I am now on 100mg at bedtime cause these things make me pass out. I've noticed that I am not really hungry anymore and I have lost a couple pounds. I've only been on it for about 3 weeks. But anyway. For the people who are loosing alot of weight, are you exercising alot or are you just not eating very much. Cause I had twins 2 years ago and am still trying to loose about 100lbs. So any advice would be great!!!

I have been taking topamax for 3 months now and have lost 13 lbs I was on 100 mg my doctor just upped me to 200 mg this week. I am hoping the pounds will start falling off now. I am 5ft and weigh 174 that is just not healthy and I have two kids so and tried everything for some reason just keep maintaining the same weight. I had never been over weight before having children so I really hope this can work for me. As for side effects the only thing I have had is soda!! It taste GROSS. Like sucking on a copper penny. I do however drink a lot of water now.

I took topamax for about 3years and actually became anorexic from it . I actually had to have a feeding tube surgically placed and anchored to the inside of my stomach that remained with me for about 4 weeks . Tons of fun , at night i had to hang bags of stinky food from a feeding pump and hook myself all up and listen to the pump run all night while it fed me .... So yea .. you can lose weight on this drug be careful I WAS ONLY ON 50 MG DAILY !!!

I've been taking Topamax (100 mg in the morning)for about eight months now. I began taking it to counteract the weight-gain effect of Seroquel. When I began taking Topamax, my appetite decreased, and I lost about 10 pounds. Since then, my weight has leveled, and I haven't lost anymore. Consequently, my psychiatrist increased the dose to 150 mg. a day, and I hope that will help me shed more pounds. I also need to start working out. But I will say, I believe the way Topamax works for weight loss is that it decreases the appetite. At least that's how it has worked for me.

I have been on topomax for about 3 months know for grand mal seizures. It has stopped me from having seizures, but I have lost over 40 punds at the same time. I am down to 135 pounds, which my doctors say is fine, but I still get worried at the quick weight loss. But the pills work great, except for the loss of appetite, so topomax is a good med. , but just be mindful of the side effects.

I have been on 25mg of Topamax for one week now, for migraines as well. I have lost 8 pounds. I have no appitite, what I can eat I can only eat a very little of, and soda is out of the question, it tastes flat to me.

i am just about to start on topamax 25mgs ,does anyone know why it is taken before bed? also is it taken 12 hours apart as 1 at bed time then another in the morning.. is it taken on empty stomach ,, i have suffered from migranes for years, while in costa rica the man at pharmacy told me to try topamax ,, and told me it would also help me loose weight, the problem is i lost the directions for taking the meds. i think it was 25mg at bed time for 1 week ,then ad 25 next week, for 1 month then up to 50mgs bed time /50 in the am, does this sound right to you? i am reading several people complain about not sleeping , why is that?? usually anti migrane meds have a calming effect. i am super sensitive to drugs,, after reading about the side effects i am wondering if i should start with 10mg,, what other side effects does anyone know about?
thanks
Hi. You are supposed to take it before bed because it makes you sleepy.( you really don't HAVE to, but it makes sense to. And you can start at 25mg, 10 mg is too low. I'm sensiyive to meds too i feel everything.. even get paranoid and i started taking mine at 25mg, felt fine.. then you can gradually go up to 50mg. then 100mg etc.

i've been on topamax for months for severe migraines-maybe it's becausse i'm on such a low dosage (25mg-twice a day), but I haven't lost any weight or noticed any difference in that area. The good news is I don't have the migraines anymore.:)
It does help then???? I am getting ready to start it for migraines and I have heard of some side effects and was wondering if it is worth it. I am willing to try anything to get rid of these headaches!!!!

I've been reading all the different posts on this site and am getting VERY nervous about this medication. I just took my first Topomax tonight & now I'm reading about hair loss, extreme weight loss and memory and cognitive problems.I'm wondering why I've been put on this. It is for migrains, but I came to the neurologist because I'm having memory issues and difficulty with my thought process. Are the negative side effects ALWAYS happening??? Please let me know.

I'm taking topamax for my migrains, to 25mgs twice daily, so two in the AM, two in the PM. I havent lost any weight, it makes my face tingle and my feet are starting to tingle like they are asleep, and I can't think as fast as I used to. Also occassionally I see these black lines in my Peripheral vision, they go away but they bother the hell out of me and I've actually walked into the side of my door because they threw me off so bad. So I just made an appointment with my nuero for a few days.. I've been on the topamax for almost 2 months now and the side affects were 0 and now they just keep getting worse.=(! The only upside is that it's the only medication that's taken my migrains away!

I've been on the stuff (50 mg twice daily) for 4 months. I've lost 20 pounds and I've had no negative side-effects. my daily migraines disappeared after the first dose. I still have a great appetite and practically live off of cheese and ice cream!

So I, personally have tried topamax a total of 3 times. and have lost a little bit of weight. nothing substantial. I'm also a type one diabetic. which i think may have something to do with it. My cousin, on the other hand, took it, 100 mg at night, 25 mg in the am. and went from 280 to 190 in about 10-12 months. without really trying. Now, here's the thing. He drank regular soda like it was his job. Topamax makes soda taste gross, so he couldnt drink it, so it stopped that immediately, on top of curbing his appetite. Topamax also stops you from craving carbs and keeps your blood sugar from spiking so much. That i can vouge for because when im on it and i test my sugar it is definitely lower, and i require less insulin than when i dont take it. I just dont lose weight from it, and i either learn how to eat past the appetite suppressant effect, or it has a different effect due to the fact that i inject a synthetic insulin. I still find for weight loss adderall (fda approved for adnd) or phentermine (fda approved for short term obesity treatment) works the best.

What about you're memory? Have you noticed any problems with that. So many people I read about said that they struggled with word re-call and memory.

My Dr. started me on this stuff for migraines. I started off taking 50mg last week. So far I have felt SO off and spaced out. My fingers and toes get numb. I feel like I'm walking around high all day. I am an accountant and I cannot forget things, but I keep messing up on my work. My boss understands, but it's really upsetting me. As far as weight loss goes... I would LOVE to lose 10-15 lbs I've been going to the gym every day for the past month and have not lost any weight. Sad... So maybe this stuff will help, but over the past week I have had the same appetite. I am supposed to up my dosage 25mg every week... I'm kinda nervous to. I have just gotten used to this dosage. However, I do enjoy the fact that I sleep so soundly! I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore and it's wonderful!
I did come very close to having a migraine today. I started to see the aura, I took a different pill and was fine.

I've been on and off topamax for about five years, for mood and to counteract weight gain from other meds. The first time I took it I lost about thirty lbs. Since then in only two years I've gained sixty from seroquil. The next two times the dr. Put me back on topamax I lost nothing? Does the weight loss stop after the first time?? As for memory, yes you lose it. My doctor said it makes you act "dumb" it also kills your night vision, and soda tastes horrible! But, it's worth it if I'd lose this seroquil weight!

I was bulimic and had other OCD conditions. For three yrs I lived in hell. Even though I was bulimic, I still carried an extra 40 lbs.
I was put on Topamax and I lost 50 lbs...and the bulimia is gone.
I was then put on a new med which causes weight gain. This freaked me out so I have gradually gotten my self off that drug and renewed Topamax. My self esteem is more important than anything else. If I can't find a MD to write me a script I'll but it on line. I have only take.50 so I do not need a lot. For me, it's been a drug that might have saved my life,
