Just get over it.....as a breast cancer survivor of 18 years thankfully to undergoing a mestectomy and 6 months of chemo I opted for no reconstruction....two husbands later I still stand strong in my choice...which I feel is so much better then the alternative....

I think if there are that women who feel that their breast-conserving surgery did not go well cosmetically, then maybe they have been misled by their doctors. I have spoken out against "PC Thinking" regarding breast cancer before, and I suspect this is an example. I was pressured by two different doctors to have a lumpectomy but I knew that breast would never look the same, and it wasn't worth it to me to go through x-ray therapy just to have a misshapen breast. I also declined reconstruction and was also pressured to have that.

Like the first poster I am perfectly content to have had a mastectomy. To me that's small potatoes -- because I'm alive and in good health.

Feel I made the correct decision to have the bilateral mastectomy, especially now, with all these new treatments coming out. I feel comfortable with myself, no reconstruction, no less a woman, and so glad to be almost 5 years away from the surgery, and the 33 days of radiation. Never want that again on this body, but if it helped, it's at least over. Good luck to all making these big decisions!!! Not easy, but remember, know all about your treatments, and you are in charge of your OWN body.

I had a partial mastectomy 4 years ago, and yes
one breast is somewhat smaller and differently shaped, but I am wondering who all these people
are who say it affects their lives greatly. All
breast cancer surviviors I know are just happy to
be alive.

Lisa is right. I could see how a minority of women might be distressed, but I don't even think it's rational to think the two breasts will be identical after breast surgery.

And, I don't see where it matters. I wouldn't give a plug nickel for a man (or female partner) this bothered. Anyone who is bothered because my body is no longer perfectly symmetrical is free to look elsewhere.:)

I've been on Effexor from http://goo.gl/TRCx1y only one week but am cautiously very optimistic. Prior to this I was on citalopram but still feeling very low and sleeping poorly, feeling like I needed to be in bed 12-16 hours a day. Now I am waking naturally after only 8 hours sleep and finding it much easier to concentrate at work. I can hardly believe it is working so quickly but I feel so much better. I've had no side effects.
