Cannabis cuts depression in low doses but disastrous in higher doses: study

There are 162 comments on the The Canadian Press story from Oct 23, 2007, titled Cannabis cuts depression in low doses but disastrous in higher doses: study. In it, The Canadian Press reports that:

- A news study says cannabis can be effective in fighting depression at low doses, but at higher doses can worsen depression and other psychiatric conditions.

The study by McGill University and Universite de Montreal, to be published Wednesday, says cannabis in low doses can increase serotonin levels in the brain.

Anti-depression drugs work by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain.

But the study showed when higher doses were injected into lab rats, the effect was described as completely reversed, even devastating. Read more

Pot is cheaper than Paxil too!

Lets see.... It is good for nausea, migrain headache, glaucoma, decreassed appetite, anxiety and now depression!

No wonder the Feds are still busting the pot smoker in California, where it is legal with a doctors prescription. The drug makers are under control of the Feds (FDA) and they would loose billions of dollars a year if pot replaced all of the drugs they manufacture, for use for the above listed problems.

And just think.... the side effects of pot are almost non existant compared to those of the drugs that the drug manufactures produce.

Oh, BTW, did I mention that people who smoke pot are better drivers while high, than the driver who drink alcohol? Yea, the old foot gets heavy when alcohol is a factor, but the little pot smoker just gets more and more careful!

I say "Ban alcohol andf legalize pot"...Then everybody will feel better and the accident rate might go down!

Be Happy folks!

I'm for the legalization of all drugs. But watch out. I listened to a doctor talk about the effects of pot on depressed people, and one of the major side effects is that it literally makes you stupid. The drug stays in the mylon fat deposits of your neurons and prevents them from forming working synapses and well functioning thought patterns.

So, you might feel better at first, but think about what you're giving up--IQ.

What really makes you stupid is believing everything that you are told.

Let me see now, while smoke a joint of good pot some 40 years after I started, I heard Juliano Zacardelli breaking the hate crimes act of Canada.

Out of the entire country of 35 million on March 5 2005 I contacted the CRTC via email and because I was one of the Readily denfinable group, the pot growers, on who they were trying to pin the murders of the four mounties to I could legally complain.

The file number was issued on the 7th see link and from that day forward there was never again a link to pot growers with that crime on the national broadcasters.

Juliano on the 8th withdrew his statements and apologized. It took Arar's lawyers more than 3 years to get the same thing.

They dropped production charges in my case unilaterally.

Before you call me stupid again, I suggest you think about it.

Cotler, Mclellan, Zacardelli--- by definition is called organized crime.

http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2007/03/3563...

I Told Paul Martin about the crimes being committed but he shirked his duty as a lawyer to the law, as a Prime Minister to the Constitution and as a Canadian to the people of Canada.

If anyone cares to look, I did much in my life standing up for the law and I was never sworn to..

I as a daily toker posses more brains which can be seen by my understanding of the law although I have no formal training in it. This can be seen in our separate interactions. Three ministers of the Federal Government including the Justice Minister couldn't figure out the laws that they were breaking? I certainly am proud not be as stupid as they are.

In any debate using reason I'd be able to make a fool out of you. You heard a doctor say That pot makes you stupid, eh?

I saw a Neurosurgeon on TV using an ice pick behind a person's eyeball in the sixties and proclaim it was a great cure for certain mental disorders with hardly any side effects.

Doctors have said all kinds of things that have proved to be untrue and even fatal.

They have failed to reasonably using info THAT WAS AVAILABLE IN ORDER TO protect the Canadian blood supply system and thousands have died as a result.

Belief in doctors is guaranteed to make you stupid while also being fatal many times, that is a fact.

Oh did I tell you that I have a clean unblemished license and have been a soaring pilot for 27 years.

So tell how stupid I am again, please.

I have never yet met a pot smoker that is as gullible as you seem to be on first appearances.

What you see is government funded propaganda to keep prohibition intact.

If it were so dangerous and I had access to the coroners records like the government has, I would make them public to show the citizens the tragic consequences of a drug that makes you both impaired and stupid.

You and I will never see them because they would prove the opposite that pot is found less often in the blood of drivers who have been the victim of accidents than any other drug.

This is Harper propaganda for dimwits like you!

Pot actually enhances your intelligence and as soon as a majority become daily tokers we will have the brain power tho see through political lies and actually elect a government that has an ability to govern.

Take for instance here in Vancouver today, I went to research the fine point of the law at UBC

It seems that no one else in this city can see that the new police chief has broken the law, public trust and shirked his duty to the citizens.

The very next day after one of his officers, by eyewitness accounts, shot to death a man with his hands up on Granville street, the chief came out fore square behind this cop saying on the news that this action was necessary and a part of his duty.

That is a shame because the investigation had not yet begun and knowing that it would be his department's duty to investigate itself he also prejudiced that investigation encouraging his men to find the shooter not guilty.

The reason they give the public for not having an independent investigatory board is that they are the cops are the only ones qualified to investigate themselves.

He has proven to me a stupid pot smoker that he doesn't have the brains to figure out that his duty requires him to stay neutral and say, "the matter is still under investigation and I am not allowed to comment."

No he figures that he can influence the investigation and conduct it at the same time.

Not one F***ing legal joker here can see the obstruction of justice or has the balls to say anything. I'm going to stand up for all those intelligent non pot smokers here who don't care that the first response of the new chief was to the thin blue brotherhood. Not a thought for fair investigation or the legal processes, not a thought for the citizens of Vancouver who may not want to be policed by an executioner.

The first response from our new chief was to the gang mentality where they stand together and cover up even murder.

Call me stupid all you want but I see the bovine graduates from law school who have much less than me upstairs, to cowed by the system to do any good for society. I see them to stupid to understand the fine points of the law as they are applied to everyday life.

I will be making a formal complaint sop that this city is not policed by murderers and those who stand by them in order to obstruct justice.

Thank the stars that there is one stupid toker in the city of Vancouver or these goons with colors and guns wouldn't have a care in the world.

I'd say that as a daily toker I'm a hell of a lot brighter than those in the Canadian government who are putting road blocks up for our own home grown electric car makers. They are being denied a domestic market in what is a legal shuffle by transport Canada so that we can Kow Tow to the american gas guzzling industry at the expense of development in what is sure to be the future, This reminds me of the way that Diefenbaker scrapped the Arrow at American Aerospace industry's request.

and as a daily toker I'm certainly smarter than the Bovine who support the guy with the simple Simon slogans like, "the party's over"

And I and many like me will be able to bring our talents to bear to thwart the Government propaganda in favor of freedom from the lies of the christian right who continue to try to insert their morals into the laws of the land.

Stupid is you who buys into the bullshit!

Yeah and I was stupid enough that while Harper was beating the war drums of GWB in opposition in the spring of 2002, a full year before he invaded Iraq, that I stood on the border in demonstration warning of the chaos that would befall the free world if the USA were to invade Iraq based on lies.

Unlike our stupid acti0ons of our present PM at the time if my advice had been taken then, the world would be a much safer place today.

No the problem is that the beer drinking couch potatos who elected the American Moronic Administration are the stupid ones.

Harper is stupid in his reasoning powers and is a dictator not willing to let brighter talents have input.

And should Canadians be stupid enough to elect this northern version of the Great American Moron, we'll pay for it with the same sort of suffering.

I must agree with you. I have been a smoker since I was 16 and now am 52. I went thru college and became a Regestered Nurse. I only went to school (college) one day when I had not smoked. We had a test and I failed it....and I was totally straight! All the other days, I went to school stoned. I stayed on the Deans List all the way through! When I took my State Boards, I had 600 points MORE than I needed to get my state license! I have worked my way up the chain through all levels of lower, middle and upper level management. I climbed up the ladder very quickly, too, I might add.

Before I went for my RN license, I went through Massey Draughn Business College, graduated and went directly to work for Jimmy D. Lane, who at the time was the Vice Pres. of Pepsi Cola. I also was on the Deans List all the way through.

I cannot say smoking pot has ever negatively affected my abilities. It has only enhanced them.

Oh yeah that reminds me at 40 I went back to school, grade 13 again and took chemistry physics and molecular biology, I got 98% in the latter and the highest masrks in the city of Belleville winning an award.

That allowed me to try to take the 2 year environmental science program in one. Which I completed in one year with a 4.0 average and made the dean's list.

You friggin morons who believe in this propaganda crap, are the stupid ones.

You are idiots who elect the worst lying morons because you are to stupid to see through the lies .

One thing that I will do if the moron Harper's tough bill firm up the pot prices, I will get back into the business to help keep the medicine that makes me intelligent flowing.

That is what we promise you idiot Canadians who are dazzled by this Conservative bs. Guaran-F***ing-teed.

The sideways blaming marijuana use on the ferries gets me too.

Lets blame everything bad on pot.

For years this corporation was a repository of patronage position.

The management was political and billion dolloar mistakes were made.

These political hacks could run a grocery store and the ran the ferry system into the deep water where it has been foundering through mismanagement.

Who in the F88k was in charge of training?

The people on the bridge that night had not been trained properly to run the navigation equipment.

These backhanded rumors about pot a a part of the conservative spin machine designed to lie themselves into power.

F**k you Mr. Harper, go suck on a donut.

One thing that dazzles people about the McGill study that has never even been touched....

Just what were the higher doses in ratio to the animal's body mass?

The morons who take these propaganda science demonstrations and run with them screaming danger fail to understand that even water in higher doses can be fatal.

They don't see the figures, couldn't understand the them if they did see them, and don't have the basis understanding of science to follow the methodology, yet these Harper supporters love go screaming bullshit propaganda.

the danger of these campaigns to vilify pot and follow the party line is that they appeal specifically to those of lower intelligence.

If the Conservatives do get in, they will not last long, they never have, because reason will soon prevail again.

So think about this truth: We will have a slim majority like Bush to the south got twice, on the backs of those easily swayed by marketing, the stupidest of our society.

There can be no other expectation Than a backwards slide as a country under the rule of those supported by morons.

Don't believe me?

Look south and see what happened to the country and the world, perpetrated by those with the same slogans our PM is currently using.

He got them from Jack Luntz the architect of the Conservative win to the south.

Too stupid to even research these glaring facts, the morons will go with a jingle that they like, "The party's over!"

I'll tell you mr. Harper, My party started in 1964 and it's never missed a day yet due to your stupid prohibition laws.

I intend to have my favorite intelligence enhancing herbal medicine on me always, and smoke it anywhere in public where smoking of tobacco is allowed. I never worry who is around me as I exercise my natural rights.

I intend to continue to access the best pot in the world from several competing dealers in my immediate area for anywhere from $5 to $10 per gram within minutes.

I'll let you A**holes know when there is the slightest cooling down of my party the minute it happens.

Come get me you harborers of murdering cops, you subverter of Canadians' rights, you squanderer of Canadian Blood for American foreign policy interests.

You who even perpetrated an election fraud to gain the slightest of minority governments.

You are The f***ing criminal not playing fair in order to deceive Canadians into voting for your slop. Election FRAUD !!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WIN WITH DECEPTION ALONE, EH?

MANY OF THE DEALERS OF MARIJUANA HAVE A LIST OF WHAT'S ON TAP WITH THE PRICES BESIDE THE PRODUCT.

I' bet that this is uncommon in the USA. I like getting the menu and being able to choose from up to six different products at a time.

That is the honest state of things around here.

That is the true result of 9 decades of prohibition of a law that was enacted 12 years before the first recorded incidence of pot use came about.

This is the great success that the Conservatives claim when they say that their get tough policy will perpetrate more of on us Canadians.

Thank so so much you portly liar, election fraudster, Mr. Harper.

Send your goon forces out to get me and tell me that the party is over.

In the bnext few ours i'll wind my way down to the Office of the Police Complaints Commission, top lodge my complaint against the chief of the VPD for obstructing justice in the investigation of his cop who shot and emptied his entire 9 shot clip into a guy with his hands up.

I'm alway carrying as I said, so lets get real........ if wish to make my day.

What I smoke is none of your F***ing business and I have the same right as any other living entity on the planet, to ingest whatever substance I choose!!!!!!!!!!

Go ahead make my day!!!!!!!! you powerful leader, you, Mr, Rotund Harper junk food addict and election fraudster, and harborer of cops who murder my fellow citizens.

Shut down my party if your are not all bullshit!!!

Make my day big guy!!!!!!!!!!

You'll find out what neighbors of a daily pot smoker will do to anyone who tries to persecute me.

I'd love a chance to take down your illegal prohibition legislation.

LOL Yea, I lived in Holland for 3 years and it was great! It has been the only place for me personally that had a menu to choose from. On the left side was the different kinds of pot and on the right was the different kinds of hash. You told them what you wanted, they rang it up, added sales tax, you paid and they gave you your shit! Then you would go sit at one of their tables and roll up. Papers were supplied in a little container in the center of the table. It was awesome! Smoking pot on the streets while walking around was cool too. No one said anything to you about YOUR BUSINESS!

It so beautiful to here from your slice of Dutch pie!

I'm back unmolested from continuous party after having made a formal complaint against the Chief of Police of the VPD. I charged hime with obstruction of Justice, negligence in his duty to the citizens of Vancouver and the law, and also the appearance of possibly harboring someone guilty of murder.

The office person informed ,me that i may not get 1st party status.

I can't see how is anything but personal that a person who obstructs justice in an investigation and is currently chief of those who police me.

God it feels great to do this , so right! and it took no more than 3 minutes of my time.

The office is peaceful and empty because all the high IQ non tokers don't bother to make a complaint and seem happy to be policed by murderers and those who cover up for them.

I love your last sentence. That synopsizes it for me.

It is the Christian right driven America that has its greedy nose in everybody else's business on the planet.

The prohibition laws were fomented in church basement on the premise these closed minded idiots had a supreme right to meddle anyone else's lives even under the pretext that they were doing it as a concern for the safety of others.

That is where our drug mess comes from: that the government has the right to mind your business for you.

Basically, it is the urge yo be free from opress, within each human that then give rises to the antidote to this oppression. ORGANIZED CRIME..........
