Hello,
I did cataract operations in both my eyes.
First one before 6 weeks.
Second one before 3 weeks.
Original numbers were minus 5-6 + cylinder.
New are 1-2, still with cylinder.
The first eye has flashes/flickers, especially when I read. Second one is good, no problem.
Since two weeks I have a new eyeglasses, no help.
Of course I consulted the surgeon and also other doctors, they do not have an answer.
Did someone had this experience.
If so, what is the solution.
Thank you.

I have experienced maybe something like this after my surgery a week and a half ago. It's like a small flicker at the outer corner of the eye, not central. I see/feel it more when I'm tired and under fluorescent lighting. It's getting to be less of a problem with time, and I suspect it might be related to swelling of the cornea after the surgery.

Hi, im 23 and had cataract surgery on my first eye 3 weeks ago. I am also experiencing this flickering sensation at the other edge of my eye. i was giving multifocal lenses and i'm also experiencing mild headaches that start behind my eye when reading. I also see very large halos around lights especially at night. is anyone else experiencing these problems? will they decrease with time?

I had cataract surgery 2 yrs. ago. I have had a constant flickering in my left eye since the day after surgery. It is when I am in fluorescent lighting. It has never went away. Does anyone else have this.

I had cataract surgery a year ago; left eye first, followed by right. Almost instantly I experienced a strobe-like flashing in my left eye, that appears to come from the outer corner. My opthamologist can find no reason for it. My IOLs are the same make and model. Am 72 years of age and still working full time. The flashing drives me crazy from time to time. In reading the comments, it appears that no one has come up with an answer. There has got to be one somewhere?

I'm now one year after the cataract surgery of both my eyes.
I am glad to inform that the flashes/flikering I reported on here, before approximately one year totally dissappeared.
I an very pleased now with the results.
Probably, time is the best doctor for some of us.
Thank you.

My flickering is from the right corner of my right eye. It only happens when I have my reading glasses on. My Dr. also said that everything looks great. I think it's gotten better and hopefully it'll stop completely in time. I hope yours will stop also. It's so annoying isn't it?

I had my right cataract taken off 2 weeks ago. I also have the flickering. and the doctor said that it's the lense floating around and once it's stabilized, it should go away. Not sure how long it will take. I had a toric lense for stigmitism. I am having surgery in my left eye on Monday. Although I'm nervous about the flickering in the left eye, my vision is so wonderful that I'll just have to chance it. With all the horrible illnesses out there, I can live with this if I have to. I also have tinnitus in my left ear for about 4 years. It took me a while to learn to IGNORE it. Good luck with all of us and our flickering....

When I read about multifocal lenses, it mentioned the halo around lighting at night. I expected that and the Dr. said it will go away. I did not know about the flickering. I only had the surgery two days ago. I sure hope it goes away.

The flickering is definitely getting better, but it's been 7 months since surgery. Last exam showed that I have cells growing behind the new lenses! If they continue, the Dr. will have to remove them in December. Has anyone else had these? Linda

Catarct of both my eyes were removed just over six months ago. Done four days apart. After surgery I had a string of minor complications like burning sensation,'particle feeling' liht sensitivity, tearing etc., But I am still having this flickering sensation and light headedness. Made several visits to my Dr. Prescribed cortisone drops for two months initially, stopped and I am again on 'Flarex' on a reducing dose regimen.
It was heartening to note from some of you that this 'flicker' has disappeard over time. I hope I can have some hope of total recovery in time. Nandana

I had both cataracts removed in the last 4 months, the last eye done 2 months ago. I have the floaters, particular in the right eye and also flashing lights similar to meteors falling, mainly happens at night. Had my checkup a week ago, everything seems healed, the optometriest does not know what is causing this. If this keeps up, I will insist on a referral to someone else.

It's been almost 9 months since the surgery in my right eye. I still have a small amount of flickering when I am reading at night, but it seems to be getting better. I am wondering why you are going to an optometrist instead of the surgeon that did your surgery. I have only dealt with the ophthalmologist that did mine. Hope you get some answers! Linda

The flicker sounds pretty common then; that's all I wanted to find out. My op was only 4 days ago. Cheers all.

I had cataract surgery almost three months ago. My vision is now improved. However, since the day after surgery, I have been having extremely annoying flickering of light similar to a strobe light when there is a light source mainly to the side of my eye. The doctor said that everything looks good inside the eye and that these symptoms usually go away. I know we are all different, but for those who have experienced these symptoms, I would like to know how long it took to actually subside.

I just had my surgery two days ago, everything went well I had no pain and can see very well out of my eye that had surgery, however i too am experiencing the strobe light flicker out of the corner of my eye mainly when there is bright light to the side of my eye i had surgery on. I called the dr office and spoke to a nurse who said it could be a detached retina! But after reading all the comments I dont think so, any thoughts to this?
