Most Young, Black Females Are Not Getting HPV Vaccine

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 4 (HealthDay News) -- The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which helps cut a sexual active female's risk of cervical cancer, is viewed positively by its target audience in the black community, even though few are actually getting the shots, a new survey says.

No. I would not get it or encourage any young female to get it yet. It has not been out on the market long enough and who knows what side effects there are of taking this over a long period of time. What folks need to do is encourage young females to keep their legs closed and encourage young males not to pressure girls for sex and to remain a virgin until they marry someone. That would stop the spread of disease about 95%.

I agree 200%! I would not get this vaccine nor encourage ANY black female to get it.

They also want to give it to males.

I work within the health care industry and I throughly recommend the vaccine as it is there to protect against Cervical cancer which can be a silent killer

I would encourage my daughter to get the shot. However I notice in the thread title it states "young". I thought the girl must be a virgin in order for the vaccine to work. Young does not naturaly imply that all of the black girls or any young girl for that matter are virgins. Heck but what do I know......

It seems to me like every time they come up with a cure for something the side effects of the cure will do more to you then the disease. lol lol

Can I ask why you would encourage her to inject something in her body that you know nothing about? The shot is given in three stages up until the age of 26. You do not have to be a virgin.

I'm up in the air about vaccinating my children. I had the vaccinations, and Im fine... but with the amount of children being diagnosed with autism on the rise, I am very wary. I live in a state that mandates children being given vaccinations for school. Some states are easier to protest than others...california being one of them. My worst fear is with the amount of illegal immigrants in the area I live...you just never know what could happen. I want to protect my kids the best way I can, but in this instance I find myself in a catch 22.

I think that parents need to be doing a better job of instilling morals and values in their children. That way the risk of developing HPV is greatly diminished. No STD's, No HPV, No need for this vaccine.

Right just like the hepatitis shot is given in three stages, however that is not the point here. The point is that you must be a virgin for the initial shot.

Now if you are telling me that a woman who is already having sex prior to her first shot, and is still medicaly considered a potential candidate for the vaccine.........then I will concede.

I know that it is the hip thing among blacks to fear medicine, and go herbal. But with this vaccine, there is nothing to fear.

I don't care what anyone says. I am not putting any of that poison in my or childrens bloodstream.

Yes there is all of a sudden a high influx of autism and children acting out due to behavior problems more than ever before. When I was growing up as a child we didnt get all those vaccines and grew up healthy as a horse.
