Biofuels can be a carbon-neutral energy source, but the overall process of producing them is far from carbon neutral, given the substantial amount of fossil fuels expended in growing, harvesting, processing and distributing them.

Biofuels are not ONE thing and the carbon balance differs a lot between them. Microalgae are the most energy efficient and carbon neutral. Corn ethanol is probably the least. But some, like Jatropha can be very neutral as well, needing only the energy to transport the seeds. Different agricultural choices affect how much energy is used by the farmer.

But it is certainly possible to be carbon neutral if the fuel for the farm is ALSO a biofuel.

Here’s and idea the dirtling could increase production of hot air creating a new carbon neutral biofuel. We could call it useless babblegas.
