My now 20 year old son has taken singular in the past (during the ages of 15-18) for asthma and allergies. I actually discontinued his singular on his third round of the medication due to the mood swings and depression. I had noticed whenever he was on singular
he became a different person.

In 2005 my son had briefly taken Singulair for allergies. During that time, he was acting out in very inappropriate ways and I had been called to school twice due to his behavior. At the time, we couldn't understand where this "out of character" behavior came from. The type of behavior he was exhibiting stopped and has not shown itself again. We chalked it up to maturity, however, I'm now beginning to put two and two together and the behavior seems to coincide with the taking of this drug. It ended once the drug was removed from his system. It may be coincidental but I don't think it was.

i am now 15. ive been taking singular since right before i turned 14 when i began high school. i was and curently still am taking it for my asthma and allergies.
i hadnt noticed when i started being strange. i had changed b4 i knew what had happened. i just knew i was not always like this, that. id suddenly find myself very sad or scared or angry. i thought of suicide too.
that was last year, ive been better since then. alot better.
then i heard about this "possible link" and to b frank its frightning...

the FDA approves of many nasty things. They criminalize speed, yet they gave Ritalin to kids. A lot of people are switching to herbal medicines, sometimes with better results. True, sometimes herbal medicine can be just as deadly, but at least it is in the hands of the people and not the government.

My name is Candyce Donovan and I am a healthy 38 year old ---healthy except for an occasional cold or sinus infection. A few years ago I was put on the drug Singulair to help cure an allergy type infection. I was only on it for a few weeks and discontinued it myself because it was making me worse. Earlier last year, I went to a different doctor for the same type of thing and was put on the drug again. At time while on the drug I had a few "episodes" where my body was shaking while I was sleeping and I thought I was just having a bad dream. Then in August of 2007, I experienced 2 grand mal seizures while sleeping, and was in the hopsital for 2 days. I had numerous tests done and things like a brain tumor etc were ruled out, and it was the conclusion of the ER doctors that my seizures were brought on by a very bad case of sinusitis as that was the only thing that showed up on my tests. At that time my sister brought in the medication that I was on at the time...the Singulair...and the doctors said that that would not cause seizures. The Neurologist that I went to disagreed with the sinustis causing my seizures and said that we would never find a cause. I continued on the drug until early December , having another seizure in November. I have now since November, moved in with my sister for the 6 months or more that I have been with out my license as in NY state one cannot drive for 6 months after having a seizure....you have to be totally seizure free for those 6 months, and it was the advice of the doctors to not stay alone. I went to see another Neurologist who again said that there would never be a known cause for the seizures, and in fact he diagnosed me with having epilespy/seizrue disorder....up until August I had never had a seizure. An uncle of mine had seizures when he was a baby that lasted until his teens but the Neurologist stated that he didnt think that was passed on to me. With the recent findings with the Singulair drug that are on the website now...I am finding that I have had many of the side effects and I believe this was the cause of my seizures. As now some of the new side effects are seizures, convulsions and fits as well as a severe case of sinusitis. I have sent this information to my Neurologist but have heard anything yet.

Gina I completely agree with you my 9 year old has been taking Singular for about a year and a half, and he has been, aggressive, depressed, grades dropping, has no interest in things he used to love talks about killing self and wants to hurt his little sister if she looks at him sideways. He is almost addicted to this drug.I ran out and he cried. My heart is breaking because the way this drug is making him behave makes me not want to be around him. He has been so bad that I have told him I am going to send him for a visit to the Juvenile hall to see how the bad kids live. When all along it has been this drug. I am waiting for a call as we speak from his doctor and counselor as I write. Good luck and God bless everyone who has been unknowingly been going through what our family has. My 13 yr. old son takes singulair for his allergies (seasonal), within the last two weeks, with the change of weather, I have been insisting he takes it everyday. I now read all the comments from other viewers and cringe, I thought the sudden mood swings were due to his age, and I have noticed that he twitches within the first moments of sleep. I will be calling his doctor this morning, and discontinuing today! I have called the pharmasist and she has recommended different perscriptions to inquiry about. I hope the FDA takes note of all concerns!

We started seeing alot of aggression and defiance in him so thought like everyone else it was age, then he was put on meds for it. Well now I am wondering if the singular is the cause of this problem, he also was diagnosed with tourettes last yr, is that possibly a symptom? I pulled him off it this am and called his dr to tell him why, dr was completely supportive. I am outraged if this is the reason these things are happening to my son. Hopefully the FDA takes notice!

My Child has been taken Singular for years,and i noticed that for sometime he seems to be another person.
My sons mood changes so often he seems depressed and very angry always in trouble in school no one knew what to do.HELP PLEASE.
I never SINGULAR was the problem.

My son has asthma and allergies and has been taking Singulair since he was three years old. He started having seizures in his sleep that lasted for 1 minute. He would wake with his face twitching, drooling, could not speak and shaking all over his body. The Neurologist diagnosed it as Benign Rolandic Seizures and told us that he would probably grow out of it. I stopped the Singulair because it seemed that he was having more and more ear infections, sinus infections and alergy symptoms, so I thought the Singulair was not doing any good. Since stopping last year, it has been almost a year and he has not had a seizure that we are aware of in his sleep. I am wondering now with all the controversy about Singulair if this was the cause of his seizures?

I was tking samples of Singulair on a trial basis, provided by my physicians' office. The first and second night I had horrific nightmares. During the three to four days that I continued to take it I was extremely agitated and felt like I could easily jump from a bridge.
I asked myself what was different in my life. My only answer was the drug Singulair. I still had the warning insert that came with the samples. The occurance of bad dreams was listed as well as anxiety/agitation.
I stopped taking the drug immediately and felt fine within two days.

I had my 11 year old daughter and 9 year old son on Singular and immediately stopped when I saw the news report. I had 2 calls from my daughters teacher, poor report card, and a visit with the principal all that month and eveyone was saying, "that is not like her". She would just sit there and cry saying "I don't know" to every question. I do thank God I did see the report. My daughter went for 70's to 100's within the week and she is back to joking around. My son was not as depressed as his sister however his grades has also climbed. I feel bad for the years I did have them on it. I have not repalced the medication yet because I am too fearful. I am surprised at the small amount of people who have stopped the drug. They need to read more comments like this one.

My 10 year old has been on Singulair since he was about 3. He also was recently diagnosed with Tourette's. He is also has a fairly negative outlook and is quite stubborn. Getting to sleep is also a big issue for him. After hearing about the possibility of mood problems associated with sing. use, we kind of wondered if this may be at the root of his mood issues. We didn't think about any connection to Tourette's. He'd been on it so long, that this is all we've known of him, really. So, it was hard to blame a drug. We took him off the singulair this summer and his tics seemed to subside. Then, this fall he had terrible allergy troubles, and I worried for his asthma. I tried increasing the frequency of his allergy shots, but to no avail. Finally, I tried the sing. again recently. He developed the worst facial tics! They were more severe than I'd seen. There seemed to be an association with the singulair use. But, he'd also returned to school and may have been stressed with the new year. At any rate, I took him off of the sing. completely. The tics are gone for now. We will see what happens. If you are dealing with Tourette's and your child is on singulair, I'd like to hear from you.
