Mass Grave of Irish Railroad Builders Uncovered in Pennsylvania

Bones found in Chester County, Pa., are believed to be from some 57 Irish immigrants who came to the United States to work on railroads in 1832.

Was rough-going for our people, for sure. Sad story. Grandfather worked in a factory he called "The Pit" outside of Boston. But the job was enough to allow him to buy a house and support a family of 8--that's more than an immigrant today can hope for. Not quite a land of opportunity.

These are the sorts of heroes on whose backs, and souls, our country was built. I don't doubt that many of them were murdered, as the story suggests.
