this earth. I took Avandia for type 2 diabetes and stopped on my own 2 months later. Sometimes you have to trust your own instincts...after all it's YOU'RE body. I despise doctors.

I have been on Avandia since it was first put on the market. In 2005, I developed a blod clot in my right coronary artery, causing me to have a heart attack. Could Avandia be to blame? Why is it that these studies are always after the fact? They warn people about buying drugs from Canada and Mexico because they may not be safe. What about the drugs purchased in the United States approved by the FDA? The truth is, that we cannot trust our government to make sure that the drugs being used in this country are safe. So what happens now? They pull it off the market and start a class action lawsuit? That really helps the ones who have died from heart attacks after taking Avandia.

Type 2 Diabetes is a growing problem. It is a dangerous desease , but can be eliminated by two hours of regular excercise or playing soccer in play ground

The information was available but ignored by the MdD's prescribing. This is not unusual, remember Rezulin? It was known that it was deadly but was not taken off the market until 2000,Britian withdrew it in 1997. It mortally damaged the liver. It was fast tracked by the FDA, they were complicit in the damage that it did. There was an expose in the newspapers and that probably caused it's removal. It is all about money, nothing to do with caring or health. The companies figure they can make a lot more bu keeping these dangerous drugs on the market VS. the loss by any legal actions.

My father died 2 years ago of liver failure when his doctor mixed Advandia with another popular diabetes drug. So I don't think much of it and the pharmaceutical companies pushing expensive drugs that don't have a lot of research behind them, especially on sick patients instead of just healthy volunteers.

Quick to jump on the band wagon. People with diabetes are already high risk for stroke, heart attack and blood clots. This study is not a new gold standard study but a metanalysis. It cannot answer the question at all. This is drug company wars for market share.
But commenter Choudouri spoke a book.

My husband was taking Avandia until he had two small heart attacks. The doctor changed his medication to Prandin after that and I wondered why. Now I know.

Here's a couple of questions, if 6 million people take the drug, how many people have died and for how long a period of time has the drug been used.
Seems like another "the sky is falling" story.

I stoped taking Avandia because I thought it was creating cramps, swelling and painful like symptons of viens bursting and leaving dark splotches in my legs.
Avandia was prescribed to me as a preventive, my blood sugar was and is fine. I am afraid of prescribed medicines now because I feel like it's in the best interest of the government, not me.

My husband took this drug for several years, he passed away in Jan. 2006. Now I wonder if it was the drug that gave him a heart attach? Should have different laws for passing a drug on to the public.

People, don't forget, the drug companies only make drugs to "treat" symptoms of illness! they are not interested in cures. If they concentrated on curing illness, it would put them out of business. The ONLY obligation they have is to their shareholders!

My opinion is that you should switch diabetes meds with the help of your doctor if he will cooperate and if not switch doctors. In some circles it is known that a low fat, low concentrate sweet diet high in vegetables, fruits, grains and 1/6th to 1/10 part nuts is helpful to eliminate diabetes altogether. For those who are obese they should have 1/10th part nuts for those who are skinny 1/6th part. Watch your sugar with a machine 4 times a day while you do this. Sunlight is known to lower sugar and exercise can lower sugar get some every day but no sunburns. Some say 6-10 glasses of water are needed every day this depends on factors such as weight, heat and exercise level. For health reasons stay away from Alchohol, most drugs, tobacco, coffee, tea and chemicals added to food. At least one doctor says diets should be 80% raw.(of course that includes some fruits but diabetics may need to limit these at first)Most refined, manufactured foods should be eliminated or at least very limited, their nutrients are less than whole foods and usually chemicals have been added. Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night and keep a regular pattern of sleep time eating time exercise time etc. Get lots of fresh air keeping windows open most of the time even in winter a little bit. Last but not least develop a good relationship with God he is the true healer of sick bodies study your Bible an hour a day with prayer first for his guidance.
