I haven't read this whole thread, but anyone who takes OTC supplements should watch the episode of Dying to be young on Dr. G. The episode is about a woman in Orlando who took about 40 supplements a day, including DHEA.
I just watched it last night, so it should roll around again soon.

Ohhh Kas NOWHERE did I say it was about "attitude."

I said it's about not taking drugs that might kill you later on.

It was tough to go through menopause without hormone replacement but it's what's NORMAL. I have posted a number of ways to deal with one of the biggest problems of menopause -- the hot flashes. I recommended waterbeds because of their tremendous temperature control. I have also talked about cooling scarves. Buy a BUNCH of them, put them in baggies with a little water (you don't want to over-saturate them) and keep them in the refrigerator.

Don't take hormones no matter how they were made, because you risk feeding a hormone-sensitive breast tumor. 90% of women who develop breast cancer have absolutely NO family history of breast cancer.

I NEVER EVER said it was about attitude, and i think anyone who says that depression is about attitude (and has any kind of clout with the media, such as Tom Cruise), should be forced to endure depression themselves without help and see what their attitude might be like. I absolutely DESPISE people who talk about overcoming ANYTHING by "attitude" because it demeans the person's difficulties and puts the blame on them for their situation. it's a horrible thing to do ....

companies are most definitely making money on products found in nature. They are spending small fortunes going through the undeveloped and more traditional parts of such places as South America and India looking for natural remedies that work.

You think they can't patent them? All they have to do is make the SMALLEST change -- which can include compressing it into a tablet and putting a coating on it -- and they most definitely CAN get a patent. You don't know anything accurate about patent law, and I suspect you don't even have accurate information about "natural" supplements.

I'm going to state this as clearly as I can: there may well be people posting on these blogs who are secretly working for pharmaceutical companies, but I'm not one of them.

HOWEVER, what I have seen -- over and over and OVER -- is people with supplements to sell coming in here and posting without identifying THEIR conflicts of interest. Maybe they rationalize this by believing that pharmaceutical companies are also doing it, but that's an immoral stance. It isn't OK to murder someone because you think someone else got away with it. It isn't OK to shoplift because you think other people do it too, and it isn't OK to come into a support forum with a secret agenda to try to promote things you sell (sometimes it's not so secret because they include their websites, but sometimes they try to fool us.)

It's been my experience -- and I'm old enough to have some -- that often when people make an accusation toward others, they think they see it because they are also doing it.

Deanne I was so happy to read that someone from Ocala has found a doctor for bhrt, can you please let me know who you are seeing. At this time I am on Prometrium 100mg and Vivelle which is a estradiol transdermal patch that delivers 0.025mg/day. The doctor I saw said this is Bio Identical hormones and that bhrt is just a marketing term and is expensive. I am truly hoping to find a doctor
who is willing to work with me in this area.

No, Jen. It's important to skip ANY kind of hormone replacement therapy if at all possible.

How to do that? Talk to the older women in your life who HAD to go through menopause without HRT.

Replacing those hormones goes against the very nature of human biology, no matter how you do it. And it WILL raise your risk of breast cancer -- even the stuff you're selling, Jen.

Do not be fooled, women: 90% of those who get breast cancer have NO history of breast cancer but an alarming number have a history of HRT. It won't be long before we have solid research on the "bio-identicals." THINK about that word "IDENTICAL." If your heart flashes don't care do you think a breast tumor does???

I'm not opposed natural alternatives (I'm not against pharmaceuticals either). I'm against women getting or aggravating breast cancer.

I recently heard a commentary on the issue of "Estrogen" dominance from "Teresa Heiz Kerry on Larry King" -- She was diagnosed with Breast cancer and blamed her "Estrogen" dominate state for this event. The implication is that Estrogen is "bad". This is NOT the case! "IMBALANCE" of hormones is the problem. There is a gene called the P53 gene. The P53 gene blocks formation of cancer. This gene is found at the highest levels during mid cycle when "progesterone" is at its peak. Only natural progesterone molecules kill cancer cells and stimulate the P53 gene. So when women enter their 40 and early 50's they are still producing lots of estrogen but have insufficient progesterone. Progesterone increases the P53 gene and kills cancer cells!
Estrogen has many health benefits from favorable changes in muscle tone, wrinkles, hair texture, libido,reduce incidence of Alzheimers, reduce incidence in stroke and heart attack, reduce incidence in vision loss, and prevention of osteoporosis. Bottom line.

I have ordered prescription drugs (without a prescription) online from http://inhousegeneric.info about two years ago, and was pleased with the speed and quality of service.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my medication. The meds is expensive, but there is a generic version available overseas.
I love the idea of taking responsibility for my own health (or lack of health) and skipping the bureaucracy... to say nothing of having to drive to the doctor, wait in line, yet again, to get a prescription refilled.

I would suggest starting with your PCP or GYN. If that doesn't work, talk to your friends and co-workers and see what they've heard and who they would recommend - look for the common denominator! A good option is to look for a compounding pharmacy and call or go see them, they can advise who some very knowledgeable practitioners in your area would be. You can also google BHRT or bio-identical hormones in your area to see what comes up. There are also professional organizations that can provide doctor listings. A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine) or ACAM (American College for Advancement in Medicine) have provider directories on their sites. If you are in the Boca area, you should be able to find a plethora of help! If not, let me know...

Not true, folks.

Some breast cancers are fed by estrogen and/or progesterone, and one of the IMPORTANT treatments for this type of cancer is hormone suppression.

That has serious side effects, but not as serious as dying from cancer.

PLEASE talk to your doctor about this should you develop breast cancer.

Yeah, that's GREAT advice. Prescribe for yourself and then buy the drugs illegally. Skip the middleman. What did that stupid doctor learn in medical school anyway? How hard can it be?

That's right. It's about living vs. dying. Your post was brilliant, and I HOPE people are smart enough to take what their oncologist says over what some stranger online with something to sell said.

Isn't it bizarre that any time you follow your doctor's advice you get accused of working for a pharmaceutical company?

The typical woman has 60% Estrogen/40% Testosterone. As we age,the level of estrogen drops;thus,we begin to develop male characteristics. I don't want to be a male;regardless of how society treats us. There must be something else at work promoting breast cancer? I believe that "environmental pollution" is more of a culprit than HRT. Society can put a man on the moon;but,can't find preventive therapy and a cure for Breast Cancer.
