I never had a constipation problem in my life. Then four months ago, following a barium upper GI test, I was unable to have a bowel movement. After ten days I went to the ER to check whether there was hardened barium left in my intestines, but nothing showed up on the x-rays. I took every kind of laxative and nothing worked. Neither did prune juice or added fiber. After two weeks of being constipated, I started doing enemas at least three to four times a week and am able to eliminate only small amounts of diarrhea. Because of that I'm eating a lot less and rapidly losing weight, which I can't afford to lose because I was underweight to begin with. Two months ago I had a colonoscopy, but nothing abnormal was found--aside from a dilated colon caused by the constipation. I've been to several doctors and all they do is recommend laxatives or a change of diet. I'm convinced that something is seriously wrong with my colon--it feels like a blockage, but nothing shows up on the tests. I am bloated, nauseous, tired and full of gas most of the time. Regular enemas are screwing up my electrolytes and leaving my brain in a fog. My condition is making me seriously depressed. I want to escape this hell, I want my life back, but I can't find seem to find one decent doctor to help me! Any ideas?

Little Linda Pinda, the most recent doctor I saw was a proctologist. He didn't find any blockage in my rectum, which was no surprise, since the obstruction that I feel is higher up in the colon. He offered the usual irrelevant advice about adding more fiber, prune juice etc. to my diet. What he and the GI specialist I saw failed to grasp is that I do not have normal constipation, but a colon that does not function properly. And yes I am aware of the dangers of enemas and laxatives. But for the past four months, the ONLY way I can eliminate is with an enema. So if I don't use enemas, I don't eat. And if I don't eat, I starve. Pure and simple.

I am still pursuing help, but I'm finished with conventional doctors. With very few exceptions, they are arrogant and narrow-minded, and have nothing to offer but bad advice, drugs and surgery. In my case they have done me more harm than good. From now on, I am placing my faith in alternative practitioners, who as a whole are far more imaginative than the quack MD's.

I've had similar problems for the past 5 months, I just finished college and was about to finally start continuing my life, then bam. I think I've successfully diagnosed myself with Crohns disease, since I don't have a family doctor and the doctors at the ER seemingly don't know what the flying **** they're doing. They thought I had a kidney stone. Honestly. What the hell. It would be nice to start treatment once they admit something might actually be wrong, like suffering 100% of the many symptoms of a few chronic diseases.

Constipated from 4months please try to change your diet immediately and please consult to doctor as soon as possible. Constipation for 4months it’s not at all good it really make you sick. Meanwhile try to intake fiber, fruits and vegetables. And drink at least 2-3 liters of water per day. And be active in physical exercise. You might be not eating right food at right time consult a dietitian he/she suggest you exact range of intake.

Hello Joe.. Just come out of depression and concentrate on our diet. If you have the habit of taking fast and processed foods you should avoid those foods.Add fiber foods, vegetables, fruits and salads to your diet. Prunes, papaya, legumes, flax seeds and brown rice are rich in fiber and helpful for colon cleansing. Drink more water and regular exercises also helpful to get out of this situation. If these are ineffective you should consult your doctor.

As above xanmurphy suggested you some fruits help to relief constipation problem and given you some useful information. Additionally add some fruits which help to relief constipation problem. Vegetables are also useful sources to providing a healthy dose of dietary fiber: Artichoke hearts, asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, green beans, peas and squash.

WE FOUND A CURE FOR US!!!
stop taking Benadryl, or any sleep aid containing it!! My wife went through the exact same thing since June of this year. That’s the last bowel movement she had, until 2 weeks ago. She could not push or force anything out, no control at all, it was like she was paralyzed inside or something. She went to the Dr. several times since beginning of August. X-rays and a colonoscopy, nothing wrong they said. Extreme bloating, laxative every day, stool softeners, fiber pills, fiber mixes, more water, less food, enemas!! Finally was totally exhausted. Tried to make any correlation to a change in diet or something. Remembered that my wife began a nightly dose of sleep aid. We began to research the ingredients and looked up "Diphenhydramine". Commonly known as Benadryl. This is what Wiki says: is a potent anticholinergic agent. This activity is responsible for the side-effects of dry mouth and throat, increased heart rate, pupil dilation, urinary retention, constipation, and, at high doses, hallucinations or delirium. She immediately quit the sleep aid and 3 days later she had a bowel movement on her own. Anticholinergics inhibit parasympathetic nerve impulses by selectively blocking the binding of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to its receptor in nerve cells. The nerve fibers of the parasympathetic system are responsible for the involuntary movement of smooth muscles present in the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, lungs, In other words this stuff puts your dookie muscles asleep, for a lack of a better term. Now were two weeks into a normal life of bowel movements, not 100% regular, probable about high 80s, anything is better that 0% and a terrible feeling of knowing something’s wrong but can’t find any answers. Mybe this will help someone.

I had this problem for about a month anda half. I just kept telling myself that I would go bit never did. Finally, after small deposited for a week, I went.

What I did was, I took a stool softener before bed and drank a couple of glasses of water after it. The next morning, I took a long and relaxing shower to unstress. After that, I did a little yoga to open upmy hips and get my abdomenin moving.

Sitting still for too long (talking weeks of just watching TV, eating, bathing) can make the muscles in your intestines weak. Relaxing and stretching daily can do wonders.
