Are there any safe drugs out there to cure acne? C'mon if we can send a man to the moon we can invent a safe and effective product for acne! I have had acne for years, but after i hear all of those nasty side effects i start to realize that maybe acne isn't that bad after all. It sure beats having suicidal thoughts or severe liver problems! So if anyone has acne like me- just live with it! Alot of prayer helps too....ask Jesus to heal your acne and it might just happen. God bless you!!!!!!!!

I am only on my second day of acutance; I have been trying to get on it for almost 4 years now. No doctor would put me on it and I cannot say that my acne is that bad but I hate having the little breakouts that I am having now. I don’t think that taking this medicine is the best decision for me but I cannot help but want it, we will see what happens.

I've been struggling with thoughts of suicide for almost ten years now ever since my mother passed away and I am educated enough to know that this is not a good drug but I cant work up the courage to get off the drug. I do not have insurance and this drug is costing me close to 700 a month with lab work and doctors appointments.

hi guys I was on accutane 100 back 5 years ago it worked great and clear up my acne i had some crazy size zits. But i was a idiot and went on steriods to gain some muscle mass b/c i had a very high metabolism and would only stay skinny. Well it made me pop more zits afterwards. Anyways i'm now on it again taking 80mg a day my skin is getting extra dried and chap lips. Which is normal but i also noticed that i have a shorter attention span and I day dream lots and have ppl honk at me while driving or calling me a a$$ for not letting them in. My concentration seems more brooken. I am only on my 5th day but my zits are 70% gone already. So if you wanna get on it you maybe lucky with not much side effects but it can be very bad. Do you like to gamble?

I've been on Accutane about 5 months now. In the first couple weeks you'll convince yourself you won't get any of the symptoms, but slowly and surely they'll come. First it was the dry skin, then it was the chapped lips, then your skin starts to itch and gets rashes (which has since gone away), then you occasionally get stomach aches after taking the pill, and you notice your hair line has receded a bit. Oddly, I had the symptom of decreased night vision but never had a nose bleed. Anyway, my point is that chances are you'll suffer from most of the symptoms at one time or another, if only for a short period of time. Most of them go away if you go off the pill for even a day or two. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it. For me, I have no problem with temporary side effects, what worries me is the possibility of long lasting or permanent side effects, and documentation about the length the side effects last is hard to find.

I'm starting my 3rd month and the only side effects I've noticed is dry irritated skin where it is exposed to sun and very dry lips. Still getting a breakout now and then but looking better. I'm 34 and on 40mg twice per day.

I started off on 30mg for the first month, during this time my acne cleared up a lot. I experienced MAD chapped lips if I didn't apply lipchap every hour. My skin on my face, arms, and legs dried out a bit, but nothing that couldn't be solved by some moisturizer. For my second month, my dosage was doubled to 60mg and after a week in my acne started to get worse. I started getting mild nose bleds and the inside of my nose was very raw. My knees get really sore, especially while walking. I unfortunately experienced retal bleeding which still is very uncomforable. I also got rashes up my arms. I haven't noticed any improvments yet, but I'm only on my second month, I cannot say whether it has been benefitial to me or not.

I've been off Accutane for 1 weeks now. I was on it for 5 months. All my acne is gone now, and I am so much happier. I have some red scars still but over time i'm hoping it will heal. I had very dry lips, the inside of my noes got so dry that it cracked and has a scab (pretty grose) but its healing now that im off accutane. I also had very dry hair and got dandruff, so I cut my hair and applied castroil hair treatment. Other than that everything else was great. I'd say the worst is the dry lips I had to apply vasline every 15minutes.. and still do! Good luck to all !

I just got off Accutane a week ago and my lips chapped on the 3rd week. You are also not supposed to be using anything that will dry your face out. My dermatologist said to MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, and MOISTURIZE. Accutane works on your mucous membranes so you should stop using Proactive and anything w/ Benzoyl Peroxide. Good luck!

Hi Greg, did you have chapped lips and dry skin though? I'm on day 11 and I don't have any definate side effects of any kind. It's 20 degrees outside, i'm 170 lbs on accutane 100 mg/kg/day, and I'm still using proactiv, and I don't have dry skin yet or bad chapped lips yet. My lips are semi-chapped, but it's winter here so they would be anyway. I know it's only day 11, but almost everyone else of this forum had dry skin and bad chapped lips at day 4! and I'm still using benzoyl peroxide twice a day! Maybe I'm one of the lucky one that doesn't have any side effects, but it's making me worry it's not working right. What was your experience with the more common side effects?

Hi Maria! I'm not sure if your DR. discussed this w/ you, but Accutane does cause DEPRESSION, so suicidal thoughts could be intensified from the Accutane. I hope that helps!

yes, the depression is really linked with with accutane. I am taking it for 8 months and it is really a very terrible drug. my brain is not functioning so well unlike before using the drug. I have difficulties in concentration, memorizing stuff and more. it seems that i am drunk whole day. I will not recommend this drug. it is a VERY DANGEROUS DRUG!!!

Before I went on accutane, I was depressed. This was because the acne CAUSED me to become depressed.

Accutane gave me hope and thus improved my depression.

I discovered the more you think and concern yourself about your acne, the more depressed you will be.

I took Accutane for 5 months, I finished one month ago. I am so happy with my skin!
Here are some of my experiences with Accutane.
My lips were very dry the entire time but now they are back to normal. I used extra moisturizer for the first two months because my face was a little dry. Don't forget sunscreen! Still have some lower back pain. No hair loss or depression, I was very tired all the time though.

Recently I have had so many compliments on my skin, I am very happy that I took accutane.

Just wondering...has anyone experienced a change in skin "texture"? About a week ago I started noticing that my pores look a little larger than normal. I have no zits or anything and I still love my skin but it just looks a bit different. If anyone has experienced a similar effect or knows what I'm talking about could you let me know?

P.S.
I hated all of those blood tests! And the online questions, please.

dear maria, I have Thoughts of suicide also. and im sure it is because of my uncle passing away and because if this drug. you see i was verry close to him and it was a shock when it happened. but my advice to you is to struggle to get off the drug because as i have learned the hard way it could contribute to your thoughts of suicide. know also that in all honasty you have people that are going through simular situations, such as i am, and that they are fighting the same problems. so no matter what you feel to do to yourself, never give up the will to live because when you overcome this problem you will realise that it was worth the fightno matter how long it takes. so in concluding i think that you should tell your doctor about what you are going through and get up as much courage up as you can, because everyone who is also going through those kind of prblems is, and always will be, rooting for you.
