Perhaps the gains in the reconstructive part makes the decison a lot easier for women. I would imagine having normal looking replacement's would help making this decision.

I opted for the double. I never wanted to wonder where was it hiding at. Furthermore, if you think the replacements are so normal looking, you are wrong. Nothing will ever replace my real breasts. It is also a long process and painful. The only reason for this choice is because you don't want it to happen again.

Maybe people need to get to the cause instead of cutting the body up. But you can't get to the cause with conventional medicine. Cancer is a money machine for conventional medicine- what a shame.
Gee maybe if you had told me I wouldn't have had to go through hell. Hope you never need treatment. Thanks to this money machine, I am alive and well 5 1/2 years later.

Girls, Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. By His stripes you are healed. Fear is not of the Lord. Rebuke Satan in the Mighty name of Jesus. Cancer is only a name. Jesus is the only names above all names. Seek HIM FIRST AND ALL THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU LIFE. He healed me of breast cancer in 2001. No chemo, meds, surgery, or rads. When one trust man we cross out our faith in JESUS. READ ACTS. 19: 19, Rev.21. Jesus heals to give GOD THE Glory

Perfect love casts out all fear. Trust in Jesus ,Girls. He healed me of breast cancer in 2001. I opted for no chemo, rads, surgery, or meds. Jesus heals 100%,free, without pain or a scar. By His stripes we are healed per the Word of God. God can not lie. Or he would not be God. Not one did Jesus not heal who believed in Him. When diagnosed and have fears, give it to him as I did. He will give you the peace to make the right decision if you trust in Him. He gave me the peace beyond understanding .Praise God. Jesus heals to show God's Glory. Seek Him first and all things will be added to your life. Read Acts. 19: 19 (They threw away their sorcery books)and also read Revelation 21 The Greek word for sorcery is pharmacy, it is a known fact. The Bible is written to anoint, lay hands, and pray for that person. That is how far we are from God's Word today. The Lord revealed to me if there were a pill to heal you he would have only needed one. He gave one,His Son Jesus. He spoke further. "We take 1, 2, 3, pills the side effects are our body rejecting the drugs due to defiling God's temple. "The Holy Spirit lives in a believer of Jesus. We all have an appointed time to die and the Lord is not going to take you until your appointed time to die. So if one is right with the Lord, you are a winner either way. How do we not know that when one passes who had great faith but was not healed, it was not their appointed time to die, but they had been healed before their death? Many people will sell their souls for the things of this world. Faith without works is dead. Go to: Educate yourself and click on the varied sites. The Word is written that God's people perish for the lack of knowledge. Talk with The Great Physician, Jesus. He will speak to you via the Spirit if you seek Him.One must repent first and believeth in JESUS to be saved ,and to have the Joy of the Lord. Rebuke Satan in the Mighty name of Jesus when have doubts. He must flee.Bless God America

To writer Fink, The wages of sin is death. I was out of God's will. I professed to be a Christian but never read my Bible, witnessed for salvation, or had a relationship with Jesus. God gives His people a sound mind, body, and soul. I fully gave my life to the Lord. I fully trusted in Him and he healed me to show God's Glory. It rains on the just and the unjust. When one is out of God's wiil the protective hand goes off of you per the Word of God. I was also unequally yoked in my marriage. What does light have with darkness? I Was not serving the Lord but my flesh. Worldly desires. Must walk in the Spirit not of the flesh to be saved. Cancer and other diseases I truly believe appear when ones's body, mind, and spirit is not at homeostasis. The Joy of the Lord and a clear conscience prevents corticosteroids from kicking out in your body that attacks organs especially the heart. The Lord gives peace beyond understanding if one abides in His Word.

My mom died of cancer.

Although I don't have cancer, I'd have a double mastectomy right now, if I were able to afford it, just to avoid suffering the way she did.

Anybody know where I can get it done for free? O.S.U. med school? I'm offering.

When I was diagnosed in 2009 I went to the Ohio Health's Second Opinion clinic - great decision. My diagnosis was confirmed and I was able to see, not only my recent mammography films, but prior films. I should mention I was bad and waited 5 yrs. between mammograms -- I had two mohs surgeries for skin cancer so I got caught up in other issues. My "healthy" breast showed the same microcalcifications that my cancerous breast had 5 yrs prior. So a double mastectomy seemed the only avenue to take. I was doing self exams and thought I was feeling the fibroid cyst I had forever. But was told that at some point I must have confused the tumor and the fibroid so even doing monthly self exams is not enough. Be well and live strong.

Check your Bible history, Luke was a physician. God gave man the ability to help care for us. It is not a lack of faith to seek medical help. It is like the story where God sends 3 people to save a drowning man in the flood and he says No, I'm waiting for God. When he drowned and went to heaven God told him I sent 3 people to help you. Do not discount that God sends others to help you.

Why not just cut out the cancer? If you had cancer on a kidney I doubt one would say cut out both kidneys and just do dialisys.

Just as a curious observation I wonder what the cancer rate is for natural breasts vs ones with salt bags or silicone?

HI MY NAME IS ANNETTE JOHNSON
I HAVE HAD 21 SURGERY DUE TO CANCER. YES BOTH BREAST
My memoir is a blatantly honest story of survival. I have suffered and survived cancer, drug addiction, homelessness, mental and physical abuse, and spiritual alienation. My life spiraled out of control for decades until I finally accepted God’s will and turned my life over to Him.
HIDING IN PRIVATE PLACES is a 65,000-word memoir describing my painful but triumphant journey of recovery from breast and liver cancer, drug addiction, and severe abuse. My story begins in the small town of Joliet, Illinois, where I was raised in a fundamentalist Pentecostal family. Married off to a man I hardly knew at age sixteen, I rebelled from my family and the conservative traditions of the church. When I was just 20 years old I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. Then, hoping to find freedom and a life of my own, I left my husband and ran away to Chicago where I ended up living on the streets for three years. While homeless I sank into the depths of alcoholism, drug addiction, physical abuse and despair. In later years I was violently raped and mentally tortured by my second husband until he abandoned me and my baby daughter. Though I continued to struggle for years with cancer and my own personal demons, I ultimately handed my life over to God and watched in awe as He washed away my pain and healed my recurring cancer. My story describes the many lessons I have learned by coming out of hiding and putting my life in God’s hands.
While this is my first book, I have been writing for many years. I wrote my own column,“Annette’s Words of Hope” for The Christian Messenger magazine. I am a gospel singer and songwriter and I’ve recorded and released eight CDs. I am also an ordained minister and have founded several nonprofit organizations to help women, children, and the elderly.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ! AUTOR OF HIDING IN PRAIVATE PLACES. AND MINISTER ANNETTE JOHNSON P.S.THIS CAN BE ORDER AT WINEPRESS PUBLISHING. OR AMAZON.COM OR BARNS AND NOBLE. OR MY WEBSITE. goinghomewithannette.com . available june 28th

In my case I had 3 tumors in my left breast and cancer in 10 lymph nodes so the cancer could only be cut out through mastectomy and since the other breast was showing the same signs there was no choice. I also opted not to go ahead with reconstruction.

I can completely understand how a woman, especially a younger woman, would make this choice. The cancer can be harder to stop when the woman is younger, and 26 is VERY young.

To live with that hanging over your head for another 60 - 70 years? Awful.

When you have breast cancer, you have that choice. Lung cancer often develops in the second lung, but we can't have both lungs out. While breasts are beautiful and useful, they aren't central to life support.

The woman is also in a unique position, because after plastic surgery, her two breasts are likely to match. They probably won't look exactly like her old ones, but she won't have to different-looking breasts.

Thank you for speaking up, Toadly. I have known two Christian Scientists. They both died of cancer because they would not accept God's gift to us of the ability to devise ways to treat illnesses. If you're religious, God set this world in motion. That makes every medical treatment a gift from God.
