Read the story in the Bible(KJV) in 1 Kings 19 about Elija and his Depression and what God told him to do to cure it.

This is some advice from this passage and how to truely cure depression(you don't need any medication or psyciatrist):
(verse 11) "Go forth" (verse 15) "Go" God told him to "Go" because:
1) he was isolating himself from everyone (Dont do that, try to get around as MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN! Don't shut yourself away from everybody! Do the exact opposite!)
2) because he wasn't doing anything (GO AND FIND SOMETHING TO DO AND TRY TO STAY BUSY! GO GO GO!)

Lol that is the cure, God's cure, and it works.

1)OK so say someone has social anxiety disorder and they get more upset when around people?
2)People who are depressed often lack motivation.
Lol that is the cure, God's cure, and it works.

My motivation when I get depressed is to get it cured.

You must not realize that people who are depressed, and I mean truely, clinically depressed do not think like you. You get upset, not depressed.

Lol, last year I was soo depressed, I would cry myself to sleep everyday and also cry alot at school for months, what I would do is lock my self in my room and cry the rest of the day whenever I got home, I didn't eat, or anything, I just got home and cryed until I fell asleep, and now like in this story God says "What doest thou here?", "Go" to Elija and it is a very simalar case here. This is very very successful. So please don't make misconceptions about whether I do or do not know what it's like to get depressed.

This is ridiculous... you've got to be a complete jack ass to reject the fact that clinical depression is a malfunction in the amount of chemicals being produced in your brain. You cannot rewrite your own genetics just by putting yourself out in uncomfortable circumstances (depressed people tend to avoid large groups of people for a reason- it can make them physically sicker (panic attacks) without medication and/or therapy to aid them!).

Further, being busy doesn't always make negative thoughts dissapear. It can certainly help a lot for some people, but it just isn't a cure.

Lastly, consider that there millions of people that AREN'T Christian, and believe in factual scientific discoveries.

Damn, if our world were run by saps like you we'd still be in the fucking dark ages.

The Bible(KJV) says:
Proverbs 29:2 "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." Lol and I thought "depressed people" mourn alot, don't they? Lol.:-)

hi Jo Brandi and HarmonyJ!!!
and others...:)

yes jo - it is a good 'neck of the woods' to 'ressurect [sic] the suicide forum. be good to contain it in one thread as it makes it easier. how about SUICIDE>>>?<< <DEPRESSION

also not a bad idea to re-institute >>>SAFETY ZONE<<<
where we invite everyone to be polite, like Topix suggests!!

:=] that's my horse signature

btw - i was white-venus until a 'bible person' at home told me that venus was considered a jezebel - so i thought i was putting myself up for potential abuse :(

In the chinese system i am a horse [metal] and i am white, very white![Nordic white - whence some my genes]

Speaking of genes, we do inherit depression genes [it's been scientifically proven] as well as picking up on depression in our folks - this skews into our role-modelling stuff. and yes, there are clinical cases of chemical disruptions in the brain for all sorts of reasons, self-inflicted and otherwise.'god, theh father' is just one 'headspace' MODEL of coping. One of many.
But i do agree with Markie saying to GET OUT and about. Address the phobias with professional assistance, chaperones, anything - but do it. Small steps - a chair in the garden in the sunshine - or on the pavement if u don't have a garden.

the internet can be very disjointed and fragmented and frustrating. For instance, finding the suicide category suddenly deleted from Topix. That is a terrible thing to do - i am worried avout several people who were hanging on to those threads.

please, if anyone comes across "Nefarian/Jim/razorgore ", or "wishtodie/Latvia", please bring them here.

have a lovely weekend - i am around -in and out.
speak soon
warm regards all
:)

God? Do you really think God gives a shit if you're depressed or not? Do you really think that, while he goes around burning and fuming and storming and disease-spreading, that he really cares that your self-esteem is so low you feel like slitting those big, beautiful arteries and just ending it all? And surrounding yourself with people? What if they're all unimaginative, Creativity-challenged, stupid, ignorant, unfunny assholes? I'd rather take my chances with Coyotes than those cocksuckers. People blatantly suck. If God really wants us to get up off our butts and do "something", than why not just mastuerbate until the end of days? that'd be something and it would feel good too.

P.s. You're relying on the bible? A peice of literature that has been retold, reread and rewritten for thousands and thousands of years by MEN?

I am not a prude, but the way you speak makes my hair stand on end.
Even without the bible, we know that the greatest thing any human being can do is to be loving, forgiving and compassionate.

And, by the way, God is not a man. Man created him in his own image to try and understand him or to find some 'comfort' in the 'relationship' with 'him' and his 'son'. But that is just for those who choose that as an icon to represent God for them. It works for many.
For the others, you need to find an image that is spiritually inspiring and comforting and that allows you to evolve into a loving being, as nature intends and attempts in its nurture.

Maybe by nature you are a loving human being and don't need any outside help.

I honestly think that is a wonderful Idea. I was feeling really angry and alone that day and I know I have to cut my swearing down some. I really didn't say god was a man. I didn't. I said that the bible wasn't written by god. It was written by a group of ancients a long time ago that said that it was the word of god so that people would adopt it as the real thing. It spreads wonderful lessons about life and loving thy neighbor and living a healthy, beautiful life. so who really cares if it's not the actual word of god? It is an important book. or maybe it is the actual word of god and Mankind (being the way we are) put our own twist on it so maybe the word of god is a little distorted. In any case, I am depressed and bulimic and I will say what I want, when I want, how I want because such things are protected by the constitution. My little rant was to let off some steam. Please allow me to vent and to not pass judgement. thank you.~~~~~~~~~MJP~~~~~~~~~~

Easier said then done. Although, you may have had depression and it may have worked for you, it will not help all people just as one drug will not help all people. That is why there are so many different kinds. There are alos many different kinds of religion so some people may not read the Christian/Catholic Bible.
I have depression/anxiety, ocd and other mental & physical conditions. If I go where there are alot of people my symptoms rise dramatically. I now take Cymbalta which also helps pain as well as the depression/anxiety. I had tried many others and this one seems to be helping the best. I now can go to the grocery store without feeling to bad. It is still scary, but I must do it if I ever want to live a half way decent/normal life again and not rely solely on the drug. But, it takes time, patience, courage, etc. and for some people...medicine.
