depression has changed my life so much. its this unspoken thing that follows me everywhere. but no one wants to talk about it. it drives me nuts if i bring it up at all in my house or around my family they just turn their heads away. i just dont get it. arent they suppose to be helping instead of turning away. anyone have some light to help me shine on this problem

You are right they should be supporting you. Maybe they are finding it difficult to deal with so they are pushing it aside. Many people with depression will feel extremely misunderstood and alone. Try sitting them down and talking to them about how you feel. Have you got in to anything such as Counselling? Do you not have any friends you could talk to? I know talking to friends can be difficult as they are not depressed therefore will not understand it very well. Although I'm sure they can be supportive and sensitive towards you.

Understanding your spouse or partner is affected by your depression is important. Depression affects us and people we love. Shame in having depression is an enemy to overcomming and managing depression and it's symptoms.
This article helped me (below); I have experience Postnatal and relationship depression with relapses under stress and a residual effect to verbal abuse as a child giving depression a strong base to fester. I have volunteered at a postnatal support group for two years as a facillitator. My gift back was to try and show some women there is hope and share what I know. I am a mother and a Uni student at present.=] Councilling helps and surfing web for good advice and forums and talking to your GP if they are good... good luck. The book men are from mars and women from venus can help you understand how male partners react to their partner and how they offer support in a different way to what women see as caring often....Spouses can sometimes even feel depressed themselves... cheers take care..

I've been on Effexor from http://goo.gl/kHgRdx only one week but am cautiously very optimistic. Prior to this I was on citalopram but still feeling very low and sleeping poorly, feeling like I needed to be in bed 12-16 hours a day. Now I am waking naturally after only 8 hours sleep and finding it much easier to concentrate at work. I can hardly believe it is working so quickly but I feel so much better. I've had no side effects.
