Is there a class action lawsuit against these estrogen blockers?! I started on Arimidea and was in so much pain that I was switched to Aromasin. Well, it the same GD thing. These pills have ruined my sex life and I can no longer do simple things like yoga, stretching, or even housecleaning because of the severe bone and joint pain. I feel suicidal sometimes because NO DOCTOR will listen to me! They won't do anything for me except refer me to physical therapy. Which causes me excrutiating pain. I wake up at night with cramps and shooting pains down both of my arms starting from my rotator cuffs. I can't go on my walks anymore because of severe bone pain in my knees. I used to be limber and physically fit. No doctor told me the side effects of these pills. Now I am overweight, and I feel like an old woman. I'm so very angry. I have read about other woman young and old who are just as pissed off! I feel that if I were a man having these pains the doctors would be jumping through hoops to try and find a better way. Thank you for letting me vent!

I had breast cancer Aug 2007. I just started on Arimidex May of 2008. I have been having hot flashes like crazy. All hours. I have 3 personal hand held "misting fans" that was helping me. I changed to new Oncologist and I asked for something for the Hot Flashes. He offered Effexor (anti-depressant) or Neurontin. I happen to take Both of them Already. I am on the highest Effexor already. I am on the Lowest of Neurontin (300mg). I was told they go up to 1200mgs. So I am taking 2 300mg Neurontin now. I think on the first day I had only 1 Hot Flash!!!! And I have found that my Thumb, Big Two and my pinky finger is having unexplained Pain. Maybe this is from the Arimidex. My doctor said We Do Have to EAT Really Well and Healthy. And I've been slacking trying to lose weight. So I am starting to eat more Vegetables and more protein now. Maybe next month I can give better news. Hope this helps someone with HOT FLASHES.

I was on arimidex for 2 years and could no longer stand the leg and arm cramps. It was like watching your belly shift while pregnant when the cramps would start, the muscles moving around. suddenly I could not walk, felt as though I was wading against water, my right arm became weak and could not hold a pencil. Had MRI and saw possible stroke.Never had high blood presure. Now in P.T. Why has this been held back as a very life treatening side effect?

Lillian, it hasn't. It is known as a possible side effect.

It's about the risks vs. benefits. There is no guarantee that you will have no side effects from any medication. One baby aspirin a day gave my husband a bleeding ulcer that had him in the hospital for five days. It's rare, but not unheard of, and it happened to him.

I am terribly sorry for what happened to you but they're not hiding that risk.

I was on Premarin at the time of the dx of breast Ca for which I had lumpectomy (early stage; margins clear; nodes clean) and radiation. Of course Premarin was stopped immediately (I am 66 years old) I was put on Arimidex and suffer many hot flashes throughout day and night. Interestingly, just prior to a hot flash, I have a burning in the breast which lasts just a few seconds. Has anyone else experienced this?

Addendum: Is there an explanation for the above?

Lee I haven't had that exact experience but those AI's cause all sorts of side effects. The hot flashes are quite impressive, aren't they ...

I too am on Arimidex. First 3 months , great after the foggy highway of Tamoxifin, Then it became like trying to walk through thick mud neck deep. and during summer with the heat, a real ordeal to stay sane. Leg and foot pain as well. I remembered my specialist told me to take Caltrate Plus with Arimidex. I have started that and YES great relief. The ankle pain and what looks like fluid on the the ankle area is still annoying but tolerable. Prior to getting up in the morning I do simple ankle exercises so that i can walk without feeling wooden like on stilts. This stiffness goes after a few minutes. My latest challenge (I'm beginning to not like that word) is sleeping. I can only attribute insomnia to Arimidex as my life is pretty OK generally. Yesterday I bought Melatonin in tablet form from the chemist and bingo i had the best nights sleep for months. Love reading the inspiring stories on this site and empathize with your journeys.
did you go on with melatonin? and did'nt you have side effects from
it with arimidex?

Does anyone have something good to day about arimidex? Is it worth taking, ie quality of life?

I wrote recently, and was feeing good but yesterday 9/16,I got another urinary tract infection. One in June 3 days after beginning this drug. It think I will stop. I had never had a urinary tract infection EVER, before arimedix, so I think it is time to stop.
Becky Very uncomfortable with blood in urine and fever.
I have also experienced continuous urinary tract infections since taking Arimedix. I have been on so many antibiotics, I fear, if I get any other kind of infection or another UTI they will quit working for me. Have any other women had this issue?

Have other women had urinary tract infections while taking Arimidex? I have had so many, and been on antibiotics so much, I am afraid they will stop helping me.

Patti, I urge you to give it a try. A lot of people CAN tolerate Arimidex and it really does save lives. You can stop it at any time if you can't tolerate it.

I had UTI's on Arimidex. I have never heard of it causing strokes, however, and I researched it pretty aggressively.

I have been taking Arimidex for 9 months and have all the side effects described above. However I also feel my immune system is compromised as I have had a number of upper respiritory infections and now a gastric infection. I seem to have something every month. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice regarding a really good immune booster? I do take garlic oil, a multi vitamin and vitB12. I also take Clonidine foe the hot flushes. Not perfect but better I think.

Aha! I just stopped in to read if anyone else has experienced leg cramps and, sure enough, you have. I wondered if Anastrozole might get the credit. This is ROUGH!

I'll call my doc and see if he has any suggestions. Hope you're all doing well. Let's hope 2011 treats us well - Brenda

For the leg cramps try try 2 mag 64 64 tablets , have your dr write out a script for this. You can get this at Walmart under their $9.9 program, along with a vitamin e everyday. this has helped me because I suffered from severe leg cramps before arimidex. good luck

I am having very bad mood swings and I'm always ready to bite my husbands head off What can I do for this other than stopping the pills Have been taking them since oct 2010. The hot flashes I can deal with although everyone is freezing in the house (not me)
