I've had my dentures for a bit over 10 years....they were always a very good fit and still are ...they have never been replaced.. I am not a big meat eater so I don't worry about that ...if I do eat steak I make it small bites...I learned right away I couldn't eat caramel ;) but that was OK. I have never had to use any kind of bond to hold them in place..Maybe I just ended up with a great dentist...I don't know.
The only problen I have is trying to get them as white as they used to be...I've been told they have nothing on the market to get them as white as they were when new.

If I could coose and be 25 again I'd go with the
implants...I know nothing about the wire ones

I have just had part acrylic dentures on four front teeth that i had extracted, I managed it without sedation, the pain has been very little and chewing is just taking some pratice, lol. At first I was worried as it seemed to shift when i tried to bite, but doesnt seem so bad now. At long last i have my smile back and my confidence (im only 25). Im now considering implants or a denture held by wire, so no pink bit on the roof of my mouth, which i dont like too much. anyone else had these wire ones??

Well here's my story. I am on day 4 of having my upper teeth pulled. I was told to leave my dentures in for 24 hours before removing them, and only to rinse my mouth with salt water and to rinse my teeth, and then put them back in again. I did this and then as the day passed my teeth began to bother me, they slipped at the front and when I would push them up they would slip at the back. By that night I was in so much pain that I took them out again and rinsed my mouth with salt water once more...but when I went to put them back in the pain was so bad I couldn't get them back in, so I put them in the pink cup and left them out and went to bed. When I got up in the morning I tried to put them in again and they wouldn't fit--they fell right down. I have to go to my Dentist today for adjustments and I hope I haven't ruined it for myself by not wearing my dentures for the last 2 days. Oh, and I absolutely hate the feeling of the detures in my mouth...they feel awful, I have a high palate and it feels like my dentures aren't that high and my tongue is being crowded and I keep gagging when I swallow. Please tell me others have felt this way too, that this feeling will pass, because otherwise I'm afraid that I will be toothless in Canada. Right now I'm feeling as though getting my teeth pulled was the worse thing I've ever done.

Deb, that feeling will pass but it will take time.
I remember feeling the same as you are.

I will admit when Im home alone I like to keep my bottoms out. I find a big difference between the top and bottom. Once I got used to them Ive never had a problem with them....I do hear not everyone is so lucky...Good Luck ;)

I have been wearing dentures for 37 years. It has been a nightmare. I am getting a new set from someone claiming to be a Cosmetic Dentist. Do your homework. I didn't and am paying the price. My research has shown that we should be able to select any color, shape and size as we have to live with the results. I have joined a support group for denture wearers. It is a MSN group called Dentures A New Smile. On DANS, you will see it all and learn that you are not alone. Many are facing the same daily challenges. It is harder for some to come to terms with loosing their teeth. Most of us are the only one in our family or friends that have this problem and they can't understand it. People that say get over it, haven't been in our shoes.

I'll share my horror story too. I had full extraction a month ago, 2 implants put in on the bottom. Everything has healed very well (I'm 24), the surgeon and dentist both impressed. They told me yesterday I can use adhesive now no problem. I tried it out today (small dabs!) and while it was holding really well (wore off on the bottoms quickly, guess a little more next time) I couldn't even bite through a piece of thick-sliced pepperoni (running low on real food here since I haven't been able to eat any). The dentures just dug awkwardly into me and caused a lot of pain. I just feel it's ridiculous at this point, I can't even eat pasta!(Believe me I try, and I love pasta so that'd help out my spirits a lot) I'm just wiped of energy all the time (and awful cranky), sore spots popping up everywhere and been having adjustments every 2 days.

I keep hoping it will get better, but after each adjustment and each day I just lose more and more faith that things will get better. If you read through this, thanks for listening to me rant.

Let me tell you.. I am 55, and after years of expense and discomfort with the dentures I had implants done on the top last year. It is the best move I ever made. I can eat and chew anything, no more sores or slipage, and they look great. I'm no millionaire either..... I financed them through a company most dentist participate in.. I think their name was Caremark? just look up dental financing. You don't need the best of credit either.
Just if you do it research the implant dentists well, and make sure they have plenty of experience. I had the newer mini implants done..... They are done and in within about 2-3 weeks, not 6 months or so as with the older proceedure.
I found out that the reason most dentures need constant refitting is because your bone continues to shrink.. not so with the implants.
I wish you all luck!

Its been almost 6 days now and I got to say the pain is getting much better. I have eaten a little bit today. I have found that the hardest part. I think its going to take a bit of getting use to but in the long run all will be ok. I do love my new teeth. Wish everybody luck.

Hi everyone! Had my 17 teeth pulled on Wednesday. Came out of the anesthesia like a trooper and didn't gag. Thank goodness for that. My immediate uppers feel ok. I do have some sore spots that I use Ambesol on. My lower dentures are impossible. They are way to big and I will have to get them adjusted on Monday. They keep wanting to fall out. Looks like my bottom mouth is way too crowded, and my lower lip sticks out. I pray that this is something that can be fixed. Other than that, I feel very tired and my mouth is sore. Probably because I have felt pretty decent and I'm like a motor mouth. Tonight I think I will give my mouth a break and keep dentures soaking overnight..........

Holly I was told its not a good idea to keep them out over night for at least 6 months till your mouth heals. I'm still in alot of pain not as bad as the first week. I'v been able to eat alittle more now but still find it hard to chew. I have to go back tomorrow for a adjustment seen I have a few white spots on my gums. But as each day goes bye things seem to be getting better I wish everybody luck.

I went to the denture place today. They did a softline and my goodness what a difference. They had to shave down my immediate dentures quite a bit as they were so big and loose. Then they put in the softliner and it feels as though they put silk on my gums. Let me tell you, if you have immediates, don't delay in getting those liners. It's amazing the difference. The dentist told me to keep my dentures in for at least 10 days before I take them out at night. He did say that if I am that uncomfortable, I can take them out for the night. Chewing is very difficult at this time, I try to do as little as possible of that, until my gums toughen up.

Steve, You have had full dentures for a WHOLE 5 MONTHS, WOW, you are an expert. Don't give false hope it helps no one. Give it some time before you tell people they are full of it. You have a lot to learn, GEEZ!!!!

I am 73 years young and have spent tons
of money over the years to save may teeth.

Finally with a top and bottom partial with
to few teeth left to support them I settled
a couple of days ago for immediates.
12 teeth had to be removed which took a couple
of hours with local anesthesia (novicain).
That part was not bad, but now 2 days later, putting the dentures in or out is not very plesant. I found the less painful was to
place both top and bottom slowly into place
by applying slow even pressure on them.

I checked with my dentist about Benzodent and
he said to come back in a few more days so he could check the healing process before
giving his ok to use it.
Has anyone used this Benzodent, if so, does
it help relieve denture pain when putting dentures in or out.

You should ask your dentist to put in softliners. My goodness, what a difference it makes. Just like satin on your gums. I'm getting my second softline next Friday. As the gums heal, they shrink, making the dentures flip flop. I'm not sure if you could use the Benzodent so short a time after the extractions, because there are still holes. I just started using a drop of it and its been 3 weeks since my extractions. Really, get a softliner. Should be included in the price of your immediates.

hang in there people as time goes on things do get better. I'm able to eat and chew almost anything now with little or no trouble. My dentures are loose but I use a little pit of poly grip and all is well. I wish all luck.

Well I gagged for that too!:> I don't gagg easily!:> THe problem for me was the stuff completely filled my mouth to the point where the stuff began to wrap around gagger;> Once I was able to get it off with my toungue, I was fine! as for my dentures 10 days now, havn'g gagged once, never while putting them in, or while taking them out. I hear that some people feel the urge though and that it goes away with Time and perserverence! talk to your dentist if your worried though!:>

Hi everyone. Let me say that today was a horror. I went to get my immediate full set of dentures for after my surgery on Nov 21st. I gagged so bad and nearly puked on the Dr. It was horrible. What I would like to know is this. When they put in the immediate dentures after the surgeon pulls the 17 teeth I have left in my mouth, will I be gagging from the immed. dentures when I wake up from surgery? I need an honest answer because I am seriously thinking I just wasted money for this........I hate gagging..........
