Good to know it's just not my imagination. The generic effexor is messing me up also. I am feeling like I do when I miss my effexor...nauseated, a strange dizziness that someone described as "brain shivers" and some heightened anxiety.
I will contact my Dr. and have the brand name written up for me.
same thing happening to me...I hate the Effexor dizziness, nausea etc....def calling dr in morn.

omg its horrible!!

Though I have to pay $150 (with insurance) for a 90 day supply of the brand name (versus $40 for a 90 day supply of the generic) I've gladly done so for the past 6 months or go. It was a bit of a pain in the butt though - my doctor had no problem writing the prescription and filling out a special form, but CVS Caremark kept filling it as the generic! I think they figured no one in their right mind would pay so much more, WILLINGLY. Finally got that straightened out. It's worth it.

I have been on Effexor XR for about 8 years. It has worked very well for me. About 2 years ago I was given the generic version. It caused be to not be able to sleep hardly at all. I spoke to my pharmacist about it and he said there were problems with the generic in some people. I told my doctor and she specified that I needed to be on the name brand. I got back on that and have been fine since. Now my insurance company has informed me that they will no longer pay for it. My doctor had me try the generic again. I agreed to give it a try since it is 2 years later, and I hoped maybe the problems were fixed. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Not only can I not sleep, but I feel shaky, somewhat nauseated, and somewhat anxious. I have a call in to my doctor to see what can be done. Not sure what's gonna happen, but I hope something can be one.

I remember reading that there were problems with the xr form-binding agents were not working as intended apparently and affecting the way the drug was released-surprised it's still not resolved.
The instant release generic form doesn't have these problems

I have been on generic venlafaxine immediate release for over a year. I was on 150 mg for 6 weeks and felt horrible so I decided to cut my dose to 75mg I had terrible withdrawals and have been suffering for over a year.
Has anyone switched from immediate generic form to brand name effexor XR?

I've been on Effexor from http://goo.gl/TRCx1y only one week but am cautiously very optimistic. Prior to this I was on citalopram but still feeling very low and sleeping poorly, feeling like I needed to be in bed 12-16 hours a day. Now I am waking naturally after only 8 hours sleep and finding it much easier to concentrate at work. I can hardly believe it is working so quickly but I feel so much better. I've had no side effects.

Hi all -- I just wanted to share my experience, as I too felt very bad when I started taking generic venlafaxine (after many years of using brand name Effexor).
As I live in a country where the brand-name product is simply unavailable, I decided to take larger doses (my original dose was 150mg/day, and I upped it to over 300mg/day -- just going on gut feeling, really). I can only say that this has worked for me so far, and I think it's possible that after my body gets accustomed to the new medication, I will be able to reduce the dose again (although I don't really mind either way). I've also seen this given as advice on a medical website: ie, that sometimes patients need a higher dose of generic medicines.
For what it's worth, I also read that the capsule coatings can be different between generic and brand-name medicines, so I actually open the capsule (carefully!) and just swallow the contents.
To anyone struggling with this issue, I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best.

I have also have had significant issues with switching from brand name antidepressants to generic. Now my pharmacy has been switching generic venlafaxine companies monthly for past 2 or three months. From Teva to Zydus etc... I totally crashed. I ended up in a psychiatric unit for the first time ever. I need Walgreen's to put their profit seeking corporate behaviors behind them for the benefit of their patients. How to fight this? One person against a major profit seeking corporation? I have a pretty strong idea that I will be on the losing end of this fight.
Is anyone aware if there are any class action lawsuits with this drug?

I was forced to switch from brand Effexor XR to generic form. I am experiencing the same issues that I experienced 5 years ago. I had hoped that the generic had improved but no such luck. My mood is very low, and I feel shaky. My head feels like it is in vise. But, the biggest issue for me is that my insurance co. will not honor m doctor's request of "No Substitutes." So, I switched to the generic because it would cost me$ 600.00 for a month of e brand. Apparently, Express Scripts sets the price?? The insurance co. has to honor it. I think the next step for me is to take out a loan to pay for it.But, it is worth it to me.

This same issues have happened to me. I've been on the Effexor XR capsules for the past 2 months with no problems. I take back for refill and I notice they are now tablets. Figured ok maybe it's just the generic. Took my dose of 2 pills and within 2 hrs later I have a splitting headache and feel like crap! Went back to pharmacy and they tell me the drug company sends them what they have, whatever is the cheapest.?!?! And they don't tell me this before filling my prescription or at least when I pick it up?! This happens on a Friday at 5:30pm so I can't call my Drs office. Now I'm stuck with these pills I don't want to take over the weekend. So annoyed....
