More than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults each year - about 80 people per day - are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the U.S. Days after Ansley Hawkins led a group of friends and family on a walk against diabetes, a white sign announcing Team Sugar Kids still sat in her family's Powder Springs, Ga., living room.

Judged: 1 1 They all play sports, swim and have things to do that keep them busy. You have to lead by example and show your kids that if they want to be healthy you as well need to have those good habits as well. |

I totally agree with that! Parents need to actually be parents. Definitely too lax these days when it comes to their kids!

Judged: 1 1 I'm offended that you would blame parents for kids being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I have friends that have 1 to 3 year olds being diagnosed with type 1, was that because the kids were eating junk food, or eating unhealthy? No. There isn't even a consensus of what causes type 1 diabetes. Is it genetics, viral? No one knows. BTW, congratulations on your kids not being type 1, but that might change tomorrow, so you might want to knock on some wood tonight. |

Sorry about that Jeff, I wasn't talking about Type 1 diabetes at all, I was speaking about the number of children being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I should of clarified that in my comment.

I assumed NursingMommy was talking about Type 2 diabetes too, I know Type 1 isn't based on eating junk food at all.

Judged: 1 Sorry, the largest part of the article talks about Type 1 diagnoses in children, and then goes into the differences of the types. It has a small blurb of children with type 2, which is what it should be because children with type 2 is still a minute %. If your child has been diagnosed with type 2 you should probably have CPS called on you, as it doesn't take much activity to keep your child under a BMI of 40. |
