pain on left side for years

Its been a few months now since I last wrote....
I have extremely mild pains in my ribcage now. I haven't changed my diet, with the exception of drinking fruits and vegetables (i got a juicer, and was told it should help get the vitamins and minerals i need for everyday). But I literally just started that a few days ago.

I now have a new set of symptoms - some dizziness, or light-headiness. My vertigo is all off at random moments. My feet are always freezing cold, and if I sit "indian style" or on my knees they instantly go numb.
I am also having sharp chest pain under my left breast.... it will be really quick/sharp and seems to repeat a few times.... not at the same pace as my pulse.
My side pain maybe comes once a day now, and very mild. But it was mild for awhile about a year ago, and out of no where got extremely bad....

No doctors have been able to help. And I even saw a chiropractor in hopes that its a back/neck issue.

I just got this strange pain on the left side of my torso, under my left breast and just above the stomach. It almost feels like a rib is broken or bent, and poking into my lung. When I breath or yawn, it hurts like hell. I felt a VERY sharp pain on friday, when I bet down to pick up something. I thought I might have pulled a muscle. On saturday when I woke up, the pain on my left side started and was constant. I waited for it to pass, but it didn't. Now (sunday) it's gotten worse... but it feels a little better when I'm sitting. I also have some kind of infection or virus in my JAW (I had this once last year, but it disappeared after a couple weeks) that hurt pretty bad the 1st week, but the 2nd week it's gotten better. Now it's still there, a little bit, on the right side, just under my temple where the lower and upper mandibles connect.

This may be unrelated, but I also have a pain on the dead-center of my chest, that was intermittent, and I've had it for like 6 years. It usually comes and goes, if I'm excersizing, doing weights, or anything that works the chest-muscles. When I tilt my head back or forward, I can feel it tightening and stinging. It used to "pop" (like when you crack your fingers) and then dissapear and feel normal. But since friday it's gotten pretty constant and it won't "pop" anymore. I feel the pain there anytime I tilt my head back/forward, or perform any kind of rowing-motion with my arms, or butterfly motion.

I don't know what it could be, but as I'm not dead yet... I doubt it's heart-attack. I don't have any other symptoms such as sweatiness or shallow breath or a tightness or heaviness in my chest.

I have the same form of pain, however after researching into this type of chest pain, i found it to have symptoms very closely related to Angina; therefore it may be a type of this heart problem.

Probably best to mention it next time you're in the doctors trying to find a solution to this problem.
I can relate with doctors not finding me credible because i'm only 16 myself, however although Angina is not an imminent threat to your health, it can lead to very serious heart conditions if not treated.

Hope this helps :)

I have had the same pain. It is on my left side just behind my rib cage. Always in the same area. It is a sharp shooting pain. Only lasting 5-10 seconds at a time. Some days not pain at all. And other days I feel it all day. Weird! My doctor did not seem concerned. I told him, maybe it was my spleen. He said no and took a chest x-ray. Told me it must be muscle spasms. Has anyone ever had that? I don't think that is what it is. He have my something for inflamation. I can't tell if it helps, because the pain is not there all the time. Is it like that for anyone else?

Overview of Splenic Flexure Syndrome
overview

Pain in the left upper abdomen may in some cases result from distension or spasm of the splenic flexure of the colon. The splenic flexure is that portion of the colon or large intestine that changes direction from horizontal to vertical in the left upper abdomen, adjacent to the spleen. Passage of stool or gas may relieve the abdominal discomfort. Food occasionally may aggravate pain and may be associated with diarrhea or constipation. Changes in the size and shape of the stool may occur. When these episodes occur, they tend to come in clusters lasting weeks or months at a time.

Causes of Splenic Flexure Syndrome
causes

Splenic flexure syndrome is a very common cause of left upper abdominal pain. It is thought to be due to distension or spasm of the splenic flexure of the colon.

Signs and Symptoms of Splenic Flexure Syndrome
signs and symptoms

Left upper abdominal pain is the most common symptom. The pain may be relieved by passing stool or gas. Occasionally, eating may aggravate the pain. The pain may only last minutes, but when it recurs it does so many times for weeks or months on end. Diarrhea, constipation and changes in the size and shape of the stool may occur.

I have been having this pain on and off in my left ribs for years. I know it's nerve pain from stress. My Dad had it for most part of his life.

For those of you who do no object to alternative medicine, try to see a traditional Chinese herbal doctor. Everytime I have this pain, I take an herbal medicine called "Shu Gan San" for a few days. It has been working like a charm. This medicine even works for menstrual cramp. It's herb so it does not have much side effect.

You can also try to take Vitamin B-complex. Or take B-2, B-6, and B-12.

Good luck to all of you.

Mate I've had the same thing for about 6 years. The doc's over here in Australia told me it's just stress. Just annoys the hell out of me though
Hi There, I had this problem for about age 30. I am now 61. Two things to check out: Low thyroid. Causes stress to heart if unmedicated or overmedicated. Sleep apnoea =high blood pressure while sleeping. This can be checked by a heart specialist, by having a monitor attached while you are asleep over a period of days. Or you can go to a sleep clinic. One other thing: watch intake of cheese, eggs as last meal at night. Better to eat large meal in the daytime, this seems to ease stress on heart at night.

i have had the same symptoms and one doc. told me it is costacondritis..swelling in joint between rib cage...I was prescribed to take strong dose of anti=inflamitory meds..i just take ibupophen...may be what is causing your pain as well...i am not 100% convinced this is what it is though..sometimes doc.s just give a diag. just bec. they don't really know themselves...I thank God for healing and prayer that is working where docs fail....

Yep, costochondritis is the bullshit diagnosis they give when they either don't care or don't know, but don't think it's serious. If you've been dealing with this for a while and inflammation isn't much of a factor, you can rest assured that any doctor who spits this out is a hack and full of shit.

Hi there, I have been suffering aggravated chest pains on the left side for about 3 months. It can sometimes be mild and sometimes quite painful. I have had a standard ECG and a 24 hour ECG which were both normal. I am unable to sleep on my left side because when i wake up it feels like something has been laying on me all night. I have recently noticed lately that i can feel my heart beating hard against my chest especially when i am exercising. My GP does not take me seriously because i am only 22. Do you think i could have anything seriuosly wrong with me. I am very worried. can anyone relate to these symptoms.
I do have the exact problem I have also had ecg, and 24 hr monitor and a stress test on the tread mill all my test have come back clean too. It is very scary, I have hypothryroid which I know can aggravate it but my levels are normal and I am still having the same problem. I wish I felt sure it was nothing but continue to worry.

Doctors are full of shit. I have the same pain for about 3 year. My shit doctor did all kind of shit exam from x-ray to regular scan and bone scan EKG etc you name it and all the result show normal because the p---s won’t do the right exam. For me pain is pain and this entire doctor should go back to school and learn the old way and stop using patient as skinning pig. So I’m stress out of this bull shit answer from these entire Doctor. In my opinion I thin this pain is a pinched nerve but this f. doctor don't want to find anything to keep getting the copy I told my Doctor I want a mri with contract to check this nerve out but He keep send me to do the wrong f. exam. Because the f. doctor and insurance partner ship.

ok its been 3 months since my last post, i no longer have the pain in my left side right below my left breast, i have went to the chiropracter once a week since then and the first 3 weeks the pain slowly went away after the 4th week i was pain free and have stayed that way so far, to discribe my pain a little more it felt like a small stabbing pain at the bottom of my left rib cage and would get worse when i layed down but felt good if i was movin around. i would sometimes have the sharp pain threw my chest also. i had had ekg, catscan, mri, and ultra sounds done but everything came back normal. the reason the tests came back normal was the drs. were looking in the front where the pain was when i went to the chiropracter he looked at my spine and noticed the the 3rd and 4th rib on my left side had slipped out of place due to the curvature of my spine alltho not protruding visably from the back and not having pain in the back the ribs in the front were pushing inwards slightly and were putting pressure on my abdominal wall so as i laid i would feel the pain and when i stood it took the pressure off the abdominal wall allowing the pain to subside. I would suggest that even if you dont go to chiropracter go to spinal dr. and have your spine checked even a slight change in the spacings of your vertabret will allow your ribs to move out. it has helped me i hope it helps you.

I'm so relieved that there are others out there that seem to have this funny left chest pain. Mine comes and goes, its not extremely painful, but as others described, kind of annoying. Makes me feel like the left side of my heart is dead. I'm going to get the EKG, etc just to ease my concerns, but glad to know i'm not the only one.

well i have been reading these post for about a year now.thats how long i have been having my pain.it started out dead center of my chest and then moved to the left, nipple high to lower ribs inline with the nipple.I got mad at this continuing pain (seldom severe, only twice did it bother me enough to stop in my tracks)the other day and made a fist and hit myself in the ribs at this location a couple of times and after words i have a funny feeling which i cannot reproduce on the right side of my chest.it would be hard to describe the funny feeling but its like when your foot falls asleep an is waking back up and gets all tingly but this last about the same length of time for your foot to recover from no blood flow.So since the right side does not do the same thing is really concerns me.and i am not hitting myself hard enough to hurt me and only recently have i done this and is not the cause of my pain since this has been going on for a year or little over.I know i cannot be diagnosed over the internet i guess i am just venting.i just hope it is not cancer but that would explain the continiuos ongoing pain and why one side would react different than the other.density would be different if there is cancerous tissue.I would much rather have heart problems than cancer.41 years old

forgot to mention the pain is deep in the chest,it is definitly not mucsle or bone that is causeing the pain or the funny feeling.the pain is not aggravated by activity and bothers me most at night not during the day i dont notice it as much unless it flares up.this sucks
