US patent application published on Sept. 20, 2012 – Described the application of LINE-1 methylation level as a marker for the diagnosis of early-onset colorectal cancer (CRC). LINE-1 methylation levels in tumors derived from two independent cohorts of early-onset CRC were significantly lower compared with older-onset CRCs and Lynch syndrome tumors. LINE-1 hypomethylation levels were similar in older-onset sporadic MSI tumors, Lynch syndrome CRCs and sporadic MSS tumors.
