Two weeks ago I had my uppers pulled. Dentures came in and were put in place yesterday. The denture that came in was so out of shape to my mouth that she had to work on it two hours yesterday morning, then have me come back in yesterday afternoon for another hour and a half to get it to fit.

My problem is I now have an overbite. I have never had one and it concerns me so much that I feel like I should be a character on the Simpsons.

I went back this morning for an adjyustment and asked what could be done about the overbite. The Dentist said nothing, that my gums had receded and that was where I was stuck.

Is that likely over the course of two weeks or is my dentist pulling my leg?
sorry

I think most dentists tell you that you always had an overbite. I agreed that I might have had a slight one but had never looked like Bucky Beaver before.

All I can tell you is that in the beginning I couldn't close my upper lip over the denture. After some adjustments, I can at least get my lips closed but it still looks like I'm holding something in my mouth. Which, of course, I am.

Gums do seem to shrink very quickly, but I don't think that explains why your denture didn't fit from the first day. Keep nagging your dentist, and hopefully she'll be able to get it right.

Mpulse .... that is BS. Your gums did not shrink that much in 2 weeks ... TELL HER YOU WANT THAT DENTURE REMADE OR YOU ARE GOING TO CALL YOUR LOCAL NEWS CHANNEL ... OR WHATEVER .... That is so wrong ... you paid for a denture, their obligation is to make you one that fits. Yes, you will have a slight overbite as your new teeth now come down from 'gums' that are in front of your own gums ... not from underneath anymore ... but that denture should fit.

Also, keep in mind that as the bone tissues shrink that they also shrink BACK further into the mouth. My overbite was VERY prominent at first and as I've healed, my overbite has gotten smaller and smaller. I complained about mine for the first couple of weeks to my prostodontist but she kept telling me, "If, at the 3 month mark, you're still unhappy with it, we'll make you a new one." Now, at almost 10 weeks, it's looks perfect. She kept telling me to give it time and she was right. I hope the same is true in your case, as well.
Good luck to you :) Keep us posted.

I'm having a new denture made, and I'm not happy with what appears to be a serious overbite with the new ones. It's not as if I've just had my teeth pulled, so no swelling is involved. I'm simply replacing an old set.

The idiot dentist (immigrant with poor English skills) insists that having my upper poked out so far is "normal", but I don't think I'm supposed to look like Bucky the Beaver.

Opinions?

I think your dentists needs to listen to YOU. For what we have to pay for dentures, we patients should have the last word.
The dental team I work with and I decided, before extractions, what my bite would be like. We decided to keep a bit of an overbite for me...I had a VERY prominent overbite with my natural teeth so to have no overbite, I didn't look like myself and my upper lip was too flat. I ended up with a small overbite (my choice). However...What your finished product looks like should be up to you.

If you try to tell people who make dentures how to make them, and you do not make dentures--look out!

I mean, what would you do if they told you to set the denture up yourself?

You are opening the door to getting your ass kicked, and that would be more of a story for your loca news to cover than "local yocal tries hand at dentures"

more than likey, peoplewho think about "calling the news" are ghetto welfare bums, looking for something for nothing.

Get a fucking job!(uncle ted says the same)

What do I do? I have been told that I have a strong overbite and dentures would break. My teeth are all in bad shape and need to come out. Does it make sense that dentures would break?shouldn't they be in the shape of hour mouth just like my teeth?

I have a partial, but needed additional teeth extracted, so I got fitted for a new partial. This one has the same problem described by everyone. I am glad I read your post. I will give it a little time before I decide to see a new dentist.

just because a person uses the state to pay for your dentures doesnt mean you have to get a pair of dentures that look horrible, that is BS, im on disability for a very good reason and had to get dentures, in 3 months i have had to return to the dentist 6 times a month because he cant make my dentures to look right, i hate the fact that i have to wear dentures in the 1st place so if i have to wear them i want and expect them to look presentable and you dont have to take any old stupid looking dentures just because the state paid for them, also i have worked my butt off all my life and i think i deserve something for all the money the govt has taken from me... you DONT have to settle for something that makes you look like a bucky beaver!

I had immediate dentures and they did not fit me at all. One side was way up in the air and the other side didnt even touch they were really bad. It sucked. Then my husband shaved them down with his dremal tool and they fit nice besides not touching the gums. Then I went in to get my original dentures thinking they would be better nd they aren't. It sux bit the dentist says they look fine. I know they don't he jus don't want to work on them he told me that if they didn't feel right in a year to come back and he'd reline them. What do I do for the year go without? This sux

.......... shes pulling your leg, tell her your not happy with your dentures and she needs to do a redo, if the state paid for your dentures they will try to throw anything at you they can, i made my dentist make me new ones 3 times, and they're still not right, i look like a snaggletooth , the teeth dont even line up in the front, but i cant get them to make me anymore because the state will only give them a so much time, now im gonna have to go and pay for new dentures, i have cried and am so depressed because of them, but if i was you keep nagging her to make your teeth right, they need to quit getting away with what they put people through, i feel so bad for you, DONT GIVE UP!!

I feel your pain! but in the opposite way! haha! I've never had perfect normal teeth (us Irish have generally smaller teeth-well a lot of us me included!) and I had quite pronounced "fangs" to to the point where ppl would ask me where I got them done! and I HAD AN OVERBITE AND A SMALL MOUTH!! so although we are going through "opposite" problems, we really have the same complaint!(u know what I mean?) but I keep telling myself that although my bottoms are loose as all heck I can ask for a softline!(tightens and helps feel like a pillow! especially in the beginning if they're too loose like THAT loose they should make u a set that fits better without paying for it. I went through FOUR sets b4 I got somewhat normal and could even close my lips and whatnot- I looked like a HORSE! so if you're unhappy talk to them ASAP. I can't wait until I finally get my permanents then I get to be really picky n u will too! hang in there ok?

Please help... I have the opposite problem... new dentures June 2016. From the beginning... zero overbite so my uppers and lowers hit one another... when I try to chew; the top hits the bottom and pops the bottom out. I have asked my Dentist who told me I was every Orthodontist dream and I was making it up... I have looked at everyone I meet and everyone on tv and all have a slight overbite. I did before but now nothing. I'm at a loss. My cost was over $5k.

Well you should check me out! Crickey, I was born with a congenital overbite, but my teeth looked great........Will post a pic then and after final results! and a expect a reply from orthodontic twats that ruined my mouth and facial features..........I was in my 20's when some dentist told me to go see an orthodontist. I did and those bastards robbed me of 11 virgin teeth so that their "Ideology" of orthodontic care would work for them, not for me. I went through surgery and shocking pain for four years with bands applied that were adjusted every month $300, per visit for two minutes work .$ 11, 000 later and after four years of crap my teeth became loose and the bastard money making bastards told me that it was quite normal for teeth to feel loose after orthodontic treatment. My teeth never tightened and became more and more wobbly..........I knew that I was going to lose my teeth.........and I did.......they stole my smile and now I do not have one, but they are happy going to the bank with my money and the way that they have left me. I trusted them so much

I now have dentures that are so disgusting..........every day, I look in the mirror and I do not see me. The twat of a dental mechanic made my dentures so small, it is like I have primary dentition and they are pointing backwards below my bottom teeth. When I smile my upper lip cannot look above the upper denture, so all I see is upper lip and no teeth..........My smile is gone, I am ashamed and never want to associate with people any more. I am past my use by time thanks to you!, you have ruined my life
