How immoral can America be?

Full story: www.finalcall.com

As they cry crocodile tears over “cholera in Zimbabwe,” the U.S. and her European Union and Australian allies see their plot to remove Pres. Mugabe from power gaining momentum. Make no mistake about it, the decline and erosion of Mugabe is the result of financial sanctions imposed by the West. Draconian Western acts that devastated Zimbabwe’s socio-economic structure, not Mugabe, caused the flight of doctors, nurses and other key sector workers.

That is nothing new. Puppet regimes is about 100% of Africa's problem, and when a leader wants to stand up for his people the sactions come on.

its called "Economic Hitman"
A former CIA agent wrote a book about it.
Its how America has military bases in so many countries. We starved Iraq dry after the first gulf war for years..mostly children died, bout half a million kids..

Its and old practice since the days of the Roman Empire.

How about America worry about helping it's own citizen's before giving to other countries. We already have the hugest deficit of all the other countries. I mean garsh! Canada at least gives their citizens free healthcare!

Seems like the US worries about helping other countries more than they do their own people

Non-military foreign aid given by the USA to underdeveloped nations is consistently LESS than that of the other developed nations, per capita.

There is plenty of evil in the world, and plenty of lust for power and wealth to rationalize it and motivate it.

The USA commits plenty of this evil. So do a lot of other governments and powers.

Within the USA, human rights are relatively good. But USA behavior abroad is not so good...

To me...America has become the very thing its' policy has set out to prevent (namely, Communism) in the name of Democracy. Sure, the idea of promoting the idea to one as their RIGHT TO CHOOSE appears humane, copacetic, innocuous to name a few adjectives, but the reality is that nothing can be further from the truth as long as dominate influence prevails in Africa as led by USA policy is concerned. Democracy is not based on ALTRUISM (atleast not this day and age), everything is determined by (1) domestic and international security and (2) and of course natural resources!

Sad. But its the reality. People fail to realize there was and has been collective efforts to undermine people.

Whether it was the USSR, or communist gov't, or Non-western gov'ts in the mideast, to African leaders that refuse to whore their country men and resources. They are dealth with.

How do you think we maintain this high standard of living? When Oil was going to get out of control what happened in the mideast? Oh a western power comes and occupies an oil rich country. Nothing new. They call it imperialism. Why don't you look up the total number of countries that have a US. military presence in them. Then ask yourself how it got to be that way?-points to Economic Hitman-

I can cite plenty of examples of Imperialism. Not including Iraq, or Iran...Open your eyes.

Gov'ts never exist to help people, rather to control them. Ever wonder why the founding fathers of the American constitution were so Anti-gov't. Nevermind they just fought against one of the most powerful monarchs in history...

The ideologies and labels are of limited use.

When the USSR existed, in many ways it could be said that the USA was in fact more socialist than the USSR, and the USSR more capitalist than the USA.

After WW2, it seemed that both the USSR and USA assimilated certain aspects of Nazi Germany...

What we need is for the system to be oriented toward justice and opportunity, and not privilege and power.

We all around the world seemingly live under the unwritten law of: MIGHT MAKES IT RIGHT or MILITARY MIGHT to be specific. After all, how much power does any nation in Africa possess? As I recall the movie BLOOD DIAMONDS, and the message that I came away with was that there is nothing more important than power, and if it means genocide has to be committed in order to maintain that power, so be it.

America falls for that loose adaptation of government as carried out in Africa every time, so as long as oil flow and transactions of gemstones are never interrupted. Because of our American government lackadaisical attitude towards life, I refuse to purchase diamonds of any cut, knowing that some poor soul has had his and her limbs cut off for the purpose of financing violence between my African brothers and sisters!!!

While our government is not perfect it's blatantly false to attribute Zimbabwe's problems to us.

Mugabe's policies are what is causing the catastrophe in Zimbabwe.

*He illegally took farms belonging to white farmers and gave them to his underlings who had no knowledge of farming under a blatantly racist policy that crippled the argricultural sector.

*Despite the mega inflation in hundreds of millions of percent he continues to print money that is worth less than toilet paper.

*His regime has no transparency and kidnaps, harasses, and imprisons political enemies with trumped up charges.

Fact is our sanctions are only targetted current at a handleful of high ranking government officials in Zimbabwe and does not affect the citizens of Zimbabwe at all.

Mugabwe has got to go if Zimbabwe is to make any sort of recovery.

This is not so. Economic sanctions unlike a military strike cannot be selective. Zimbabwe's medium of exchange has been cut off completely. There's no way you can trade normally if international clearing banks wont honour your transactions. Zim cannot purchase medicine or machinery because no country will accept zim dollars as payments and the sanctions prevents them from transacting in any other currency.

If you want to know the real causet of Zimbabwe's downfall read up on the 'Lancaster Agreement'.

Zims problems began when Britain reneged on an agreement to FUND the redistribution of land as agreed by Maggie Thatcher and Mugabe as one of the conditions of Zim's independence from Britain in 1981. Tony Blair for some reason when he got in power decided that British taxpayers money should not be used to compensate white Zimbabwean farmers (to which i agree however an agreement is an agreement)and suspended the payments for the land redistribution program. Blair also felt that the 'willing buyer, willing seller' aspect of the program was not being upheld.

Mugabe feeling betrayed then began confiscating lands and redistributing them.

It's a stretch to say that Mugabe 'policies' is the root of the problems when Britain and the US should be held accountable.
