Hi! I used to have really bad acne and paid most of my attention and money prevented acne but little that i know under my upper lip were coldsores white spots all over. I didn't notice it until i put on my braces and the mental kinda push the inside of upper lip out when I try to show my teeth.

I try Abreva but it only prevents the coldsores and so far did not make the old ones go away.

How can I make these go away for good? Should I try the last resort of peeling skin like my acne case?

Thank you.

I never had a cold sore until about 6 years ago. I somehow had cut the right corner of my mouth and ate something salty. Didn't realize the cut until my mouth started swelling, itching and burning which in turn developed into a cold sore. Since then, I have always gotten it once a year in the exact same spot and always in the cooler season. It is never directly on my lips, only in the corner of my mouth which takes it longer to heal because you eat, brush your teeth and talk so any scab that forms will always break. Does any body have any suggestions on how to quickly treat them once they've bubbled or bursted. If I catch it early enohg, zilactin-L from an drug store usually prevents it from getting noticable.

I always also get more than one cold sore at a time, always around the lip area, I get it so severely though because I was diagnosed with herpes when I was ten, obviously not the sexually transmitted one. I used to get them every 2 months as a kid, I am 18 now and get them whenever I am sick, have pimples on the side of my mouth or when I travel because I'm a nervous traveller. I actually have one right now and am looking for a different cure because after a while the cold sores get used to the remedies...
Here are the remedies I have been using since I was ten - If you go to your doctor when the cold sores starts up they usually won't mind giving you a vitamin C shot, I used to get two, that also prevents it for a while. Ask your doctor for a prescription of lysine pills, they dry out the cold sore and makes it go away faster. I have tried all kinds of creams but the cream that works the BEST is zovirax, in South Africa and France you can't buy the cream over the counter you need a prescription for that too. Recently a friend told me to dab a bit of surgical spirits on the cold sores because that dries them out too, do this before you put your cream on, because you are using the surgical spirits your skin with be a bit flaky in that area after the cold sores are gone, but just moisturise you're skin...
All of these worked brilliantly but sadly over time, because I get the cold sores so frequently have stopped working for me.
I don't go to school when I get the cold sores, I use those few days for myself, to make me happy...this also helps mentally.
Eat healthy and I have been told to avoid eating anything citrus while having the cold sores, I would recommend that too.
As for cold sores that won't go away...you have to go see a dermatologist or your doctor!!

I dont get cold sores much anymore, only because i really do try to prevent getting them. i have tried everything and cannot find away to make them heal faster. but i found many different ways of preventing them. Stay away from Orange Juice, tomatoe soup: citric acid will form a reason, brush your teeth often: to keep ur mouth cool and clean. use ice to take away the swelling. if you have a cut in your mouth or chapped lips, rinse your mouth with salt water. rub salt on your lower, inside lip and rinse. i know salt can be bad for you, but if you eat salty foods it will save you from getting one. i hate them!

I have found the best way to make the sores go quickly is getting a cotton ball and putting nail polish remover on it. Hold it there on and off for an hour. it will dry it out. Never try popping them with a pin they will spread or cause an infection. The nail polish remover will dry it up and will help it to burst on its own. The fluid inside will stay on the cotton ball instead of going all over. After this get peroxide and dab it on the sore. This will help it not get infected. you can use something to put on top like abreva to top it off or mix a peroxide and salt paste and place it on it. Trust me your sore will be gone in a few days. i know the nail polish remover sound weird but it works!! its burns but if you want it gone bad enough you'll do it Good luck :0)

Yes, best way to treat them is definatly Valtrex. However it is very expensive. Try icing x2 --> Popping --> Dabbing with Hydrogen Peroxyde x5 --> when scabbed tea bag x3.

I have tried a lot of thing to get rid of my cold sores, most of them worked, but not as quickly as I had hoped. I searched online for a while and found a product that really does get rid of cold sores quick, and I haven't had one since I started using it.(2 years) You can find out more about it at www.remediesforcoldsore.com

I used to get cold sores ALL the time. After getting over one i'd almost instantly start developing another, so I'd get like six or seven, one after the other! it was really frustrating.

I tried everything I could think of or anything i could get my hands on: zovirax cream and tablets, lysine tablets, etc. i even saw a dermatologist who proscribed valtrex tablets for genital herpes because I was such an extreme case.

a friend of mine recommended carmex lip balm. i was skeptical because i thought if harsh drugs weren't helping then a $4 lip balm probably wouldn't help. the next time i felt a cold sore coming on and saw redness i applied carmex generously to the entire area (including the skin around my lip). i kept applying it on the hour and the next day it was GONE.

the key is discovering the main cause of your cold sore. look for patterns. going out into rough weather conditions turned out to be the cause of mine. i'd get really bad wind burn and the next thing I knew my lip would go all red (where the cold sore usually appears). applying the carmex treats the windburn and stops the cold sore in its tracks.

however if you get cold sores when you're stressed you might need to deal with the problem internally - try relaxation combined with valtrex or zovirax tablets.

I really hope this helps someone! I know how frustrating cold sores can be - they're extremely debilitating because you're too self-conscience to go out. my advice is to try EVERYTHING, even if you're skeptical, and don't rule anything out! good luck!!!

Holy crap! There is so much stuff out there. I've tried everything, zovirax, petroleum based fluids, alcohol, ice, pills al kinds of stuff and all it does is makes it hurt like hell.
What I do know as a preventer is avoiding chocolate, getting run down and eating well. The most effective things I have used to prevent coldsores is taking vitamin pills like Berocca fizzies. The vitamin B in them seems to keep the virus at bay. If I feel one coming on I overdose with Lysine. I take the 1000mg pills, 2 x 3 daily. If it still comes along then I now apply a all natural treatment. This stuff has been way more effective for me then the other treatments I have tried. go to www.dynamiclearcoldsorerid.com and have a look.
its got to be better then nail pollish!

I've been getting cold sores for as long as I can remember. Mine are usually caused by stress or too much direct sunlight. Honestly, I've tried EVERYTHING, from Valtrex to Abreva to Carmex, and everything in between. The only thing I've found that cuts my healing time in half is nail polish remover. I know some people on these message boards have said not to use it, but it really works for me. However, it only works when used in the scabbing phase, don't use it when you feel a tingle or in the blister phase. I just get a q-tip, soak it in nail polish remover, and press it on the sore for a long as I can stand it. It will burn a little and slightly hurt, but that's how you know it's working and it's drying up the sore. For swelling, I always grab an ice pack for an hour, then switch to a hot washcloth for an hour. It will help with the swelling. One thing I can recommend NOT doing is putting apple cider vinegar on it. I read somewhere online to try it on a cold sore and it made my entire lip on huge blister. When it comes to vinegar, proceed with caution!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who suffers from these nasty little suckers!

Have you tried any natural alternative cold sore remedies? Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera are excellent for the cold sores. I would also look at your diet as this may be playing a significant part in your acne and sores. Check out the following site, really helps me.

I dont know if this will work for you but I would get one in the fall and one in the spring every year for probably 6 years. I just thought it was something I'd deal with for ever. I tried abreva too but it was white and painful to rub in when they were huge and it still took like 3 weeks. I know this will sound gross but I used something called Toe Juice and it killed the first one in a week. Then i didnt get one the next spring. I did get one the next fall but once again only a week. I havent had one since and that was last july. Good luck

You need to try a lot of different things until you figure out what works with your body. Try taking a l-lysine supplement or using another product other than Abreva. Just need to see what responds well

I would also recommend to watch what you eat. Especially salty or acidic foods. Foods containing vitamins E, C, and A can help prevent sores from developing. There are a lot of treatments and It is indeed verd hard to choose wich one is the best. Amino acids have been proven as one of the most successful treatments for a cold sore, because they inhibit the reproduction of the virus that causes it. Amino acids can be found in red meat, eggs, dairy, fish, and brewerÂ’s yeast. As a natural remedy for cold sore, concentrated amino acids can also be taken as a supplement or applied directly to sores as a topical ointment to get rid of cold sores fast.
