Rick - I was never without teeth. The implants were put in and then they took the existing denture that I was wearing, drilled areas to compensate for the posts and popped it back into my mouth. So I have never had to be without teeth. Sounds like you need a reline and to have a little trimmed off in the back of the palate ... Good luck ... you're going to LOVE not wearing a denture.

Angel and BAnn...thanks for posting to my blog. I am sorry I am not able to participate in this forum right now as my life has taken me down roads I never thought I would travel. It is all too personal to post here.
Fear not, I am well and looking forward to January when I get my porcelain bridge.
Angel, I am so glad you are finally finished...what a relief that must be...I know I am looking forward to that day myself.
I'm on comcast and I'm merry.mac if you want to email me. I will answer as time allows.
Hugs to all, Merry

Hi Angel and everyone, I think I posted back in July when I was starting my procedure of having ALL teeth extracted and 2 implants in the bottom to hold bottom denture in. I am a teacher and since school was out, dentist said it would be best not to put in 'immediates' that the healing would be faster - I stayed home. Finally, I got some temporaries froom the prostodontist. But I have lost about 27 lbs.- not a real bad thing, but I look terrible in my old clothes. Anyway, my face sags so much, I look 10 yrs. older. The temporaries are shaped different than my old upper bridge. My front teeth look like squirrel teeth, to me. My bottom teeth used to kindof stick out which made my lower lip have to overcompensate to cover - so it made my side profile look ugly. Well, that is fixed with lower denture, but my face sags...I am so unhappy with this new look, I am considering a facelift - when I guess all I have to do is ask the prosto to fix that with the permanent $4300 dentures !!! YES THAT'S RIGHT. He is charging $2200 for upper and $2200 for lower. I paid $500 for temps - said it was normally $1100 so I got a 'deal!!" they say. Anyone ever hear of this? The expensive dentures and the sagging face. I know I am rambling, but everytime I look at my side profile, I get mad.

If you're getting permanent bridges for $4300 you need to post the dentist and the location .... people will flock to this dentist by the plane loads.... Don't worry - once you get permanent bridges in your mouth you will look great! Make sure you keep us posted!

If your new teeth do not fit well without some adhesives, then your dentist did not make them to fit right. I have had dentures for 20 years (same pair) and they have always fit like a glove and I eat anything I want. I am in the process of having new ones made now and sure hope I have the luck I have had with these. Having them adjusted a few times after you first get them is normal but then they should not be painful. I do remember 20 some years ago when I had all my upper teeth pulled and it was a long ordeal and painful, but not unbearable. Hang in there, it does get a lot better after a couple weeks.

So are you saying that $4300 for dentures upper and lower is a deal??!!! I know people who have spent HALF that amount. I have not been back for a couple of months so I am still wearing temporaries... and with the bototm dentures, I HAVE TO USE THE ADHESIVE! And food tastes horrible - yes, I got the SECURE adhesive, but I just know I've got zinc poisoning... Sharon, thank you for your comments, but I got these teeth in late September...

Donna wrote: I'm sorry that you're having an unpleasant time with your dentures. I had all my teeth pulled and dentures put in last week. I had trouble for the first couple of days, but now I use an adhesive and I can pretty much eat what I want. It's hard, but I've been told it gets easier with time. My husband has had his for 2 years and nothing stops him either. By the way, we LOVE to eat. Maybe you could try having your dentist adjust them. Keep the faith, things will get easier with time. Thank you, Donna, for your comments. I tend to have a positive attitude about most things, but I'm kind of on my own on this decisison; and looking for positive attitudes and good advice. ...Lynne

I'ts been 24 hrs now, after having top teeth pulled and denture put in. I can deal with all but my top lip fell and now I look older than I should. Will this change in time?

I hate a pun ... but you're both just going to keep a stiff upper lip ....
Time will make things a whole lot different .... and I wish I could change that for you, but no one can.
Jennifer ... When you're ready, try toast instead of bread, believe it or not it will work much better - bread sticks to your denture and gets all gooey ....
Chop your mac up real fine, you should be able to eat it .... make everything the same consistency as you would for a baby who is teething ...
Take care of yourselves ... use your saltwater rinses to hurry things along.

Jennifer: I wouldn't use an adhesive on your stitched areas ... try sort of 'painting' your denture in the areas that will not touch them ... on the gums would probably be okay - otherwise, you would just be prolonging the healing process. Your denture shouldn't be popping up and down, and the dentist will probably adjust all of that for you when you get your stitches out and he is able to put in a soft reline. You're just gonna have to be patient for a few days ... soups,.... put crackers in it... Ensure, yogurt ... you know the drill ... it's just temporary, and if you fill your stomach often you won't feel so hungry. Mash up yams ... you can probably manage scrabbled eggs?

Try Carnation Breakfast Essentials. It even has nutrients in it. It's become the highlight of my life.
I make mac & cheese with a pasta called pastina. Very tiny pieces so you don't have to chop, probably not even as big as rice.

@JRD: good thing you didn't use fixodent and poligrip denture creams when you have problems of denture fitting... because if so, you might be one of the poligrip lawsuits petitioner today... ehehheeh... here's the site where i got this idea anyway. visit it if you have time.http://www.poligriplawsui ts.com

Looking for help... I had my uppers pulled and a plate put in. I am new to this and it has been 2 days now. I am really sore and miss eating. I know it will take me a few weeks to be able to eat like I use to. But what about the pain. I am thinking about using some type of dental pain reliever like orgel. Can I put this on my gums? I know I have to be careful where the stitchs are would this be a good thing to use? Also would polygrip or any of those other things help with the pain? Please someone respond...

Mary, I don't know about Oragel. Some people have posted about using Benzodent.
Are you doing warm salt water rinses? Try some Advil if you're not allergic.

Mary, I don't have the answer to that. I wasn't supposed to take mine out until I saw the dentist after the oral surgeon extracted them, which was supposed to be the next day but ended up three days later because of the weather. I did salt water rinses with it in until I saw him and then took it out to do them. Seems to me it would be better to do it without them. If he told you you could take them out, I would do it without.

Salt water with them out. And take it easy .. do not swish the water or you will risk disturbing your clotting. This is assuming you have had your denture out already.
I am surprised that you weren't prescribed a pain reliever ..... but many people use Tylenol or similar and have a lot of success.
Orajel has worked for some people and the Benzodent too .... most of this is just pretty normal and just takes time ....
I hope a virtual hug will help for now.
