This is not a surprise, as many of the diets of Caribs,South Asians and Africans, have starchy heavy foods, or sweet foods which are eaten eveyday by some... Then there are some who eat greasy western foods, rather than some of the healthier options of their ethnic group.. Not all ethnic foods are bad.. Exercise might be a factor, as well as age.. Most of those groups develop diabetes in later life.. Before anyone says anything derogatory, white people get diabetes a lot too.. As well as other groups..

I expect this is all whitey's fault again. I suppose "healthy ethnic foods" like "bush meat", monkeys, and illegal "unfit" meats are better than our disgusting food cooked under legally-regulated hygienic conditions .

Yup. Just not as much as blacks.

Asians are twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes than whites, while blacks are three times more likely.

Poor diet, too many carbs and not enough exercise is the problem.

I think high taxes on fried chicken outlets should be enforced.

Some of the female Asian members of the community are not allowed to stray far from home, and spend most of their lives in the kitchen.
They should be warned their culture could ultimately be a danger to their health.

Different ethnic groups have developped different metabolisms over time in relatively to the kind of food readily available in their area.. problem is that over the last century diets have evolved too rapidly for these people's bodies to adapt. Pima Indians had gone with very little food for centuries and Western diets are litterally killing them. I suppose taht what is true for them would be true for others.

Diabetes is higher in certain ethnic groups purely because there is a genetic link and certain ethnicities are more likely to have the gene. It's the same as breast cancer running in families.

Once you have the gene you have to be really careful with diet and lifestyle to avoid diabetes as you have a far higher chance of developing it. If you don't realise you have the gene you aren't likely to do this.

Its true what you've said, but it isnt just the chicken outlets that need sanctioning... Chocolate, crisps, and other high fat foods need to be considered.. Maybe its to do with industrialisation too.. In places without mechanical items to do the work for them, people were more active.. Since industrialisation, people have become less fit since then.. Theres a link somewhere..

Genes play a small part... It is more to do with diet for some or MEDICATION... STEROIDS that doctors put people on for lung problems/asthma can cause people to be ill in the long term... My mother developed diabetes after being given them too many times(Apparantly!) for breathing problems.. Someone else I know had similar thing happen to them!! Also take into account CERTAIN ILLNESSES that people can develop diabetes as a symptom... Illnesses such as Overactive/Underactive Thyroid disease, Addisons Disease,Pituaritry Disease,Cushings Disease,Coeliac Disease etc.. Check it out for yourself!
