I have been in a little world of misery ever since I was switched to the generic a little over a week ago (same 150mg/ 1xday/ XR). I was initially dizzy/nauseous (typical mild withdrawal as if I forgot to take it one day). That has now been replaced four-five days later with greater generalized anxiety, and a very severe case of what seems to be acid reflux and nausea. This may not be attributed to the generic, but I've never in my life had this chest burning, stomach irritation before now. I can't go back to the name brand until my insurance will cover it, so if my symptoms subside then, I'll have my answer. I'm also having a lot of trouble with my ears - I can't help but think that's just odd and humorous. Anyone else?
yes, i took it wed. nite for the first time for menapause symtoms and my ears were like a speaker, and when i coughed my legs shook. i had never had such a horrible experience and i never will again. i'll never take them again.

Our complaining to one another makes us feel like we are not alone in this ordeal; however, more must be done.
I have sent 2 emails to the FDA today asking them to either close down TEVA or block shipments of their drugs into the USA. I have had bad experiences with 3 TEVA drugs...and would with the 4th if I tried another. I do NOT plan to take anything else made
by TEVA!
PLEASE HELP ME STOP THESE BAD DRUGS FROM BEING FORCED UPON US!!!
email.... druginfo@fda.hhs.gov
I have recieved emails confirming the 2 emails I sent. PLEASE HELP get rid of these bad meds being pushed off on us only to make us sicker. Thank you!

Hi, I am in New Zealand. I have been on Effexor for several years at a 300mg daily dose. Last time I collected my medication from the pharmacy I was told that "the packing has changed but it's exactly the same" -(Arrow, Venalfaxine XR). For about 3 or 4 weeks I was feeling more 'down' than usual and had several disruptions - such as having to return from a school camp where I had volunteered as parent help. When I picked up a repeat prescription this week a different pharmacist gave me Effexor XR and explained that there is a generic brand available but it is not exactly the same.
I would prefer to stay on Effexor

So glad I found this! I will be sending an e mail to the FDA. About 2 weeks after taking the generic I started thinking I was getting the flu. I was achey, fatigued, nauseated. I then started throwing temper tantrums at work, crying (I should say SOBBING) spells for no reason, and would find myself staring at the wall. I had no desire to do anything and even putting on earrings was a big chore. My Dr was all ready to increase my dose when I came across this thread. I had some brand name pills left over and started taking those as an experiment. Within days I felt better. I sent my insurance an e mail asking if I can fill the brand name earlier. Curiously I have taken the generic before with no problems. Not sure if this is a new company (Teva) or was a "bad" batch.

I have taken brand Effexor XR for 9 years - generic is not an option for me.

Even with insurance and the Effexor XR co-pay card, it is very, very expensive for a single person on a limited income.

Has anyone ordered brand Effexor XR from a Canadian pharmacy? If so, would you mind sharing which pharmacy, and how you did on it.

I'm having the same problem withy insurance. I hope I don't have bad side affects with the generic form. I always do

I read all of these and still didn't fully understand how bad this generic was! I was trying to withdraw from Effexor for the past 2 years and going so slowly. I tried to go faster [one bead a week] and was in a horrible place after 2 months!!! I was shaking and had awful anxiety everyday getting worse and worse and crying. I was scared to be alone and crying all day long with several panic attacks, and physical shaking when it was time to take the medicine again. I could never have went one day without taking it.

Shocker was that I agreed to go into the hospital but the day before I went I found some of the brand name Effexor and took it, the second day before I went in the hospital I took the brand name again. I felt so much better. I wanted to show the Dr what was happening to me........what I have been dealing with for the past years......The Dr said I would have to take the generic and that I would have to go back up to 37.5 cause he would not allow or believe in counting beads . He also did not believe there was any w/d with Effexor. I refused the generic and was prepared for horrible w/d but nothing happened!!! I can't believe the generic venlafaxine was causing me that much problems!!! So far its been 4 days without anything and I don't know if I'll have to go back on the brand name and w/d but I do know the anxiety is gone and the shaking. Alot of people say the generic is not releasing right and I believe them but I never dreamed it was causing most of my problems. I wonder how many other people on here are having the same problem and don't know they are taking the generic. I didn't until I read this forum.

If you have any of the brand name left take it for a few days and see how you feel. I could tell a difference the first day and it seems to stay in your system for longer and more evenly.

I'm glad there is someone else who tried the brand name and felt better also. I wish more people could do this but not everyone has the brand name. I had a whole bottle of them for the past 2 years sitting in my cabinet and never knew that was the answer and I could have ended all of this hell I have been going through. I've lost so many days of my life and all of my friends...who wants to be around someone who is depressed and having anxiety attacks. I could scream that they let these drugs be given out without testing!

TEVA came out with the first generic Effexor XR.
I don't believe you got just a bad batch. I had to
switch to TEVA generic and have never been so miserable
in my whole life. Please report TEVA Pharma to the FDA.
I have been give 2 other drugs in entirely different catagories made by TEVA. They are making and distributing
drugs that are bad. Please anyone who sees this report.

I agree! RFK Jrs wife had the generic in her system when she killed herself! Wonder if they realize it could have been what was making her worse! That could have been me last week! I was so bad I went to the hospital. Now 5 days off the venlafaxine and everything is 100% better! Maybe that is all RFK jr wife needed....to quit taking the generic!

I get notified when someone posts and the posts keep on coming. A co-worker just came back from his home in Africa and told us the horror of the pharmacies in his country. They give out inferior drugs that don't do what they are suppose to do. DOES THIS SOUND FAMILAR? THE USA IS NOT A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! THE FDA IS SUPPOSE TO BE PROTECTING US! THEY ARE FAILING!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I HAVE BEEN ON EFFEXOR XR sucessfully for 4 yrs. Since switching to generic I have had all the same symptoms you deacribed as well as vivid nightmares and chronic fatigue. I am fighting my insurance company to allow for the non generic form to be covered. Good luck

Hi,
Wow....I'm so glad I'm not alone in feeling like this! I can take comfort. I have medicaid, and medicaid refuses to switch me from generic to the brand name of effexor xr!*sigh* I tried to talk to my psychiatrist, and told him I don't feel anything on the generic, but he is being difficult and won't even make the effort to call my insurance up to switch it back. The generic has been nothing but hell, and I have even been having these hormonal problems it's freaky. Now it all makes sense 6 months taking the generic probably messed with my hormones! I never had these side effects before,*ahem* menopausal like symptoms...it's scary! Also, I've never been so obsessive, more irritable, and more tired in my life. x____X Ugh! I left a message with my pcp because my psychiatrist won't listen to me anymore. I hope she can help. I wish there was a program to help people with medicaid, is there? Otherwise, it's 530 something dollars to pay out of pocket!

There is a way to get the brand name. My daughter contacted the company and they have a program that you take the papers to your dr and they fill them out with proof of your income and the brand name Effexor is sent right to your Dr.

Thankyou, and guess what? Medicaid still denied to let me have my heaven sent brand name effexor xr. Not only that, all those symptoms, I'm in my early 30s by the way, well get this, all those evil menopausal-like symptoms are 98% gone, since I got off the hellride that's the generic a week ago. I'm just saying, it was a bad reaction for me, taking the generic. And, my energy is back to how I used to feel before taking it. My skin is glowing and hydrating again. I don't have all over body weakness, and I can run around and not feel bloated and uncomfortable after my favorite chinese food lunch box. Also, I could stop obsessing about looking in the mirror so much, and feel my old self coming back to me slowly, after being hostile toward my family for months. I will plan to sue the fda and take action however, for losing 6 months of my life I can never get back.=\ I will mail a report with medwatch, and demand somehow the brand name gets back on the list. I seem to be doing fine just getting by on multivitamins, and omega 3, but effexor xr was good to me I won't forget. So yeah, just an update....

p.s. people's wellbeing is valuable when it comes down to mental illness. Emotional wellbeing is precious like gold. The generic and brand is not the same, no matter what bs the doctors say. I think! o_o; Alright enough of my babbling....sry about that.

You have to contact the company to have the effexor sent to your Dr then they give it to you.

I contacted Phizer yesterday and they said I'm eligible for care to connect program. Now, just gotta fill out the form when it's mailed, and it's another approval process. Also, I filed a report with the fda medwatch over the phone.....I think I was getting so mad, because I've been so frustrated, after everything that happened, because I thought I couldn't fight my insurance, or feel better somehow over this. But it's a little better now....lol I probably went overboard to think about suing, also....^^;
