Home treatment for Dandruff without the use of shampoos?

Ive been suffering for Dry scalp and flaky dandruff for a year now and have tried most of the shampoos in market. The result? These shampoos manage to get rid of some of dandruff but not all - and only for 2- 3 - days. After a few days of using anti dandruff shampoo, the dandruff seems to grow back.
Now, I recently came across this home remedy for Dandruff that is
Mixing Soda of bicarbonate in water + Apple cider vinegar
can help in dandruff treatment. There are quite a few positive user reviews on this method but after a little more digging I came across a few articles and youtube videos that it is actually harmful for hair in long term.
Id like to know if the method mentioned above is safe for hair? At the moment, my first priority is to get rid of these flakes from my hair - next priority would be soft hair.
Any other home treatments I should know about??
