Dear Cal, I warmly suggest you to stop taking this drug, because
it's proved to harm your internal organs parmanetly. Your lifestyle change is sufficient enough. Cost-benefit analysis for Tricor is bad
and most of its harmful effects are hidden.

213, are you kidding. Anything less than 300 is very good. Tricor is giving your MD trips to write those Rxs. Taht's for people 400-600 and above. I have 330 and happy. Please, what is your 213 secret?

I agree, get off those meds. I had a tryglyceride score of 335 last june of 09, I had it taken back at the end of January, it is now 185. All I did, was eat healthier, cut back on alcohol, exercise and take fish oil. I am confident I can get it below 150 If I keep on doing what I am doing.

Too low? The reports I get from blood draws are the very extensive kind and they always show a single limit, typically <150. I'd always had fairly high TG until I gave up carbs. I got a very abrupt drop from 250-300 down to 65. It varies with time, but is typically less than 100. My MD sources all think that this is unequivocally great. Of course, dropping carbs also caused me to drop 35 pounds over 18 months and 5 years later I'm still at the same low weight (BMI of 23). No diet, no counting calories, no eating every four hours, nothing. Eat when I'm hungry, eat as much as I want always, just don't eat carbs. Also, my LDL particle size went from mixed AB to extremely large fluffy A (that's extremely good).

Reading the other battles with high TG I want to share a discussion I had with Mason W. Freeman, a Harvard MD who wrote a publication about "What to do about High Cholesterol". It is my opinion that there are many errors in the publication, so I wrote to him. One of the points I made was that even though the book says "Elevated triglycerides are an independent risk factor for heart disease, with VLDL the most likely target for lipid-lowering therapy..." and proposes various causes and some actions to lower TG, it never mentions carbohydrate restriction. His response was:

I wrote a whole book on lipid disorders and in it I very specifically talk
about the fact that lower carbohydrate diets work to lower TGs. The
special report is a much shorter publication and a lot of material in my
book had to be omitted. I am sorry if we left that out because it is
important for people with high TGs to know that.

I guess he thinks it is more important for people to know about drug treatment than simply not eating carbs. Of course this book continues to be sold with this omission. Given how dramatic my drop was I find it irresponsible to suggest meds without first trying low carb.

I am a bit "more than concerned" about taking Tricor! I began at a lower dose and all was OK. The numbers he said were higher when checked after about a year so he increased tricor to 145mg. I noticed at beginning the 145 mg dose that I had problems. The one that concerns me mostly is what the Gastro doc diagnosed as more than likely ischemic colitis. I ended up in the hospital. Now, I'm getting red bruises on my hands. Why? Any ideas?

Hello. I just had a blood test and everything was normal, i.e. cholesteral count was 146 BUT the triclycerides count was 286. My microbiologist told me that I have been eating TOO MANY TOMATOES!!! As a matter of fact I did have a big tomatoe salad a day before this test. Triclycerides in tomatoes???
I was told to stop eating tomatoes and to repeat the test in one month. Does this seem logical to you?
