Asacol works... for maintenance. I am 23 and in dental school, and let me tell you, the stress does not help this disease. Last time i had a flare up I used the Elimination Diet. It actually worked very well. It says to do it for 2 weeks, but since mine is so bad, i did it for a month before i started adding foods back in. it helped for awhile, until i started eating bad foods again, and now the stress is just to overwhelming. anyway, try this diet. hopefully it will help you too. http://www.drcranton.com/elimination_diet.htm

Hello everyone. I too suffer from Sever Ulcerative Colitis at the age of 20. Would anyone know of a good diet or a better way to subdue the pain i go through with each movement? Does anyone know if asacol (MESALAMINE) is a good antiinflammatory drug for this crap. Thanks.

My mom and I have been doing a lot of research lately. The "brain fog" that we all experience is due to a lack of all of the B vitamins and vitamin K.

ive been working with biofeedback to try and cure this brain fog. 6 weeks and so far its almost gone. a bit more then ill be working on my anxiety. should be finished in about 2 more months. but without a doubt if i dont follow a stricted meat and eggs diet a terrible form a brain fog appears but vanishes when i go back to the diet now, thanks to the biofeedback. its worth every dollar.

here is a discussion of a person who cured there own ulcerative colitis in 24hrs thats definately worth reading about.
kinda scary taking matters into your own hands if anyone does this and becomes cured please tell me about it. good luck.
That certainly is frightening, but if it works ... more power to them. I wonder if there are more of folks that have had a positive outcome with this practice.

My ulcerative colitis has reduced drastically by following the proper diet and vitamin E Enema Procedure as suggested by 'Sheldon Gesensway'. His email id [email protected] can be found from one of the post - http://www.curezone.com/forums/fm.asp... . You can get more information from curezone.com - just type 'vitamin e enema' in the forum search and read any post by Sheldon.
The following is the information we got from Sheldon:(Please be advised that some information may be repetative)
1.Buy a 4" bulb end ear syringe the kind used to clean an ear.A plastic extention is not necessary.. Pictured on google in IMAGES section .Type in ear syringe for a picture.
Day 1- empty 2
capsules of vitamin E into 1.5 tablespoons of distilled water (the same volume as a corticoid enema) 800 I U total. Do this by sticking a pin into a capsule and squeeze out the contents. Suck up the mixture (it does not dissolve in the water). I used a small tapered wine glass. 1.5 tablespoons water for all capsule levels. Use as an enema but RETAIN the mixture. Only one enema a day is necessary.
3. On the second day empty 4 capsules and repeat the same procedure.
4.On the third day, empty 6 capsules and repeat the same procedure.
5. On the 4th day empty 8 capsules repeat.
Up to this point I received no visible results.
6.On the 5th day, empty 10 capsules thatís 4000 I U of vitamin E. The following morning was the first time I saw stool form since I could remember. No blood.
Controlled bowel movements. Ulcerative colitis was no longer a problem. I will advise the best procedure at this point.
I had to repeat this every day for a long time or on the 2nd day the gut would revert to its old habits. No side effects. Take the enema after a bowel movement and if possible at bedtime or in the morning and continue to lie on your side a while to give the enema a chance to circulate through out the colon.
If at first you lose some material, donít worry you will get enough of the vitamin E to work. I kept telling the doctors at the hospital they kept smiling. Stay at the 10 capsule doses then let me know of your results and I will advise you further.
Since that time, the ulcerative colitis has never been a problem. MY RECORDS SHOW THIS.
The vitamin E mixture used should be labeled 100% all- natural and have the formula d-alpha tocopherol with other mixed natural tocopherols and NOT dl-alpha tocopheryl that is synthetic. Just 10% natural and 90% synthetic can be sold as natural vitamin E. Synthetic vitamin E is not is not very biologically active and will give a poor result if used.
I have never taken another enema or ANY medication. At that time, I was also taking one multi vitamin& mineral table+ 500 mg of vitamin C + one capsule of 400 I U vitamin E. I stopped the vitamin E soon after. I even bought a motorcycle and put 15,000 miles on it. Remember I am only relating the facts of my experience and will be willing to answer your questions.
Please advise me of your results so it can be of help to others. No fruit or fruit juice. Follow the diet.
Right after a bowel movement or before bedtime is the best time to use the enema for that day. Lay on your side with knees drawn up for easy insertion remain on that side for 5 minutes than lay on your back and the opposite side for 5 minutes each.
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Do not rinse the bulb after use and just clean the outside with soap and water. You can spread a small amount of food grade vegetable oil or petroleum jelly around the tip for a comfortable insertion. Let comfort be your guide.

Nobody is forcing us to eat it. There is enough good, real food...fruits, veggies, meats out there we can eat instead, but it is a matter of convenience these days. It takes longer to prepare "real" food. Saying all that, there are too many pesticides, antibiotics fed into our "real" food as well. David, have you tried eliminating certain foods to see if you got a positive response? I highly recommend something like the SCD. I am now "healed?" from following an antifungal diet, similar to SCD. Many have tried it and gotten better. There must be "something" to it....
What is SCD????

No, I cannot tolerate anything with yeast. So, no bread unless it is yeast free. Anything else I eat now, but sugar and grains I restrict/limit. I also take natural antifungals for maintenance.
Hi Mickey - My dad has very bad UC and is gluten intolerant too. Are you healed from this decease?? If so, please help??? Thanks, Lana

Hello all, I've been away for awhile. Just read the latest posts. Yes, my UC symptoms are gone now. Healed? Dunno. That would indicate my UC will never come back. I was shown the path to take to get well again, and it is up to me to choose to follow it. I eliminated all sugar, grains and processed foods, took natural antifungals and within days I was dramatically better.(BTW,a poster wanted to know what SCD is. SCD is The Specific Carbohydrate Diet from a book called Braking The Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gotschall, who helped her daughter recover from Crohn's.)My life saving info came from a man named Doug Kaufmann, website: www.knowthecause.com
He has done much research on fungus and has written many books that indicate fungus is implicated in many of our diseases. If you have ever taken antibiotics even as a child, steroids or birth control pills, you may have a fungal condition. If you want to email me for more info and my experience, I will reply with the diet recommended and natural antifungals recommended. It really doesn't do it justice to explain the fungal etiology of UC in a brief email, that's why you might consider buying the book "The Fungus Link" volume 1 from Doug's website, or finding it at your library, if possible. I realize some people may not have the same response to the diet as I did, but I have been in contact with many whom it did help. Also, another good forum with many helpful and friendly people is www.healingwell.com . On there I am "kim123" and you can search my postings for other info as well. Take care all. Email me if you like at [email protected]

What about all this business about genetic engineering?
Do you reckon anything will come from this research, except finding something new to excite the scientist?

This is pathetic, all these young people that are supposed to be healthy with these dreaded intestinal disorders. I think we all need to start standing up and fighting for our rights and make the government accountable for their steady supply of polluted food that wasn't made to be eaten by most people.
Refined foods should be illegal, it's a friggin joke. I hate the US government and Canada's is no better. Europe is the closest thing to paradise in this world, we should take a look in the mirror and change our ways of thinking.
I hate most doctors, they are scum just like lawyers and used car salesmen. lol
Anyways I have not provided any beneficial advise to any with UC but I have this "BLOODY" disease too and it sucks. 25 yrs old and already diseased.
What a joke, if any of you useless politicians read this I hope you can sleep at night knowing your leading the future generations into a plethora of DISEASE!
Oh wait you're probably snoring/relaxed because you have plenty of Oil/energy stocks.
i too am 25 and sick and tired of the governments standards to colitis. "we don't know where it came from, we can't give you health insurance even though you can work, sorry no disability benefits" i say to them, fuck you! i send them the colitis curse! ;p

anyone got advice on how to put on weight while on the SCD? I've been on the diet for 3 months and not sure if its working. I've lost over a stone in weight and its slowly but surely dropping further. should i be symptom free at this stage? I'm trying to eat as much as I can and eat lots of meat, butter, avocadoes and cheese but i can't build up. I'd also be interested to know if anyone has tried the chinese herbal medicines Jianpiling or Jian Pi Wan?? Grateful for any advice. Thanks, Andrew.

I've been taking asacol for about a year. They say if you have moderate UC its supposed to be great. Unfortunatly it just hasnt cut it for me. I just started an immuno-suppressant drug. The kind they give to cancer patients. I have had UC since Jan of 04 and have only had 3 months of remission the whole time. I hope it goes better for you.
