"n breast cancer, as I understand it, the essential debate is over the ability of improved screening techniques to discover DCIS or ductal carcinoma in situ. These cells, in the lining of the milk ducts, are usually described as pre-cancerous or non-invasive, yet if they are not treated, there is a possibility that they may develop into invasive cancer. But – and here is the nub of the problem – there is also the possibility that they may not. "
Here's the rub. IF IT DOES grow, it can IMMEDIATELY spread, often to the bones. Then you have stage IV, eventually terminal, breast cancer. It can happen VERY, VERY EARLY. They cannot now predict which ones will grow like this and which ones will not.
Maybe the woman in the article was willing to play this kind of Russian roulette, but I was not.
