Early 2011 diagnosis of stage four carcinoma in the sinus. Surgery followed by 7 weeks of radiation and two rounds of cisplatin at 1 hour infusion times. Have lost 85% of hearing and have tinnitus 24/7. Low energy levels. Sounds like my recovering from the cure isn't nearly as bad as many who have posted here. Thank you each and every one who posted for confirming that it's not just my imagination to have these after symptoms. Bless each of you and please, get well soon.

OMGosh!! I have not even read this entire post but it is starting to sound so VERY VERY familiar!!!! On chemo I had heart attach, stroke, allergic reaction, poly neuropathy, fibromyalsia, chonic pain....who knows what the heck ever...the doctors make it seem as though its ALLL in my head...I have had therapist referrals to the psych hospitol.....OMGosh i am glad and horribly disappointed that other are having ot experience what i experience...I am SORRY and feel badly ...somehow i thought only i have the side effects that i do and part of me felt better thinking that...so its elating and sad at the same time. I am a VERY strong person but my WHOLE life has changed and i feel it only gets minimally better before some new and odd thing comes up...I am going to go back and read this article in full but PLEASE stay strong and take it one day at a time and I guess BELEIVE that there is an end to it...a solution...i keep telling myself that the chemo will eventually work its way out of every cell and then I will get the old me back...i have to beleive that...for people who didnt have an a-typical reaction to chemo i think they have no idea what all of this feels like...I hope youhave support, a great support system..I dont really have a strong supporty system...things have gotten somewhat better....i dont studder when i talk anymore, a symptom of the strokes and TIA's and seizures ....they said it was stress, i was grateful when i had a seizure the very first appointment wiht my neuro oncologist...otherwise they wouldnt ahve beleived me...by the way they later tried to commit me b/c of how i explained my pain, lesson learned on that one...never say hhow bad it is otherwise its misinterpreted and cna lead to a commitment...anyway good luck...

Sorry it took so long to come back...kept forgetting how I got here...for real.
Im 45, feel like 60, two time survivor 1998, 2005,two years since lumpectomy 2/5, last treatment 11/1/05, arimidex, tamoxifen,= nightmare since!
somehow I replied to another board and got lots of replies...none here. chemo brain, possible stroke 9/06, neuropathy 5/06, tetanus shot reaction (wrong one) connective tissue disease, auto immune disorder, now they're seeing "sjogrens syndrome, dry mouth/low salivary function, dry eyes, I had to have tubes put in my eyes during chemo - "chronic" tearing" got teased how I was supposedly in the 5% group for side effects - I had em all, thrush, joint, sleepy, never really threw up but two times.
cHEMO-BRAIN BIG-TIME, Neuropathy. Here's the big one.....I know it sounds crazy...trust me I wish I had never heard it. Brain Spect from a suspected Mini-stroke, showed depression(basically compression/deterioration) in 3 parts of my brain indicating signs of early onset of Alzheimers and demetia. I told everyone I hope I forgetALL THIS./ DOCTOR ORDERS A PET SCAN TO CONFIRM... iNSURANCE DENIED LAST WEEK....i CALLED THE DOCTOR...he's head of Neurology at our HIgh Hospital, he said my hand are tied....after he wrote me a script for the test that said brain metastesis, he should of gave me a scipt for a sedative!

I am new here, just found this site today... I think like ALL things we all ahve differnt beleifs and diffrent experiencs..some of us do NOT do well on chemo. Some people are far more sensitive to chemo. When you are told to inform your family you become afraid and you follow what the doctors say, you are in a different mind space. To say fear is HUGE factor is an understatement and when a doctor is standing there saying here is what we need to do then you actually do it. I stopped chemo, i felt my body deteriorating...then we found out i was having heart attacks, strokes, allergic reactions....THEN the doctors told me I was "non-compliant" for wanting to stop the chemo. We ALL have differnet reactions to these drugs...I beleieve it COULD kill someone...I met people who had ot have organ transplants b/c the chemo destroyed thiers....so..I have a tendency to believe death is possible...and I know what i have to live wiht now...it destroyed nerves and other things...changed my quality of life but i am alive...it came back since i had to stop chemo...but everyone has to make the choices they have to make and we have to support and respect their decisions...you have to walk in a persons shoes to know where they are coming from, you cant really deny THEIR reality...it IS their truth...its not a courtroom we dont have to convience 12 people...we all have widly varying experiences...by the way I had stageIII, grade 3, reoccuring breast cancer...oncologist said missed an inflamatory bc diagnoses by only one criteria (?)....you make decision on where you are at the time...in hind site i might have done MANY things different...but that is "by gones"....

It's simply not true that only chemo, surgery and radiation are approved in this country. Don't look now, but your bias is showing.
I'd have to know a lot more about your relatives who died. Once cancer has spread, the chemo can be much harsher, but since we know the person is going to die it justifies greater risk. Not discounting the gravity of your loss, but if I were in stage IV cancer I might try all sorts of risky things.
Right now, in 2011, it is EXTREMELY rare for anyone to die from chemotherapy used for Stage I, II or III cancer.
And yes, I know that some chemos are themselves carcinogenic. Oncologists tell their patients those things.
Chemo was a cakewalk for me. I did what I had to do to survive, and here I am nearly five years later and almost certainly cancer free.
I chose proven treatments and I'd do it again.

Guys.. Honestly you might hate me for what I will tell you but it's 2012.. your Government is lying to you, they don't want CURES real cures but a system of legal lethal drugs to fight disease.. its a treatment that focuses on the actual cancer the tumor, not the OVERALL HEALTH of your body, in other words. DON'T TREAT THE SYMPTOM, treat the CAUSE of the Cancer, Tumor.. Its been 100 years and only Chemo, Radiation and Surgery are the treatments of today.. this is sad and completely terrible if you ask me.. my brother had leukemia.. my father passed away at 47 from a heart attack.. I want to drive your attention now towards the NUTRITION & FOOD YOU EAT.. you see, when we eat RAW CLEAN ORGANIC VEGETARIAN FOOD, our bodies act completely different.. The SAD Diet (standard American diet) is pretty much a CHRONIC DEGENERATIVE DISEASE FEEDING DIET, where after 10 to 20 years if not less the person will develop some type of Degenerative Disease for the rest of their lives.. so WHAT DOES AMERICA EAT?; ULTRA PROCESSED FOOD, WITH MORE THAN 500 CHEMICALS, ADITIVES, PRESERVATIVES..these include heave metals, hfcs, aluminums, mercury, artificial vitamins and synthetic minetals, pesticides, herbacides, artificial nutrients for the plant, orthophosphates, phosphates, sulphates, HIDROGENATED OILS "which is TRANS FAT, in another name" also GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM'S which make the plant grow as a pesticide inside its own DNA... we are playing God and making Franken food since the 80's all the other chemicals since WW2... another thing is Radiated food, Cooked, Ultra pasteurized milk and dairy all of this is pure poison, not to talk about how they grow Americas meat.. PLEASE YOUTUBE: "MEAT YOUR MEAT"..

Now let me tell you about ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE! please visit www.cancertutor.com and learn about your disease, My favorite ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE THERAPY IS THE "GERSON THERAPY" Which was Developed by Doctor Max Gerson in the 1920's, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Gerson don't believe that it doesn't work, the US GOVERNMENT deleted all of Gerson's files when he went against the Congress and explained his therapy and how he had cured all the 50 people that hospitals and doctors had sent to die back in the early 1900's.. PLEASE I AND WRITTING THIS FOR THE SMART PEOPLE OF THIS GREAT NATION who know about THE SECRET AGENDA OF THEIR MASTERS, UNDERSTAND WE ARE THE PEOPLE AND WE DESERVE TRUTH!!! Life its not MONEY ONLY! and even if you want truth and CONVENTIONAL DRUGS heres DCA made in Canada CHEMO THAT DOESN'T KILL GOOD HEALTH CELLS ONLY BAD NEGATIVE CANCER CELLS! and the US government is completely against it.. THINK PEOPLE!! HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD GO OUT OF WORK IF THE CANCER INDUSTRY COLLAPSES?????? ;] see what I mean? HOW MANY DRUG COMPANIES WOULD GO BANKRUPT FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO SELL DRUGS IF PEOPLE WHERE HEALTHY AND LIVED AWESOME LONG LIVES WITHOUT THE NEED OF DRUGS AND WORRY OF DISEASE??? exactly.. now heres the gerson INFO pick your SIDE, Red Pill or Blue Pill.. red leaves you in the world you now.. the lies.. pain, disease, drugs, and soon death.. the other will open your Third Eye, you will understand the world from a different point of view and will cry when you realize that life is the most precious gift ever created by our Creator! you will see ANOTHER DAY, HAVE QUALITY OF LIFE & HEALTH, YOU WILL THINK CLEARLY, BE WITH THE BEST HEALTH, ENERGY OF YOUR LIFE, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THE UNIVERSE AND HARMONIES WITH NATURE ONCE AGAIN IN A MODERN WORLD..YOU WILL SEEK TRUTH EVERYWHERE AND JOIN MILLIONS WHO ARE CHANGING OUR SYSTEM FOR THE FUTURE FOR THE BETTER! I CHALLENGE YOU AS I CHALLENGED MYSELF 7 YEARS AGO! I will never see myself sick again much less those that I love so much. I TOLD YOU THE TRUTH, AND ONLY THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.. Research, before you judge & don't believe mainstream sources as they are all part of the ignorance if not the agenda..

Manuel, thanks for coming here to sell your goods. All of us who have had breast cancer are so grateful. That's what we came here for -- for you to tell us we were all fools.

Thanks again. You make a tidy profit, I presume? So you're as corrupt as the groups you're railing against -- maybe more so. We don't have pharma companies and oncologists coming in here and reaching for our wallets the way you just did.

Finished chemo for rare type of Lymphoma, did great, but it has been 2 years and five months and I feel fatigued and unwell most of the time. I have reflux now, ringing in my ears, lost two jobs in the last six months probably because of the insurance rates. I like others here worry that it may be the cancer. Called my oncologist last week for blood test because of itching which can be a symptom, now I am wondering if it is worry and hoping it is. I am thankful to be alive but I would love to be doing more and enjoying the rest of my life. I am 54 and I could jog before the cancer, now my knees feel like they would break if I tried to run or jog. I walk and exercise when I can. The chemo fog (chemo brain) has improved I think. Hope you all feel better soon.

Thank you Gail.
Got the results from the blood test and everything looks good. I was really happy to hear that. Today I am trying to clean my house, slowly, the fatigue is debilitating. I'm on unemployment and wondering how I am going to hold down a job. I know I have to keep pushing myself.

Blessings and prayers to all those who are out there battling not only the disease but the after effects of the treatment.

I think it's all in your perspective. If you come out on the other side OK and get to live the rest of your life, it's all worth it. It's a war where oddly, most win. Not everyone, but most. So for me it was worth every battle. Even if I hadn't done well, I would have fought the battle.

No, the thing that's worse than cancer would be dying from it. To survive it right now, unfortunately means treatment that isn't all lollipops and roses. But on the other side of treatment, life is all the sweeter.

life is all the sweeter on the other side of treatment? really? i'm glad that's your experience.
personally if i had my time over again i would have opted for a short life instead of having treatment. yes i'm alive but i feel as if i have longevity over quality. it's about time treatment was brought out of the dark ages and into something more modern and less barbaric.(i know this is the chemo thread but i'm referring not just to chemo but to surgery as well.)

I have to agree. Even though I had Stage 1 breast cancer, early detected they said that they wanted me to do chemo and radiation to give me another 10 years before possible recurrence. Give me 10 years? The chemo has aged me 10 years leaving me with damaged veins in both arms and newly acquired arthritis. And I haven't even started the anti estrogen med which may increase arthritis pain. Oh yeah, chemo brain which will hopefully dissipate. Yes, I am whining. You go through treatment thinking, "Okay, I will come back after the good fight." My experience with chemo is that it has destroyed who I was.

I think they downplay the effects of chemo on the brain because they want us to have it. But as it happened, I took pediatric neuropsychology taught by a medical school. Children with leukemia are surviving in ever greater numbers, but the damage done to their little brains founded a whole new subspecialty of neuropsychology. Adult brains aren't AS vulnerable ... but they're vulnerable.

How many people like me, with an advanced degree, would embrace chemo if I were told of the possibility that it could lower my IQ or interfere with my life in other ways? Well, it has. I'm still glad to be alive, but ladies, I don't think our doctors tell us the whole story. Not about chemo, and not about AI's.
