Guyana may have fairly high suicide rates because of population pressure and population type. Some people do not tolerate hardship or disappointment that well.

An East Indian woman who was a medical student leapt to her death from a fifth story window once. The reason was that a certain fiance from her ethnic group found a better deal in the marriage mart and told her and her family that he was breaking off.

A certain friend of mine who was of East Indian descent scared one of my nine lives away once. We were going to do exams and traffic was heavy. It looked like we might get there late and he immediately knew what that would mean. He started talking about killing himself by running us into on-coming traffic. I gave him a look and he changed his mind. He later became an alcoholic and did die young at his own hands.
Guyana has a heavy East Indian descent population as well as some Native Indian, African, European, Middle Eastern populations.
