There are 8 comments on the The Fanatic Cook story from Sep 3, 2007, titled St. John's Wort Vs. Celexa. In it, The Fanatic Cook reports that:

“These results revealed that hypericum extract STW3-VI is a good alternative to chemically defined antidepressants in the treatment of outpatients with moderate depression.”

A once-daily dose of St. John's wort extract finished in a dead heat against the popular pharmaceutical anti-depressant Celexa for cases of moderate depression. via The Fanatic Cook

I was on the drugs (20 mg) for 3 months before tapering off over a course of 4 (!) months. Once at zero, definitely felt 'out of it', then very tired/stresses/paranoid, so....badabing, went back on it. NOW, as usual, I'm researching ways to be back off. So, please, if you're feeling better, and have gotten past whatever 'withdrawal symptoms' let the rest of us know how it went.

best of luck

Ive been on celexa now for about 3 years. seemed to work well for me for a while but at the same time i was struggling with cocaine addiction. Ive been clean for over a year. im a starting starting to notice the bad side of celexa, such as day dreamingnegative thinking lack of sexual desire even sometimes of what am i here for.Im afraid that with out the celexa I could be in whole lot worse shape. I wish my options were different.

I have used http://qgeneric.info/#dntn for about 3 years and find their products to be reliable and speedily delivered. The Support team are very promt and helpful in solving any issues that arise, caused by my errors not the company's. I was a little sceptical initially about buying generic products rather than brand names. However, the Mens' Health products I have bought have been equally as efficatious as the brand names at a fraction of the cost.

St. John’s wort, a plant that grows in the wild, has been used for centuries for health purposes. However, consumers need to be aware of serious concerns about its safety and effectiveness. This fact sheet summarizes scientific research on St. John’s wort for depression and suggests sources for more information.
- Combining St. John’s wort with certain antidepressants can lead to a potentially life-threatening increase of serotonin, a brain chemical targeted by antidepressants.
- St. John’s wort is not a proven therapy for depression. Do not use St. John’s wort to replace conventional care or to postpone seeing your health care provider. If depression is not adequately treated, it can become severe and, in some cases, may be associated with suicide.

The only way to really know if St. John's Wort will work for you is to try it. Just don't use it while taking Celexa. My doc once told me the Wort doesn't mix well with SSRI meds like Celexa. Combining the two can cause blood pressure problems.
