Around two months ago, I had my usual "I'll be back!" Cold Sore (my husband calls it). It often shows up above the same exact corner of my mouth. Without fail, it would reveal its ugly head whenever I was stressed, getting sick, not getting enough sleep, etc.

I tried over-the-counter creams and ointments without having lasting results. I finally read a well being write-up in one ezine category that recommended a useful web site that tells you about safe products you'll find in your kitchen that can treat cold sores. I've tried 4 of the advised household remedies and so far 3 of them have worked excellent in preventing or helping my cold sore disappear in just about three days. Some of these household items include tea bags, toothpaste, ice, and lysine. But I discovered that it is not merely the product, but how you apply it, what time of day, and how often. That was the whole difference for me. I found the link for the cold sore page in my bookmarks:

I would recommend trying one remedy at a time so you know which ones work for you and eliminate those which don't.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil works WONDERS. I ran out of Abreva and had some OVCO in the house. I put it on, and while my cold sore still developed, this time it wasn't as bad. So I continued to put it on. Itching stopped. Burning sensation stopped. It never got bigger. Two days later and it's gone. I'm amazed. I'm never using anything else again. This is the only thing that has helped with the discomfort and helped the sore go down in record time. Had I applied it during the FIRST sign that I was getting a cold sore, it may not have developed at all.

I have used every possible treatment under the sun.. some worked o.k., most were useless. Best thing I have found so far is . clears them up and they don't come back if you remember to apply the lip balm 4x per day.

i have used banadyne-3 for years and as soon as you feel one may be coming up you apply the banadyne3 and generally it will not surface. if it does it helps the healing process speed up greatly. however, i cannot find who is selling the product now.

i got one last night/this morning and I rubbed salt on it then put a tea bag in boiling water, left it to cool and held that on the site for like an hour. It made it smaller and flatter instantly but it's back to its usual size :( needs to be gone by tomorrow!!!!

I only had a cold sore last week and woke up this morning with another two massive creatures on my top and bottom lip. I always use carmex and they usually disappear within 7 days, however I need a quick fix this week - any suggestions?

I know this comes a lttle late for you, but perhaps another CS sufferer may find it useful. I have had cold sores since I was a kid. My mom and siblings get them often too. poor luck/genes? I get them at least once a year... SUCKS!

I started using Lysine about 15 years ago and it has helped in preventing a cold sore at the tingling feeling many many times. After many years though it seems you have to take a LOT more, like your body builds an immunity to it.

Last year I broke out in a cold sore while I was asleep (sneaky evil B@stards >) and had an important event coming up. I searched and searched the internet and found a site where people were talking about Bactine (the first aid antiseptic as drug stores) It contains 2.5% Lidocaine that is found in $30 tubes of perscription medicines for Herpes outbreaks. So I went to CVS and found some for $5.99. I reapplied it all day and in 3 days it was just a red mark on my face!!! I also took about 5000 miliigrams of Lysine a day for those 3 days (you can get that anywhewre now)

SOooo... I got really sunburned a few days ago on my face (i used sunscreen!) and my whole upper lip felt itchy and tingly last night. I saw it coming :( This is going to be really bad! Probably the worst yet :'( I have a concert coming up in a couple days and I will see lots of people I know there (I live in a small state)

I have 2 days!!! thats today and tomorrow! Heres what Im doing and Ill let you know how it turns out...

Last night I took 10,000 ml of Lysine (remember, I have to take a lot now) and got up this morning with it still red and itchy and a little swollen. I took another 5000 ml. this morning then I ran to the store and baught more Bactine and a bottle of SUPER LYSINE (which has echinacea , garlic, licorice root, and vitamin C added) It says serving size is 3... I took 8-10. I never saw this stuff before :)

I have been icing it for an hour (which never worked for me before but I keep seeing success stories with it so I figured I should try. I also used a cloth that was sprayed with Bactine to hold the ice pack. I took it off for a minute and it burns so i keep putting it back on. I will work at this for 2 days!!

read all these waste of time cooments, best way to rid a cold sore is to get 100g of salt add a drip or two of clean water to it and rub onto cold sore for about 5mins....get the tip of your finger and drip a splash of vinegar on it and dab it on to cold sore....immediate result cold sore gone!

I tried the salt and vinegar trick and it worked pretty well! I used a Q-tip to rub and hold the salt/water on the cold sore for about 7 mins. Then I used another Q-tip to rub on the vinegar. I held the vinegar on the CS for awhile, maybe 10 mins. I saw a huge difference. But then I thought it would help even more if I put ice on it, it made it go back to what it was like in the beginning. so DO NOT ICE IT! But overall I think if I keep pressing on some salt on vinegar, it should be gone by tomorrow!
